CHALLENGE 5 (near-death confessions)
There was still no real indication of where or how the fire had started. Not that she really had the time to ask the questions right now, getting people out had taken top priority. This wasn't the first fire she'd ever been present at, but this wasn't an aspect of her job before. Logan had never rushed toward the flames because there had always been a full team of firefighters ready and willing to do so. Now the small team the island had, had was almost entirely gone and something about knowing Nate had rushed to help had left her more worried than relieved though she had done her best to push the thought aside and focus on helping instead. It was too warm now, the fires growing as they happily engulfed the hotel. Rubbing her arm across her forehead, she kept her shirt pulled up over her face and kept going. They were attempting to make a final sweep, see if anyone had gotten trapped and needed help before they retreated from the flames entirely. "Might have heard somebody down the hall," she called out, not even sure which volunteer had come down the stairs to help with this floor. Her focus was on getting closer, unsure if the noise was actually someone in need of help or just the fire playing tricks. Some of the cracks and groaning noises the distressed wood was making sounded decidedly human if you didn't know better. Despite the thin guard of cotton, she coughed as she crouch-walked closer. |
