Well hello world, it's been a while since I actually paid attention to what's going on here. Sometimes I just go on a walkabout and forget things like computers.

In any case, my name is Meggie Folchart, I'm sure some of you remember me, and for those of you who don't, I'm a freelance Librarian for hire. I've built libraries, maintained libraries, and for a while I was in charge of new arrivals at the London Library.

So that's that.

Peoples of the multiverse, due to a discussion I had earlier, I'm curious to find out if something I've always thought was true, is, in fact, truth.

Wherever you're from, are the women from the southern reaches purportedly more ferocious than their northerly sisters?

Tell me dere are some kinds of fracas coming up in de end of de month.

And one where we keep out skins whole, merci.

On Completely Different Subject:

Is anyone out dere good with cataloging tomes et journals? Laywering means keeping a paper trail et right now my organizing system is more by chronological stacking dan anything else.

Hello, I'm Meggie, I know a few of you know who I am, and probably a larger number of you don't.

In any case I've helped organize one library and built an organizational system for another from the ground up, and now that I know I can, I'd like to offer my services as a freelance librarian-for-hire.

For anyone who's interested I'll be at a couple book fairs this weekend, there's the Cobham Book Fair at the Cobham Village Hall in Cobham, Surrey, that's on the 26th, and after that there's the Richmond Book Fair at 'The Station' in Richmond, North Yorkshire on the 27th.

Other than that I'm easy enough to get ahold of, you can leave me a message here or give me a call [cell#].

I feel as if I'm out of the loop, been immersing myself in a project, and it's quite the project, building up a library catalog system basically from scratch and then putting it to use. Feel a bit like an archeologist, really, which is almost how I've set it up, only way to do it properly I figure.

In any case, I ought to get out and get some sun before I start to glow in the dark. Anyone have suggestions of where I should visit?

It would seem that my employers have vanished into the ether.

I don't suppose anyone has a private library that needs looking after, do they?

Mo? Dustfinger? You're both alright I hope.

I'm with a friend in Dallas, at the book depository of all places, she figured this would be the best place to teach me to shoot. I'm actually doing quite well at it, better than I would have thought.

And what does it say that when we heard there were zombies my first reaction was: "Oh? What kind?"

The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!
He left it dead, and with its head
He went galumphing back.

For once I find myself with absolutely nothing to do. This is... well it's rather freeing and rather terrifying all at the same time, I'm not used to having much free time for myself, I'm good at keeping busy, but I finished all of my household chores earlier in the week and I've got the day off at the Library tomorrow on account of renovations, so, does anyone have some suggestions on what to do on a Friday night in London?

So apparently there was a holiday on Thursday in honor of librarians, I came in to a goodly pile of thank you cards from our regular patrons, my favorite of which doesn't actually have to do with the holiday at all, but is from a young girl who was here just last week and says 'thank you for finding me so my mum didn't worry'.

This is the girl that was sitting on the steps when I arrived last week, had lost track of her parents at the street fair going on across the way, so I stayed with her until they found her again and then gave them a tour of the intake room. Some days I love my job.

Well that is the strangest and rather most disgusting thing that's ever happened to me.

My saliva, it seems, is now ink, not unlike the witches in the Roald Dahl book of the same title. It doesn't taste like ink, which I am immensely thankful for, but I can write with it.

[Locked from evil kidnapping "purifying" bigots] [Mar. 21st, 2009|05:59 pm]

So Stan and I were talking, and we don't have any powers or anything but we want to help those of you who are in trouble.  We don't want to get shot by douchebags, so we're going to put up posters with slogans about how bigots are evil, "People with powers are still PEOPLE!", stuff like that.  Here are my questions to the community:

1.) Is there anyone else who wants to join us on our guerilla poster campaign?  I know there's a lot of people here without powers who feel well... powerless, on the sidelines watching as their friends are getting attacked.  This might be your way to help out.

2.)  To those who have loved ones gone missing- would anyone be willing to volunteer pictures of missing persons?  We were thinking of putting pictures of kidnapped people with a number to call if anyone has any information.  Maybe someone out there saw something.

We're also volunteering our services to help hide anyone in trouble.  I know this isn't much, but we're offering all we got.

I've finally finished getting the fliers printed up, they're a brief, bullet-pointed list of the sordid and bloody history of the printing press, trying to start a sort of guerrilla warfare campaign of encouraging people to read.

Who wants to help me leave them in phonebooths and busses? Coffee shop information tables are good too, and those little kiosks with maps and postcards.

It seems that everyone's in need of a good assistant these days. I'm no exception. Though the one I've got right now is good as good could be, she's been wanting a change of pace for a while, so I'd like to get someone more attuned to the idea of sorting through old texts, spells, enchanted artifacts and possibly working for immortals which are in the business of purveying items of dubious origin to shops and museums that can turn the other cheek.

Succinctly put, we (vampiric pirates) need you (hopefully magically/paranormally experienced assistant) to help us arrange things so we can set up shop in the next few months.

My debut with Cirque De Soleil was delayed, until this weekend. It's nothing to do with me and more to do with sudden changes within the performance.

Frankie, Meggie, I've a pair of front row seats with all access passes for the both of you on Saturday night, my first performance. I do hope you can both make it.

Well, now this is an unexpected development. I've never been in a tornado before. At least, that's what I think it was. Even so, coming from Chicago to London is a bit of a stretch. Any idea how to get back? I sort of need to check on my company for a little surprise visit. Keeps them on their toes.

Ohh.. sorry, I nearly forgot my manners. Perhaps this predicament affected me more than I thought. My name is Damien Thorn, Yale student and CEO of Thorn Industries. This sort of thing doesn't happen very often. Usually not at all. I wonder if anyone else has ever been in the same predicament..

Humans have been nothing if not extraordinarily prolific since my time. It's a wonderful and luxurious thing to run my fingers over the spine of books that are not me. I confess to reading bits and pieces of all of them, just in case one of them is some poor creature that somehow got trapped as well. I doubt that happened to anyone but me, but books are nothing if nobody reads them, just blank pages.

The angels and demons were correct to fight over the Invention, though. The world is very, very different with its presence. ... though I've said too much.

I have decided that I rather like being a librarian, especially the part where I'm the first one to see new arrivals, donations or purchases, either way, I get to greet them and put the protective covers on and everything, it's... I suppose it's a bit like being an ambassador, making sure everyone's alright from the trip and everyone gets along.

It's, rather the perfect job for me, I think.

Okay, okay, I'll stop being, as Mum so lovingly put it, a "bloody recluse". She makes it sound like I'm writing manifestos or something.

Who would like to go out tonight? I'll even pay.

I don't suppose anyone knows where I can find a proper stationery shop in London? I misplaced my journals during the trip here, and I miss them.

I've been making do with a notebook and a packet of ball point pens that I got at the Tesco's, but I need a proper journal and a proper pen again. It feels odd not to have my volumes, I suppose I'll just have to start them up again, but not not until I have proper supplies to do it with.

Alright, whatever just happened I swear it wasn't me this time, I wasn't reading, I was bringing in the wash off the line and now...

... now I'm not. Now I'm in a library.

(Inkheart spoilers likely in comments)
