Just what he needed. There was nothing worse than being called Irving twice in a row. Giving Vivian a subtle yet still obvious-to-her warning look he then turned to Harry.

"Not to worry, Vivian, love. The discussion is hardly going anywhere when all the other party can do is pick holes in my argument as they haven't got their own." He patted her arm gently and then turned to Delia. "As you seem so keen as to perfect my insults though, Fisher I'll offer you some advice.. I wouldn't bother trying to bring up my dealings with your dear old Ma. The experience wasn't that memorable, so that particular blade will hardly cut deep. The one which sorted out your Georgie on the other hand..." he smirked, "well. Less said about that, the better eh?"

Damn, damn, damn the man to hell! Harry had kept his composure, even attempted to show himself amused by the poor quality of insults that were thrown. But as Slater cast Vivian off like some unimportant trollop, and then, then say Georgie's name, that was it. Harry snapped, and as tightly wound as he had been these last few months, all the pent-up anger, the rage, the tiredness and frustration had to come out somewhere, and unfortunately (perhaps only unfortunate due to their current surroundings) the target for all those emotions became Slater's nose, which Harry took great delight in punching as hard as he fucking well could. "Treat the lady with some respect." He hissed, "And don't sound so happy you had a kid murdered, you little shit."

Vivian swallowed, stepping back and shrinking into herself a little. She had been clearly warned by Slater, her pride a little hurt, and she chewed her lip, listening half-heartedly to the inevitable insults still being thrown. When Georgie's name was mentioned, however, she let out a tiny gasp, looking up; oh, that was low. That was low, and she was about to step forward again and berate Slater when... Harry punched him.

For a moment, she was preoccupied with the fact that Harry actually cared whether she was shown respect or not. Her internal dialogue momentarily sent feelings of fondness in Harry's direction before she realised that... he'd... just... punched... Slater. And then she cried out and covered her mouth, eyes wide. "Harry!!"

As far as Slater knew he hadn't treated Vivian any different than normal and, with Harry's growing anger obvious in the split second before the punch, he had turned to speak to her once more. Perhaps that was fortunate, as when Harry hit him he did not manage to break Slater's nose. Not that it was very hard. Slater stumbled, that was true, but an unprepared man was always going to lose his footing.

After regaining his composure he stood, touching his nose which had blood coming out of one nostril. Wonderful. With a low growl hidden behind a grim smile, Slater spat "I treat her with more respect than you ever did, and it's better to kill 'em than bugger 'em... thanks for showing yourself up tonight though, Fisher. Don't think you've escaped much people's notice now..." he said, gesturing to the crowd of posh people horrified to witness such an assault and now hanging on every word.

"I'll be in the bathroom, Delia," he said, ignoring Vivian for the moment as he walked away. He was far too annyoed and if she wanted to follow him she could.

Delia had been silently observing the goings on, keeping her voice out of the conversation because she knew her annoyance at the older woman's presence would color her tone. And she had managed to learn something valuable. Viv used to be with Fisher, and that little jem negated her father's orders to be civil to the woman, it was now feeding time in the shark tank.

As far as she was concerned that whore had made her father bleed as much as Fisher did and she would share in his punishment.

She had been prepared to help her father but he was up and away before she could make a move. Viv was pathetic, crying out, looking shocked, Delia had seen too many men get hit for it to phase her and the quickness with which her father rose told her not to worry too much for him. And remarkably she was able to hold herself back, knowing how bad it would look if she hauled off and hit Fisher in return, even as rage had quickly filled her little frame, but she was surprisingly calm, Harry would get his soon enough and at her hands, she was very patient and would wait years just to put this one encounter to rest, if she had to.

She watched her father go before turning her eyes to Harry. "I hope you are pleased with youself, Mr. Fisher," she said coolly, enjoying the fact that Harry had been so public with his actions. "As this does not bode very well for you and the future of your little catamites."

Nell had been across the ballroom, talking to someone but the sound of shouting – and Harry’s name at that – had silenced the collective room. He’d looked up in time to see Slater get punched, and to see the bastard was bleeding and he could guess the rest of what had gone on before.

“Harry,” He said, rushing to the man’s side. “Harry, what did you do? You can’t just go around hitting people,” He glared at Slater’s departing back, and at Viv too for good measure and the other girl with them. “No matter what gutter rubbish they might be.”

It was then, the ache dulling in his fist that Harry realised he was not alone, or on the streets of Hackney where such a short-lived fight would hardly have caused a crowd to gather. He cursed to himself silently. "Forgive me, but I couldn't let such a brute continue to turn the air blue, could I?" Harry said, "And duelling is an illegal past-time." He added, glancing from Nell to the crowd.

Vivian was somewhat in shock. In a matter of seconds, there'd been a mild commotion, and Slater had stormed off. For a moment, she considered following him, but eventually just stayed still, staring at her feet. However, when Nell came up and threw her a glare, muttering about gutter rubbish, she cleared her throat, taking a step forwards and taking Harry's hand, whether he wanted her to or not. She was only trying to help, and by god, she was going to help.

She inspected his knuckles, avoiding looking at his face. "They're going to bruise. He turned his head so you hit cheekbone too. It'll sting for a while." She dropped it then, still not looking back at Nell. "He's going to come after you now, you know."

Harry was trying to calm his breath, but in the time it took to get his heart beat to slow, his anger had only increased again. How dare Slater just run away, how dare he! He was just an old fool, a stupid old fool and a coward too. He growled to himself, and flexed his fingers to feel the dull ache. He'd drawn blood, and that was enough. "Don't touch me." He told Viv, and glanced back at Nell. Slater was already after them, but first blood was his.
