I'll admit it, I'm not sure what to do for this... Valentine's Day. I'd like to do something romantic for Bethany, but... I've not exactly had much experience with that concept.

Any help would be appreciated. I'd like to not mess this up.

It's a pointless commercial holiday. Don't bother.

I might as well attempt something, no matter how commercialised it is.

It's some sort of holiday intended to show romantic feelings. Or so it seems to me - never had anything like it in my world.

What are your dates usually like then? Probably go for something different. You go out to dinner quite a bit, maybe instead you should take her to a concert.

Or the zoo. Zoos are fun.

Take her somewhere interesting. Travel isn't really a huge problem in this world.

The portkeys were always a little too magical for me. That's an old habit dying hard... but maybe I could give it a go.

Don't get me wrong, I'm getting married on it, and love is the best thing in all of the universe.

Just seems weird to celebrate it with chocolates and dying flowers.

Take her on a holiday! Somewhere exciting and interesting and somewhere she's never been before and likely a touch strange where you don't know the language but can still have a brilliant time but hopefully not arrested.

There is the traditional way of flowers, with candy. With a red and pink color theme. But I think to truly impress someone.. perhaps take her out to eat somewhere with good food? With wine and candles. Maybe incense too.

Alternatively, there's always the beach. Perhaps right at the time during sunset, when the sky is a bit reddish-orange before nightfall. Or if travel isn't a problem, maybe somewhere like the Grand Canyon, Mt. Fuji, Colorado mountain country, Greece, Italy, or even Paris.

Get her something she really needs. My wife is a workaholic. I'm getting her a whole weekend at a spa where she can relax and not get pissed off because I made a robotic neon dinosaur. Again.

Something memorable! Take her someplace you've never been before, then she'll get all mental and start calling it 'your place' and you've got basically every Valentine's Day in the bag from here on out.

Might ask my brother though, since he's the one who actually has a sweetheart.

Take her to a cinema. If the movie's a startling or frightening one, you'll find she gets quite cuddly and such. I vaguely remember that working quite well once upon a time.

Listen, trust me. She's just going to want to spend time with you. Bring her out to something she likes and everything.

If you're ready to take a bigger step like asking her to move in or even get married, that might work too. Dunno where you guys are at. But really, she's just going to want to be with you.

I agree with everyone so far, as strange as that sounds.

Go somewhere and do something you don't usually go/do, get her something practical, something ridiculous and something pretty (if she's the something pretty sort, that is). It's the experience of the day as much as the actual gifts, really.

Also, if you aren't already doing something sweet for her every day (or every other day at the very least) you're doing it wrong.

Most of the time, it's enough that we care. I know Penelope had male companions in the past who treated her as something to take for granted. Whatever you do, just make sure she knows she is appreciated, and you should be quite all right.

Whatever it is, make sure it matches how you feel about her. If you just started dating, don't pawn the house on jewelry. My wife and I are going on ... hell, four years? And she just had twins. So she's getting jewelry and an at-home spa day, and I'm going to clean for her.

If you just started dating, dinner's always good. Oh, and dancing. Chicks love dancing for some weird reason.
