Merry? MERRY?! Where are we, Merry?!

I haven't heard of a Merry here. I'm sorry. But I can answer any questions you might have to the best of my ability...?

First and foremost, the last thing I remember was that I was in the Shire having a good chat with my cousin Merry over some Longbottom leaf and ale after a good day's work. There seems to be a lack of greenery here. I don't think I'm in the Shire anymore.

No, no, I haven't heard of a Shire. Depending on where you've landed, I suppose it's just easiest to say you're on planet earth, though probably very far in the future if the lack of greenery is shocking.

For instance, the year is 2011, and I'm currently in Paris, France. Can you see any signs where you are? They should tell you where you ended up!

The Shire is where us hobbit-folk live! Surely you've heard of us! And Planet Earth? You mean Middle Earth, right? That's where I'm from-- we're all from!

2011? That makes no sense! Everything here looks so odd. People all in fancy clothing everywhere. And it's wet. Really damp and wet here. Never heard of a Paris, France before. Let's see... This paper in my pocket says I'm from England. Where is that?!

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

how are you with fourth walling?

Overwhelming, I know. England isn't that far from France, where I'm at. You may have arrived in London, the capital. And, yes, England can be very wet and damp. It quite frequently rains, there's overcast weather quite a bit...hmm.

This is a different dimension, to put it simply, but to put it very complex as well. Have you ever heard of dimensions?

My poor manners! My name is Phoebe, and what's your name, Master Hobbit?

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

Erm... Fourth walling? This is embarrassing. You mean OOC right here on subject right?

London? Haven't heard of that either. But another paper in my pocket says that yes, I'm in London. Some kind of paper that says 'rail'--? I'm confused.

Dimensions? What are those? Maybe I should have paid more attention to Gandalf's stories instead of dozing off.

My name's Pippin! You can call me Pip. Or Pippin. Your choice. Pleased to meet you, Miss Phoebe!

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

ack oh god, yeah, ooc here, let me make an ooc note in the comment!

I'm not sure about rail, though it could mean a form of public transportation.

Oh, well...that's a bit complicated. It's...worlds within the same world, though with alternate times, places, things like that...

Oh dear, you don't have to call me "Miss!" Pippin, it's a pleasure to meet you.

[ooc. aggh i get so confused with the subject line being seen sometimes! i meant, how are you with 4th walling, like phoebe knowing he's from a book or whatever. like, is that okay? if you'd rather him not be fourth-walled, she could just think it/know it and not say, but it's all up to you! \o]

Erm... What? Public transportation? Like caravans or ponies? Or like wagons? We have those where I'm from!

Again, I don't think I quite follow. So you're saying that this is all happening at the same time something else is happening somewhere else?

But it's only proper to call someone "Miss"! But if you insist.

OOC: Haha! Me too! I don't mind at all! I think it'll make things easier for the poor hobbit. He's easily confused after all.

Something like that, only with things made of metal and electricity.

Mother, this is very hard to explain. A dimension...it's a level of reality, you could say. For instance, you have always lived in a place called Middle Earth. Here, we only know it as planet earth. However, if you transport across this dimension, this plane of reality I have always known, you can end up in Middle Earth, your plane of reality. I think I'm only confusing you more, aren't I? I'm so sorry, dear, even scientists of the highest caliber can't always explain it, and I'm not scientist myself. Truthfully, I'm a goddess, though one of knowledge.

That's a lot to take in. But I think I kind of understand what you mean, Miss Goddess-Phoebe. You're saying that I was transported from Middle Earth, my world, into this other world. Greaaaat.

Now how do I get back? Can I travel using this electricity thing?

Ah, you see.

You can't, dear one. Whatever gust of Zephyr brought us here is not keen on returning us at all. Fortunately for me, this world is quite similar to the one I was born into and have lived through since Creation, but it is very different for others.

I'm so sorry, Pippin.

You... can't be serious! What about the Shire? What about all the hobbits back home? And I thought all the adventuring was all over and done with.

Well, I think it's quite safe to assume that everyone still there is quite fine, unless there's some impending doom focusing on the Shire. There's the idea that time is, in essence, still while we have gone away—that, perhaps, when we return it will be like we'd dreamed, no matter how long we've been here.

And then there is the real possibility that we won't even remember it. Honestly, dear, I wouldn't worry about it. From what I have seen in my eons of life, you have no need to be so distressed.

Well, the impending doom part is over. Frodo destroyed the ring so it's all over now! But still, I hoped that I could have just spent the rest of my days smoking my Longbottom leaf and drinking ale... It would be nice to come back though to find it unharmed.

Perhaps you can find some Longbottom leaf here! And don't worry—there's plenty of alcohol to go around in this place, you'll find. You have a whole new world of ale and whatnot to try out here!

Pip, were we actually just picked up by a giant torando thing, or have I smoked too much of this Longbottom leaf for one afternoon?

I think we just were. But then again, you have to admit, the leaf was pretty good. You think we might be hallucinating?

It was good leaf, but we don't usually hallucinate when we're smoking. Magic of some kind? Though even Gandalf didn't just appear and disappear in giant gusts of winds. ...or if he could do that, I want an explanation for why we hiked over Middle-earth the hard way...

...you haven't knocked something over so it hit me on the head like that one time with the jar, have you?

Oh no, Merry. What if we're going to have to face another adventure here as well? Weird things happen when strange things happen. Like remember that time Bilbo disappeared at that party with the ring? That started to odd things. What if we're the ones that disappeared this time? You think this is the world Frodo disappeared to when he put the ring on?

And no, I didn't! That wasn't my fault! The jar fell on you by accident! I didn't hit anything!

Don't be daft, Pip. All Frodo ever talked about seeing when he was wearing the ring was a giant burning eye. And the ring's gone, anyway, and good riddance to it. But I think you're right about one thing. We are having another adventure. That or this is really strange leaf.

You hit the door, which hit the shelf, which wobbled so that the jar fell off and landed on my head. Entirely your fault.

Maybe they have more of this leaf. We can smoke some again and maybe it'll send us back!

I--! Err--! Ugh... Well, if you weren't sitting there chatting it up with that Bolger lass it wouldn't have happened!

Sounds like a good plan to me! Pass the leaf over and let's have another go.

Who could resist a chance to chat with Estella? I refuse to apologize for spending time talking to her, she's a charming lass and no mistake. You were just jealous.

Merry! I can't find any more leaf in my pockets! They're filled with all sorts of papers and things I don't recognize!

Jealous? Me? Never!

Funny, so are mine. ...England? Where's that? And why does this thing have my name on it? I'm sure I've never seen it before. And is this actually a picture of me? How'd they get it so detailed?

Of course you are. I'm taller than you, better looking than you, and older than you as well.

They actually managed to get my good looks right, whoever drew this picture.

What are you talking about? I'm clearly the taller one. And I do get more chatting done with women because I'm the more handsome, funny one.

You don't have any good looks, Pip.

And no, I'm afraid you're wrong there. I'm a good centimeter taller than you. And significantly more charming.
