Ellis ; A Pleasent Stroll
Subject: An Afternoon's Stroll
Who: Ellis Wetherald
Where: The Streets of London
Warnings: None
Open to: Anyone

Ellis had been up and about for only a few hours, despite it now being 4 'o'clock in the afternoon, having slept off his hangover from the night before and successfully avoided any of those that might have attempted to collect what they were owed. He would have to speak to Benedict again before long about an increase in allowance, in fact, he would do it tomorrow; pay a little surprise visit to Benedict, Eleanor and their children. He wanted to meet the children very much, and it was rude of Benedict not to have told him about the additions to the family. Only Bella had told him, glad to no longer be the youngest.

Ah, Bella. She would have enjoyed the Hurst's Ball, although probably not his attention to Miss Patience Hurst. A very attractive young lady, there was no doubt about that. Amusing too. Smart, even, in her own way. Popular too, and well know for her skills as a hostess. And rich. Very, very rich. In short, in Ellis' mind, she was perfect. Just the sort of young woman he should get to know better in the coming weeks, until his crone of a mother gave in and gave him the money he asked of her. She would, in the end.

He smiled to himself, pulling on his jacket and hummed as he went to the door, selecting his cane from the stand and shutting the door behind himself. It was a fine day. Perhaps it might rain in the night, but he would be inside, probably at a party by that point, and rain would hardly hurt him there. Still humming, he made his way down the cobbled street, unsure where his feet would lead him, but enjoying himself all the same.

"And that means you have a woman in mind?" Patience asked, disappointed. This seemed to be her luck recently - an eligible man would present himself and then prove in some way or other to be unacceptable, usually through having already engaged his heart to another woman.

Ellis laughed gently, "No, no, I have not got a woman in mind. I have hardly been in England long enough to form such a close relationship with any woman." He said, patting her hand again gently as they neared the park. "Although I admit that I am very glad to have made your acquiescence."

“I’m very pleased to have made your acquaintance too.”
Patience smiled widely, brushing a hand through her hair and adjusting her bonnet more fetchingly. She wished now she had worn her best going out coat and hat, the one they used for the Christmas service at church, but she supposed that what she had was more than passable. Still, she could always use a new coat, and a dress and some new boots now hers were scuffed.

Ellis smiled at her as they stepped into the park, "If I remember correctly, you have never travelled to Venice, have you?" He asked her, as they walked along the path. "One day you must. I would be happy to be your guide, should you ask."

"No, I haven't." Patience said softly, glancing up at him, her smile wider still. "I would love to go to Venice one day. I hear it's so romantic. And I would dearly love you to be my guide."

"I would be most honoured to do so." He told her. "It is the most romantic city in the world- no wonder it inspires even men with little talent to compose poetry." He said, glancing up at the first hints of changing leaves. "I do fear that we shall have a colder autumn than our Venetian friends."

"Do you compose poetry, Mr Wetherald?" Patience asked softly. She did so enjoy poetry, especially what her brother Charles' wrote. Romantic poetry was her favourite. "I suppose so, but I wouldn't really have anything to compare it to."

"I do attempt to, Miss Patience, although I am afraid I am no artist. It can be so diffecult to put into words the feelings in ones soul." He explained, smiling a little shyly, as if not sure of his own skills. "Perhaps this year we shall have ice on the river. I do miss skating. In Venice, there is hardly ever so, and so the young ladies hardly have an excuse to wear their furs."

"I am quite sure I would like to hear some, Mr Wetherald. I am planning to have a reading at my house - my brother Charles writes poetry too, and we have a great many friends who are interested in art and literature - and I would be delighted if you would come and read something you have written." Patience said. She had mentioned something of the like to Lucas, and she and Ella had made plans of the kind although never followed them through. Now seemed like a wonderful time to attempt such an endeavour.

"Not wear their furs? And no skating? I would have to visit Venice in the summer. I could never stand to lose such wonderful things."

"I would be delighted and honoured, Miss Patience, to join you and your dear friends." He said, bowing to her, "Although I have never shared my work with anyone outside our circle, but I am certain your good brother will be able to give me helpful counsel on my works." He said.

"I always found Venetian winters beautiful in their own way, but hardly like our own. Their Christmas celebrations were somewhat more... continental and I did find myself mourning the English style. Thank goodness I shall be home this year, and I hope for a good many years after."

"I am pleased to hear so." Patience said, making a note to go home and send out invitations as soon as a passable time presented itself. "You needn't worry that we will be critical. It is a meeting of friends."

"I would hope so too." She said, squeezing his arm lightly.

He smiled brightly at her, "Can I take that to mean, Miss Patience, that you enjoy my company?" He asked, almost teasing her. "As borish as I am?"

"May I ask, aside from yourself and your good brother, who else I might expect to see at such a gathering?" He asked, worried slightly but trying his hardest not to show it in his mannerisms or voice- after all, he did not wish to bump into anyone that might remember him for before his trip.

"Borish?" Patience said, shocked. "Whenever have you been borish, Mr Wetherold and yes, I do enjoy your company - as much of it as I have had so far."

"Oh, maybe my other brother Simon might join us. I doubt our youngest, Crispin, could sit still for it. Lucas Blake, he's a very good artist, Wilhelmina Stockbridge, my cousin Angélique Worthington. I presume there will be other but I shan't know till I invite them."

He laughed, patting her hand, "You are too kind to me, Miss Patience, far too kind." He smiled gently, "I hope our walk has not yet tired you?"

Ellis blinked. A great deal of famous names, ones that he had heard gossiped about but had not yet had the chance to meet. "Your circles of friends, Miss Patience, is very formidable."
