This had better be the right world or I'm going to hunt down the vortex and bitchslap it so hard.

...you can actually do that? To the vortex, I mean.

Probably not. But wishful thinking is a great thing.

Oh.

Because I was wondering if I could talk something over with it. If it's, you know, sentient or something.

I don't really think that it has any rhyme or reason to it. But it does seem to like bringing in groups of people at the same time from the same general place.

But if it IS sentient, I'm pretty sure there's a few of us who have some very big, nasty words for it.

Actually! Since you seem to know a hell of a lot more about this than I do- what happens to the people we replace?

I'm a little worried about him.

I'm not sure. Some people theorize that they replace us, or that they simply cease to exist. Why, did your life particularly suck or something?

Kind of. A lot. Yes. To say the least.

Um, is there... do you know anyone with, say, a rocket handy?

Actually, I do, but uh.

Why?

[info]sayapple

Because if he's replaced me, he's sort of...

...orbiting the moon right now.

Just, you know, slightly?

...

Well, you shouldn't have gone mad with power then, maybe.

And it's probably a different reality's moon anyway, so yeah.

It wasn't totally my fault! I was just completely unprepared and then there was this horrible itch and I just had to make it go away and then there were these little whispering voices in my circuitry from Her chassis and this huge, HUGE flood of positive feedback from trying to kill her and it was just complete madness! No wonder She's a maniac!

I mean, I would take it all back if I could, to be honest. And this Dennis guy didn't have anything to do with it.

...and it wouldn't hurt to check, would it? Just in case?

Whoa, no need to justify yourself to me, there. I've done worse shit and don't feel bad about it. It's not like you killed those guys in stasis or anything. They just sort of died.

Anyway, no, it'd probably hurt a lot, since when you said 'rocket', I assumed you meant as in a weapon, and not a space shuttle.

Humans don't just up and die, do they?

Do they?

Oh god, they do, don't they! This place is even more horrifying than I'd first thought!

Well, not usually, it usually takes disease or murder or suicide or some natural disaster or something for someone to just randomly die. I'm guessing that the main power to the stasis chambers got cut off during the first time the lady went on her crazed spree of trying to destroy the main AI, but then the auxiliary power cut off because Aperture isn't technically still supposed to be running since y'know, that world is doomed and got invaded by giant alien monsters. So sure, that counts as simply sort of just dying. Not your fault.

So cool it, ball. You're fine.

It shows that you're compassionate, if anything.

So what have you been doing since you got here?

Pottering around, mostly. Discovering food. Talking to other ex-robots.

Getting yelled at on the phone and avoiding old arch-nemeses.

Not much, really, when you get right down to it.

Oh, so she's here, too? Hm.

Still, that's better than I figured any core, especially you (no offense), would do.

Have you tried any food in particular that surprised you?

Ice cream! Ice cream is the best, honestly. Could eat it all day, lovely stuff.

And ham. Had a little of that in the fridge. That was pretty great.

Know what's awesome? Candy. Candy is fucking awesome.

I know you're probably leery of cake, but I'd try it out, just to see it isn't ALL deadly, poisonous, and made with sediment.

Oh, shit, my manners. I'm Teja. Teja Wartooth. I hear there's two of me around though, and the other one is a someone you shouldn't probably talk to since he went a little um. Demonic. So yeah, if you see someone who looks vaguely like me only bigger and spikier and probably feeding on the innards of innocents or something, it's probably a good idea to NOT talk to him.

Candy and cake. Got it.

I'm Wheatley, by the way. Nice to meet you. Um.

Duly noted on the demon thing. Eating innards is generally, uh... a sign that someone ought to be avoided. I'm pretty sure.

Pleased to make your acquaintance.

Yeah, that's usually the sign of crazy. Unless you're talking about eating foie gras, or something similar. Those are innards, but not of people. It's actually pretty good, if you like that sort of thing. One of the people I know swears by the stuff. But he's weird.

Most food sounds disgusting when you realize how it's produced. At least most meat foods.
