I'm weirdly wistful for home. I know the place sucked, and I'd actually rather watch it destroy itself from far, far away, but y'know. You grow up in a place, and you get used to it, it's only natural that you feel a small amount of... I dunno. Attachment.

Anyone else feel that way?

I'm sorry to hear that. But you pulled out of it pretty all right, it seems. Could be worse, right?

You were around when things were more fresh, more prevalent. I um. I know it might sound odd, but would you be interested in telling me about some of the things you saw there? I'm a researcher, and well, there's a lot to be said for someone who's done a lot of traveling in a time when the fantastic was pretty commonplace.

I don't entirely know what you mean by 'the fantastic', but I have no problem with discussing my first life, so to speak. Or at least pieces of it. May I ask what you research precisely?

I'm a paranormal investigator. I research cryptids, spirits, and alien life, specifically, though that kind of covers everything except for the super-nasty stuff that I kinda leave to the Hunters and priest.

Interesting. My expertise is primarily in demonology, and I'm not sure that counts as 'paranormal', but I've no objection to telling you what I can.

Oh, it counts, I just don't personally investigate those things first-hand. I know my limits and that would be demons and entire alien armies. Single aliens, maybe a good half-dozen if I'm having a good day, yeah, no problem. Full armies? Not gunna happen. Same goes with demons. You mess with one of 'em, another one's going to notice and start slapping you around. Seen it happen too many times to people I know, I'm not about to start messing around with that crap.

But I love hearing about it!

It's rather a relief to me when people have that sort of good sense. And most of it's utterly harmless to tell, unless you're hiding alchemical experience under your glasses.

I dabbled, but not recently, and definitely nothing awfully interesting.

Then I would be happy to meet with you sometime and discuss this. I have a bit of a busy schedule, but I'm sure there'll be sometime soon when I won't have duties to attend to.

Whenever you're free, provided it's not next week pretty much at all. My partner and I are going to be in Romania, on an investigation.

I'll see what, if anything, my lady friend might have planned for this weekend. Hell hath no fury like a woman inadvertently ignored.

I have a little sister who is the very definition of that sentiment, so yeah, no ignoring the lady friend. You don't want to find yourself in a nightmare realm from which there is no awakening.

She's wonderful. But I'm the first to admit that I'm not exactly Lothario.

Let me speak to Iku and I'll leave you a note.

Well all right, then. I may have my partner with me. I've been teaching him the ropes for a while, but I've been doing this since I was a kid. He's got a little while to catch up to me.

I'll catch you then. It's been a pleasure talking with you, er, Ariel was it?

Yes, sir. Ariel Gagne, but no one calls me Mister.
