"Distressed by men's underhand business." she repeated, eyebrows raised. "Surely you know that is far from true given the man who is my father alone, and while my looks are delicate, they are the only delicate things about me." she smiled slightly, quickly forgiving him for his little attempted foray into her head.

"Though I very much doubt, from the tone in your voice, that you would be surprised that I understand 'men's underhanded business' far better than I do other members of my own sex." she used the word sex as opposed to gender for a reason, she also knew he was probably clever enough to figure out why. "While you on the other hand seem to do quite well with women, it would be such an interesting talent were it not inherent in every fop and dandy one comes across."

Ramez laughed - he could not keep a straight face and throw insults after she had so cleverly delivered that one on him. "You would think it would offend me to be bundled into the same line as the weak and feminine men but on the contrary it amuses me a great deal. I highly doubt you think I am, shall we say, on the same page as they are. The only men I place a kiss upon are the ones who are about to die." At my mercy...

Wrinkling his eyes at her, a twinkle in the depths of them, he added "and I must say, Miss Slater, that your delicate looks might be the only endearing thing about you."

"How very continental of you." she said, referring to him kissing any man at all. "But you are making assumptions on the way I think, not a very wise thing, assuming what a woman is thinking. But I will say you hardly look the sort to fancy other men, though appearances, as I am sure you know, mean nothing. I am an excellent example of this truth, I may look delicate and I am certainly not."

Her smile was sweet and urbane as one would expect from a proper young woman, when she was decidedly not. "You could say that, but it would most certainly be a lie. You find my tongue amusing, if you had not you would have told me off and left. But I think the real reason you're hanging about me is that I am in fact Irving Slater's daughter and you think I could be possibly be useful to you."

"Or assuming that women think at all," he said prominently, a very stern look on his face as if it were a serious problem. One could never be too careful - women who had a braincell were quite dangerous. This one was tenfold.

Whilst Delia spoke Ramez took the opportunity to grab a drink from a passing servant and smelled the wine before he drank it. Nice taste, but nothing like home. "Ah, see - but there you go! You assume that I would have simply walked off if I found you annoying when in fact, I am one to challenge annoying people just to annoy them themselves..." Another sip, another smile. "And of course you are of use to me. You are distracting me from dismally formal proceedings."

She chuckled lightly, "Oh women certainly think, they think a great deal more than they should. And we do not have the distraction of thinking with the wrong head as you men do." Delia was a clever little thing, which only made her more dangerous.

"If you are using that sort of logic, Mr. Detraum, then you must not think me annoying, as I am far from annoyed. In fact, if we are to judge my current feelings as an indication of yours, then you must enjoy my company a great deal." but she knew he was drawn to her because her name was Slater. And she actually was alright with that as he was very entertaining. "I make a very good distraction."
