SUBJECT: Lysander is depressed, but what's new right?

Life hadn't gone very smoothly over the last few weeks for Lysander. He had admitted to Katherine, and therefore admitted to Eward that he did infact hire a thug to do away with Rochester's betrothed, and coincidentally hadn't had much contact with either of them since then. Eward had even come back home and still didn't even toss Lysander a glance.

As a result, Lysander's warm, kind, romantic personality had been absent, even to Amandine over the weeks. Moping, drinking, not shaving, and just general staring at nothing was all that Lysander could do. He didn't even try to reach out to Eward, his younder brother didn't need him. He had his girl now, he had heard that from Daphne and Daniel. Katherine constantly visited Eward when he was being taken care of, and now he was a free man. He had to be with Katherine every moment he could, atleast that's what Lysander would do if he was in his shoes.

Wandering the halls of his vast mansion, as he did these days, he approached his brother's bedroom door when he was startled by the sound of the doorknob turning. Quickly, he jumped to hide in one of the empty bedrooms and peeked out the tiny crack in the door. It had to be Katherine, trying to slip out of the house undetected or Eward trying to sneak off and see her. But it was neither. Two scantily clad, thoroughly sexed women tip-toed out and down the stairs. This cannot be right! What on earth were those women doing in his brother's bedroom? His brother who was supposed to be in love with the perfect woman!

Rage poured through him, the first true feeling he had felt in days, and he waited until the women were gone and he marched with a purpose to his brother's room. Busting through the door, he glared at his brother, his voice very raspy as he scolded, "What the hell do you think you are doing? What about Katherine, you stupid son of a bitch?!"

"Well then you may have saved me from a lifetime of misery," said Eward of his brother's explanation of doing it for both their sakes.

"It is over between us," Eward said with a scathing look at his brother. "It is over. I asked her to marry me. Twice. And each time she turned me down. Actually, the second time she merely burst into tears and would not allow me the pleasure of hearing a straightforward answer and she made it quite clear that it meant nothing to her, what we had, what I thought we had.... That is the reason I am here, in my bedroom, consoling myself with whores and alcohol and you are not helping!"

Lysander stared at him, trying to absorb everything. The explaination, what had actually happened between the two of them and something occured to him. "So, she never actually gave you an answer? She was just crying?" he interjected and scratched his scruffy cheek while in thought.

"Well, if you ask me, I can see why she would turn you down, if that is what happened. Her fiancee just died. Even if you had nothing to do with his demise, it would appear that way if you just all of a sudden married her and were seen out and about together all the time," he reasoned.

"We discussed that the first time!" Eward snapped, clearly not likin his brother's answer. Wouldn't it just be easier for him to agree and console him before leaving and sending in the next few girls?

"She said it was not the time. I waited. I proposed... but clearly it did not mean much to her! I could not.... I thought I could not be without her. It is obvious that I can." Except it wasn't. He was more obviously a mess and pining for her.

"You obviously didn't wait long enough.. and don't hand me that 'I can live without her' crap, when it's obvious you cannot. You have to be drunk to even consider sleeping with someone else," he sighed and sat down on the edge of the bed. "I don't like seeing you this way.. I know you think I don't care, but I do. Granted I haven't been there for you lately, but I figured I would give you and Katherine both a bit of space because I thought you wouldn't really want me around."

"Katherine does not want either of us around. It is not a matter of when the time was right - if she wanted me she would not have thrown the insults she did the moment she realised I was upset!" He shook his head. "She serves to ridicule me and that is her sole purpose in life. I am not broken nor bereived - I am moving on... I am becoming the man I used to be instead of a fool who thinks he can fall in love."

Lysander sighed and looked down at his folded hands in his lap. "I am sorry this happened, had I known, I would have never tried to interfere. She seemed to me to love you and want nothing but the best for you. I mean, she was completely upset and heart broken when she thought you had killed her fiancee. Seemed to me she was completely in love with you. BUT, you would know better than me, I suppose," he shrugged and stood.

"However, I do not believe that you are completely unscathed because of this. You had turned into a decent human being, and now you are just going to go back to your old ways because something didnt work out.. I've been in your shoes, Eward.. It gets better I promise."
