... someone? I know this sounds crazy - and maybe I am, for all I know - but what year is it, and where am I?

It's okay, it's not your fault. Don't worry, I'm not mad at you.

... okay, that's creepy. If it's any consolation, I'll forever be upset by men in yellow suits. One held me hostage and threatened to beat me. I had to listen to him beat his slave. It was terrible. Thank God I freed him. ... the slave, not Wolfswinkel.

Oh! Well, do you have any family or friends? Maybe they'll show up too!

If it makes you feel any better, you did a lot of good by freeing the slave. Maybe, if you see a guy in a yellow suit, you should try to concentrate on the good that came out of it? I don't know, I'm not a psychologist, but maybe it'll help.

I have Eileen. She was my neighbor during the cultist issue, and was supposed to be one of his victims. It didn't quite take and she survived, and then we worked together to stop the guy. We moved in together after that. Not sure whether she'll show up here or not. Part of me hopes she does, but another part of me kinda hopes she doesn't. After everything that happened, she deserves a normal life.

The slave - his name was Malingo - was amazing. So brave and sweet. I might jump a bit whenever I see a yellow suit, but I feel a lot better knowing Malingo's back at home in the Abarat, not with him.

She could have a normal life here? I'm sure she misses you too.

That's a pretty good attitude to have about it.

I don't know. I mean, we're friends, but it's sort of...complicated.

He and I had some more adventures after that. He helped me get out of the Twenty-Fifth Hour without going completely mad. I guess he sort of saved me too.

Aren't all relationships complicated?

Eileen and I saved each other a lot during the whole fiasco. If it wasn't so terrifying it would've been funny.

Well, yeah, I guess they are. Maybe I should've said really complicated instead. Mostly my fault, really.

It's good to have a friend like that. I think that's how John Mischief and his brothers were for me, then Malingo after I lost John.

Well, you're a better man than my father, I'm sure, and if he managed to keep my mother, I'm sure you can make a way with Eileen.

Yeah. I'm pretty sure I'd have gone insane without her. She was the first one that survived and that I was able to help. All the others... Well, I think I've witnessed enough death for one lifetime, let's just say that.

Might help if I could work up the nerve to tell her I have feelings for her.

Well, maybe while you're missing her, you can figure out what you want to say and write it down?

That's a really good idea. Thanks! I think I'll do that.

Contrary to what my teachers thought, I'm pretty smart. You're welcome.

I don't think teachers get conventional wisdom. They get textbook wisdom, which pretty much means they don't get real wisdom too much. I'm sure there are exceptions, but I haven't met any yet.

Yeah, well, Mrs. Schwartz used to call me stupid to my face. Some teachers are worse than others, I guess.

And this lady didn't get fired? Wow. She must be pretty good at groveling for her job.

They probably questioned her a bit after I walked out of her class and never went back. Granted, I was in another world, but still. It probably didn't look very good for her.

Serves her right, really. Well, I'm glad you were able to get out of there. A teacher like that is definitely not conducive to learning.

She'd choke on her tongue if she found out I was a Belgian princess.

Haha, it would almost be worth her showing up for that, wouldn't it?

Absolutely! Then I'd show her how I can do magic, and I think she'd have a heart attack.

The ritual sort, or the D&D "here giant monster, have a big exploding ball of fire in your face" kind?

I learned it in the Abarat. All I can do so far is summon a glyph, but it means I won't ever be stuck in one place ever again. I don't even know if it'll work here, but it should, because people in the Hereafter imported Abaratian books all the time. I wish I could study more. Maybe a copy of the Lumeric's Six will show up.

I'm not sure if magic from other worlds will really work here, but you could always give it a shot to find out. There are portkey things all over that make travel pretty easy, so you may not really need too much help with that. Maybe there are other magic users here that can help?

Maybe! I figure if we're all from different worlds, we're sort of like a grab bag of cultures and such as it is. So it's worth a try.
