Hearing his name, Antoine tensed a bit at first. After all, who would it be that knew his name and was familiar enough to call to him? Then he realized that there was a bit of home in those words and felt reassured. Turning, he smiled in greeting. He hadn't seen Théodore in a while. He wasn't happy about the fact that Aimé had seen Théodore and not mentioned it to him. Reminding himself to mention that to his brother at a later time, he smiled.

"I am not sure about Augustin. I have not spoken to him in a while. However, Aimé and Father are here as well. They both seem to be doing rather well." At least, well enough. Father wasn't well enough, but at least he was still living and that was something. It was so nice to speak in French - it was one of the things that he missed. "How have you been?"

Théodore nodded. He had known, back in France, that the old man Laurent's health was beginning to fail him, but perhaps the air of England, and the safety the country offered for his family, had done him a good turn. "I am glad they are well, Antoine." He said with true feeling. He only had his sister in this wide world now, her and his books. Oddly, he felt that he knew Pericles and Plato better...

"I have coped. Father would turn in his grave if he knew there was no money left, but it was better spent then left to be stolen, don't you agree?" He said. Not that he cared either away about who stole what- the old aristos valued nothing but what would enhance their status, and these new... citizens, they called themselves, they cared only for what would burn. "What was left brought me passage for myself and my treasures, and so here I am. So what misadventure brought you to England?"

Antoine smiled, a nod indicating that he was paying attention. "I am glad they are well too. We have been worried about Father's health for a while now, but he seems to be getting better." At least he hoped so. While he was sure that he'd be able to handle the change in their lives. Aimé may not be able to.

He was glad that they didn't have to worry about not having money. He had investments and plans to succeed. There was plenty of money and so he wasn't concerned with that. What he was concerned with, well that was totally different. "No misadventure. Couldn't allow Father to live through the hassle that those people were putting us through. So, we packed up and left."

Nodding, he took a sip of his champagne before speaking. "How have you been settling into this...foreign country?"

"Settling? As best as can be hoped for, I suppose. The weather here is the most distasteful, it curls and rots papers and cracks wood. Nothing can be repaired or restored if the air is damp, and the air is always damp. The labourers are all brutes with no eye for detail or even the barest understanding of fragile." He paused to take a sip of his drink, realising that his 'trade' talk would be found offensive, if not simply boring, but his old friend. "But such is England." He added with a faint smile. "But I imagine it is more difficult for you? London is hardly Paris, even on the driest and sunniest of days."

Antoine had no problem with trade talk. It didn't bother him - everyone had to have something to do to occupy their time. And for his old friend, it was his old papers and books, treasures as they were. However much he didn't understand the trade talk, he did understand the sentiment. "I agree. The English seem to just be so...less civilized then the French. At least the French at Versailles anyway." The French people were displaying their lack of civilisation at the moment. "Although, I have to admit there are good sides. No concern about meeting Madame Guillotine anytime soon."
