Patience wasn’t sure who the woman was exactly. She knew of her, yes. Her husband was a jeweller by trade but she couldn’t think of that as a reason to invite them but then there seemed to be an awful lot of merchants and traders here tonight. They must be Mr. Petrov’s friends, she decided. He obviously had a lot to do with local trade.

She crossed the room, determined to be a good hostess – especially to a woman who could give her a discount on jewels.
“Mrs Hardwick, isn’t it?” She asked, curtsying. “I’m Lady Patience Hurst, Lord Hurst’s daughter.”

There was a moment when Marie blinked, unsure who was speaking to her, but then she saw the girl, a pretty thing, young, introducing herself. Ahhh, the daughter of the host! Marie didn't know her, but she knew of her, and she was determined to at least make friends tonight, even if she couldn't find her own. "Ahh, Miss Hurst! Yes, that's me, but you may call me Marie." She gave the girl a smile, and curtseyed gently in return.

"This is quite the party. You must congratulate your parents for holding such a splendid occasion, it appears to be going off without a hitch."

Patience fixed her smile on her face, brushing her hair back.
"Marie," She said - a nice, sensible name. "If I am to call you Marie then you must call me Patience."

She nodded, glancing around the room at all the guests and how merry they all seemed. "Oh yes. Mother is quite adapt at these things and father is a wonderful host. It's only a shame mother came over ill and has had to lie down. She would so love to be involved here – gossiping and arranging who dances with whom next. I’m still surprised she hasn’t found suitable brides for my brothers with her matchmaking."
