I'm sorry to intrude abruptly, but I was hoping you could give me a bit of advice.

How do you know her?

I don't know her as well as I'd like to.

Uzza, I'm sorry, you're not making sense. I don't want to intrude on anyone's relationship. It'd make me the worst sort of cad.

It's not what you think, Ariel. What are her abilities like?

Abilities? She can do ... something ... to make herself ... gaseous? I don't know. She dropped change on the floor and reached through the desk to get it. She's also rather talented in palmistry. I usually consider that a load of bunk, but she made it convincing.

So she's a bit like her sister.

Sister? Uzza, how do you know her?

She's my daughter.

... Oh!

That is entirely different, of course. I'm sorry, I just wanted to be absolutely clear on what was what. I did enjoy her company very much, and given that I've seen men killed in duels, I wanted to avoid them.

Is there anything else you might like to know?

Anything you might wish to share. And I'd like it very much if you were to court her, you know.

Well, let's not go that far. I would like to see her again, and I'm wondering when it would be appropriate to telephone her, or where it might be appropriate to go. You know I've no experience whatsoever with such things. My wife and I were in love when we were children.

Phone her today. She's likely looking forward to it.

Today? That's not too sudden?

You're not proposing marriage, Ariel. You're asking if she'd like to get lunch.

That's true, I suppose. Courtships change from time to time, though. And I have enough of a brain to know that films are not an accurate guide on how to talk to ladies.

Well, yes. They're incredibly inaccurate.
