Who: Martha Jones and Jack Harkness
What: The trials and tribulations of putting together a nursery
When: Saturday, September 14, 2013
Where: Harkness/Jones Home
For the third time in as many minutes, Martha was wondering why she hadn't taken up her father's offer to do more than just send the old crib up to Cardiff, but to come with it and help put it together. The piece had been in the Jones family for the last several generations and was passed on to whomever the next person having a child was. Her parents had used it, her uncle and aunt had used it and Leo had used it. And now it was Martha's turn...
Or it would be. If she could get the bloody thing together. She'd gotten up early today trying to get some more work done on the baby's room, who - now that they knew was a boy - would be enjoying a nice colour green on the walls. It was better than the yellow she's previously chosen. She was less than a month and counting now, and while the pregnancy hadn't been unpleasant, the little guy seemed to love waking her up at odd hours of the night - she had gotten more and more frustrated as they went along, with the inability to continue doing things that once would have been easy... Like her job. She couldn't go out into the field now. Or more immediately, trying to put the crib together.
"UGH!" Martha finally had enough! She let the piece she'd been working with fly against the wall and dropped the screwdriver. "Can't bloody even do this!" She wasn't one to let the frustration get the best of her, but this... this was just getting ridiculous! "I hope you appreciate all of this," she said to her stomach. "Won't be long now..."
