He didn’t like this. Didn’t like it one fucking bit. Logan shouldn’t be up here, she should have been downstairs, safely outside of this building with everyone else. Nate knew that was selfish of him to think or want, and yet he found that if it weren’t for the task at hand it was very likely he would have picked her ass up and hauled her out of the building himself. He also knew that she wasn’t the sort of woman who was just going to sit around while the building burned. It wasn’t in her nature, and on any other day he would admit he found that attractive. Today he just found it made him nervous for her. He couldn’t do his job and make sure she was okay, and yet he was going to try like hell to do exactly that.
Nate didn’t have time to be thinking about this though, they had a task and currently he was the most qualified to accomplish said task. Shoving his own concern aside, he tried to focus on the situation at hand and trust that Logan would be able to take care of herself. She could take care of herself, there was just something inside of him that didn’t like her being in danger - and right now he didn’t have time to figure out why that was (except he knew why that was and he also didn’t have time to sink down that rabbit hole either.)
When she paused to let him catch up, he was grateful. Nate stopped himself short of stepping around her to lead the way. She had heard the noise and not him, which meant she likely had more of an idea in which direction they should truly be moving.
“We need to make this quick and keep moving,” He replied. “So let’s hope they call out again.” Nate wasn’t going to voice any of the thoughts he had, or concerns. They were moving towards the fire, and without the proper gear both he and Logan were just as susceptible to the smoke and heat as the possible person Logan had heard. “Were any of these rooms cleared and is anyone else on this floor with you?”
