Well hello world, it's been a while since I actually paid attention to what's going on here. Sometimes I just go on a walkabout and forget things like computers.

In any case, my name is Meggie Folchart, I'm sure some of you remember me, and for those of you who don't, I'm a freelance Librarian for hire. I've built libraries, maintained libraries, and for a while I was in charge of new arrivals at the London Library.

So that's that.

A librarian?

Are you acquainted with a Miss Lebeau, or a Mr. Singer? Or did you simply fall from the heavens to come to my aid?

I know a couple of the LeBeau women in passing, I believe there's only two of them around, I work with Remy LeBeau now and again, but I'm not formally acquainted with either his almost-daughter, or her daughter, no.

And while I'll never claim to be a godsend, Librarians do tend to know when we're needed, it's like a sixth sense.

The name on my passport is John Nemo, but you may call me Ariel. I asked about Miss Lebeau because Petit knows I just came into possession of a bookshop's worth of rare texts, and it will take weeks for me to catalogue alone.

Oh have you now? Well isn't that fortuitous? I've references, if you need them, and if you'd believe the word of a couple of pirates.

Just Ariel is fine, and pirates ... well, I've met stranger people here. My own story is a bit odd.

I rather think that's something of a prerequisite for arriving here, having an odd story, or, rather, any sort of story at all.

I used to be a librarian. I learned some very useful life skills that way. And got myself in a lot of trouble.

Librarians always get in the best sort of trouble, don't we?

I cannot argue with that.

Have we met before? You seem familiar to me, but for the life of me I can't recall.

I'm not sure. We may have spoken before. You may have seen me at the library.

Always possible. And it's always nice to meet someone else who knows about the Secret Lives of Librarians.

I think I should quite like that. I've most days free, how about you?

Sounds good to me. London, elsewhere or parts unknown?

Let's stick with London, just to keep things simple.

I'm Lirael, by the way.

It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance. Sticking with London is good, I know a lovely little cafe at [address]

Oh, I've been great. Made quite a few friends and also have relatives here. Went to a few weddings. And just recently had a birthday party.

You are quite good at that, rather better at it than most people I've met, I daresay.

Would you like to go to lunch sometime?

Meggie, I would be delighted to go to lunch with you. Name the time and place, and I will be there.

How about Monday? I think ... hm... I'm not sure where, meet me at Hyde Park and we'll find somewhere from there.

(and it was meant as a compliment, I promise)
