I will confess that there are occasions when I miss certain... details. It is only to be expected, when ones mind is accustomed to strolling with the highest and most intricate truths of the very Universe. Nevertheless... even I, prone as I am to fits of inspired oblivion, am surprised and dismayed to find that I seem to have overlooked the moment it transpired that I was a saint worthy of being scooped up by the very Hand of Divinity and set down...

...well.

I'm afraid I somehow missed the Biblical passage that describes either Heaven or Hell as anything quite so...

...

...so...

What's going on?

Well, well. Someone has an ego.

Well, well. Fortunately I am not a man who easily takes offence, else I might have to challenge you to a duel over honor or demand you make reparations for bruising a man with no present defences.

I say again, what's going on? Or are you merely a heckler?

Oh, Lord, I just fell over laughing.

You've not been drawn into Heaven, you silly little mortal. This is Earth. It's simply a different Earth than the one you're used to.

Clearly; I hear no hosannahs nor screams of the more-than-usually-damned. On the other hand, it appears that the majority of the people on the street have actually bathed recently. I'd have thought such a revolutionary idea would be a sign of the coming Apocalypse.

No, that just means you're not in France.

The more you speak, the less you make sense. Indeed, I can see that this is not France. I reitterate my request for an explanation for what is rather than continuing statements of what is not.

As a famous poet once wrote,
"Everything we see or seem, is but a dream within a dream."

[link] should be very informative to your current question. As to your others, I'll be very glad to answer them. I'm new to this, but I've experience with the very strange happening quite often.

It was not the very hand of God what brought you to this place. It was but a vortex. Something like an isolated tornado or cyclone which picked you up and landed you safely in this reality, instead of the one which you lived previously. If you wish to carry on your belief that it was God which sent it, that's up to you, but I've a feeling that God had nothing to do with it. Nor Satan, for that matter, She's just as much a victim of circumstance as we are.

In any case, welcome to the new reality. My name is Bill.

That is a splendid quote, although I doubt its author can have been so famous, if I cannot name him.

You and your documents speak blasphemy with a sweet tongue. Ah, well -- it is likely I have been living in sin since the day I was born; it cannot do me much harm to continue as I have been.

My name is Pierre Gringoire. Or... something far less suiting, according to the card in my pocket. It is, at least, a slight help that whatever angels or demons make this magic should see fit to give me an address, at least, but I shall be keeping my own name, thank you.

I do not suppose you know if there is a local Court, monsieur?

Aye, he was actually rather famous but from how you speak, not until far after your time.
Blaspheming is my favorite sin next to greed.

There may be - but it wouldn't be much the same as to where you're from. What do you wish to accomplish in finding a Court, mate?

Well frankly, now that you mention it, not all that much. A certain familiarity of lostness. No matter -- I made my way just as well before, I can do so again.
