Fingers! Four lovely, long digits and two thumbs! Oh, I haven't had fingers since that dreadful day I was confined to the page. Oh, how lovely and wonderful to arch my back, to curl my toes, to breathe.

Though the air is far more rank than I remember the World Above being. And what in the Demonation is this contraption? It's as if I know how to use it, like some baser instinct is guiding my beautiful new fingers.

You. Yes, you reading this. What year is it? And oh - oh by the Torments - where are my tails?

It is the year of the Lord two-thousand-nine, but just barely.

And you probably left your tails in your other pants, sorry to say.

Who might you be, pretty boy?

Two-thousand-nine? When I was put to the page, I never thought humanity would make it to two thousand at all.

It's a pity. My tails were my only vanity, my best feature.

My name is Jakabok Botch, though my friends usually refer to me as Mister B. for the familiarity. And oh, I'm not pretty. The skin may be, but I am not.

They almost didn't. Thankfully, however, there are some of us partial to this plane.

I know what that's like. I was distraught, the first time I lost my snake. Oh, the jokes to be made there.

Well, then, it's lucky that the skin is all I can see for now, isn't it? Botch. Don't think I've heard of you. Anthony J. Crowley, servent of the King Asmodei, purveyor of vice and sexuality.

Were you around for the battle that cost me my body? I always wondered if it was talked about.

Don't worry, I'll refrain.

I don't know, I was handsome in my way before the fire. And please, Mister B. if you will. And you wouldn't have - I was the most minor of devils. Despite the fact that my father was quite important to the ninth circle, I was a bit of a bastard. All right, I was a complete bastard, in the more old-fashioned way.

I don't remember, but I wouldn't take that personally. I don't remember much before arriving here. I blame the hallucinogenics.

Oh, I wasn't. Worried. I'm just saying, there are.

Oh, we all are, but I'm rather partial to the human forms, lately, Mister B. And there's no harm in being any sort of bastard. It's probably worth warning you, Satan is here. Female human. And Lucifer...

I have no idea what his deal is, but he's fucking a clone of the virgin mother. And that's amusing, in the least.

It was in Maniz, if that jogs your memory.

Indeed. Though it's quite obvious, and I'll avoid it on principal.

How do you breathe in it? It's so damn hot! And Satan? She's ... you know, I memorized the Torments, I went to school and prayed to her every night, but I never thought. And the Morningstar? He's - well, that's a lovely bit of Seduction he's pulled off. He should be commended.

...No, afraid not.

Good choice.

You get used to it, after a while- you've never been human before? The Others say the same thing about God. Who is also female, here. Literally, to clarify. And you're assuming it was his idea. which I'm not entirely convinced about. She is rather the persuasive little minx, herself.

I suppose I could tell you, if you wished.

Something I'm not actually known for, but I'm glad I can still make them.

No. I was terribly burned as a child, and it melted most of my scales together, as well as burning my features. I could pass for human myself with shoes and pants. A horribly disfigured human, but human nonetheless. She - what place have I come to be?

And aren't they all?

If you were really that bored. I'm in the process of getting drunk, so I don't suppose I'll remember much of it.

None of us are made for jokes. It's an acquired skill.

Oh, that's awful. There is an explanaion- [website]. I'll warn you right now, though, it's pretty awful itself.

She's a cut above. I think it comes from being a clone of a holy thing.

Do you know where you are?

I suppose I shouldn't really tell. I don't know if I should tell. The angels might try to put me right back on the page.

It's very... bright. Demonation, that stings the eyes.

Ironically, I'm in London. Right where I was fished up.

That's the best part, pretty boy. No angels here to ruin our fun.

Doesn't it? Basic story: alternate universe, no getting home. Gods, devils, fictional characters. Try not to kill too many people, and you'll be left alone. Congratulations.

Mm. The bloody isles. Well, if you ever get sick of all the propriety, I have a resort, in Monte Carlo. Aptly named Eden. Do look us up.

Ah, but how do I know you're not lying? It is what we're best at, and you've no allegiance to me.

No baby's blood baths? Well, I suppose I could try milk and honey, that was as close as I could find.

I honestly don't know where that is. I've been a book since about ... I'd say 1430, give or take ten years. My memory isn't what it used to be. Since I had no new experiences, no new joys or sorrows, there was little point in remembering anything.

Paranoia. Refreshing. Fine, don't believe me. It's no scale off my pabck.

Hey, I won't tell if you don't, I'm just saying what it says, boy. Besides, there are places you could bathe in the blood of whatever you wanted, for a price.

One of those types, are you? Then you're desprately in need of new experiences. And definately not British experiences, at that.

I've been a book for centuries. Begging to be burned, to finally be free to rest. Pardon me for worrying about going back.

Well, it seems I've "replaced" a humble librarian. Oh, ironies!

Experiences I have, just not any with so many of these new toys that humans invented. Quitoon, oh he would have loved it here.

Mister B, then if you insist... though it does lack a bit of formality. But I do aim to please, so long as it amuses me to do so.

I'm Kakia. Greek Goddess of Vice and Immorality.

If you do get those tails back... or heck, even one? do let me know.

I'm not certain I would be called 'noble'.

There's a link [here] that explains things. it's rather bright and unsightly, but it explains things, in so far as things can be explained.

Assuming you can read? And I don't mean that to be rude, but seeing as you were apparently not quite human, before...well.

I was a demon, then I was a book. I am as close to The Word as God herself. I can read.

I'm simply not used to high-born demons speaking to me. Spittle was as good as they ever gave me.

I was an Angel, made of God's own hand.

I ought to have been cast out when I lost the sword, but I hung in there for a few millenia.

I've only recently declared myself Fallen.

As an angel, I was rather...ill informed.

That's a pity. The only angel I ever met was quite friendly with a demon I knew, in as much as they saw the War as a bit of a chess game.

A metaphorical one.

It's unlikely; I was never a large part of the game. I was simply a bystander that was kept quiet. Did you know Gutenberg?
