Antoine was having a relatively good evening. Having run into an old friend, he felt more at ease at the social gathering than he had in a while. So, when he heard the voice of the young Hurst girl, Antoine simply smiled and took another sip of his champagne.

"Madamoiselle Hurst. How are you this evening?" Using his free hand, he took hers and placed a kiss to it, smiling up at her with his usual gentlemanly flair.

Patience blushed, smiling widely at the man in front of her.
"Very well, thank you. But that is all your doing, I don't know what I would have done had you not come along that day when you did. Everyone is talking about it." She didn't tell him exactly what they were saying, especially as some of it was quite odd.

Antoine tilted his head to the side, a little confused at her words. How was it possible that everyone was talking about it? And what could they have said? Sipping his champagne, he smiled down at her. "Well, I am glad that I was there to be of service to you. No beautiful woman, such as yourself, should have to deal with things like that."

"You are too kind." Patience said, rather delighted that the man still appeared as charming and good natured as he'd been when he rescued her. "Will you wait here a moment? There is someone who's just dying to meet you!"

She didn't wait for him to answer but disapeared off into the crowd, coming back a few moments later arm-in-arm with her father. "Daddy, this is Antoine Laurent, the man who saved me."

Lord Hurst knew the man, knew the name of his lover's brother the moment it had been mentioned on the day Patience had been attacked. But it would not have done to have shown that in front of his daughter. "Ah, Monsieur Laurent. I understand your acts of heroism saved my daughter. You have my thanks, sir." He said with a smile, offering the Frenchman his hand to shake. "Patience has not stopped talking about her rescue- and her rescuer, for that matter- the past week. I am glad you accepted her invitation tonight."

There was a moment in which Antoine wondered how Lord Hurst would react to seeing him. However, discretion was the better part of valor so he simply extended his hand and shook the other man's with a smile. "It was my pleasure, Lord Hurst. I am simply glad that I was there to help defend Madamoiselle Hurst." Turning to Patience, he smiled again. "I had to take the chance to make sure that she was still well, not too shaken up by the encounter."
