Subject: A drink to cool her nerves.
Who: Delia Slater.
Where: A pub not far from the Slater home.
Warnings: TBA.
Open to: All.

Any normal young woman, after being in such an argument with their father, and especially those that were of the milkweed sort of stock, would probably be tearing up and begging to be consoled, perhaps even would be going back to father and apologizing. But Delia Slater was a different sort of woman. She did not cry, she did not wail and she certainly would not go back to her father as she thought he had lost his mind. Delia Slater got angry. The walk to the pub had been a short one, but in that time the anger towards her father and his whore grew and grew, causing her to seethe with it by the time the pint was placed in front of her. She had to have done something to him as they had never fought like that before, and had never gotten so personal when fighting before. This woman had to be removed or ended, she reasoned, then her father would see the truth of her. And Delia would not let her harm him, but for the moment she felt as if it served him right.

He deserved all the trouble his little ginger trollop gave him, especially after talking to her like that.

The fact that she had been followed annoyed her as well, but the boy had enough sense to stay well back from her once they were in the pub. He was the same one she had threatened to 'take my shiny knife and turn you into a woman, and to throw your cock to Harry Fisher's dogs' not a year ago. Since then he gave her space, until he decided to literally drag her back to her father. She was not going back this time, no matter what the boy said. She would not stay in that house with that woman while her father was still off his nut.

Drinking down one, she asked for another. Many believed that Slaters had a naturally high thresh hold to alcohol, and while that may have been true for her father and brother, Delia had been drinking for a very long time and could easily have a whole pint and just be a little buzzed. It had been a while since she had been drunk, and it truly wasn't her intention to get that way, but she felt like she needed the drink to clear her head.

Well, that was impressive. Paddy raised his eyebrow as Mary began rambling in French, and he had to admit, she sounded quite authentic. Not that he was an expert on the French, but he'd heard them every so often. There was the occasional French client at the theatre, and he'd listened to them on many occasions. "Classy girlie, you are," He quipped, chuckling to himself. "Alright, English it is."

He shuffled his feet a little and blew into his hands; his coat had really seen better days and the chill was beginning to get to him. Hopefully the outfits they were going to find would be better for keeping out the cold.

While she only knew a word or two of French, those words not the sort one said in polite society, she had no trouble slipping into the accent, and spoke with it when she finished. She needed to let herself become accustomed to speaking that way before she was truly tested. "Ah, but Mary always was the smart one, yes." she leaned over and kissed the shorter woman's temple.

"What were you thinking, mon cheri? Shall we find a brick? Or perhaps see how hard our new English cousin's head is?" she laughed lightly, holding tighter to Mary as they drew closer to the theatre.

Mary raised a brow at Paddy. "One does try, cousin." She felt the game filling in, taking over as they got closer to the start. This was going to be a memorable night. She tucked the arm not occupied by Delia into Paddy's. "Not to worry. We'll find you a nice gentlemanly cloak soon enough."

"But Delia's the clever one," she clarified with a smile. "Now, I don't think our dear cousin's head should be put to such use. We'll save that for later, and use the brick this time. The windows are low and the guard's gone to the taven for the night." She leaned her head on Delia's shoulder for a moment. "Lady D... Diane? Dominique? Elodie?"

Mary seemed to be the Nice One, so Paddy made a mental note to follow her lead. He was entranced by Delia, but he knew better than to run before he could walk. He'd work on Mary first. "Ooh, gentlemanly." He grinned, holding her arm in return. "I can do gentlemanly. Workin' around your brother, who seems to have 'gentlemanly' down to a fine art, one picks these things up." He slipped into his crisp English accent for the last phrase, chuckling to himself.

"Ah, you're both clever and smart and all those lovely things. That much is clear. Crackin' accent, Delia, impressive." He chewed his lip for a moment, tilting his head towards Mary. "Say, cousin, how does Lord Percy sound?" He liked Percy. Made him want to giggle. Just pompous enough.

Delia grumbled at the mention of Harry, but she did her best not to say a word. She adored Mary and did not want to upset her with her thoughts on her brother, besides, she would say something about how she had never met him and Delia would have nothing to say back. She let Mary take the lead for the time being, she had been in the theater before and knew how to get in better than she did. Usually it was hard to let someone else lead, but with Mary she had no issue, she loved Mary and trusted her with her life.

She and Paddy, or rather Dominique and her dear cousin Percy, stood well back, arm and arm as Mary made them a way in. She kissed his cheek and smiled, maintaining her French accent as she spoke, "Come, cousin Percy, it is time to get dressed."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Mademoiselle Dominique raised another fifty pounds, doing her best to ignore the gentleman pressed against her right side. He was trying to run his hand up her skirts and whispering into her ear filthy things that he wanted to do to her and what he wanted her to do to him, she smiled politely pretending not to completely understand him as she took a sip of her wine. She let him stay there, it made her look distracted and made it easier to hide her cheating.
With a quick glance to her left, she ran a finger along the bottom of her mask, signaling to her 'sister' and 'cousin' that the man to her left was starting to get desperate. He would keep raising the pot if they kept the pressure on him.
"Monsieur, I can assure you nothing of yours is up my skirts." she leaned back a little in her chair, pretending to pull away from his touch, and he responded as one would guess. He said something to the effect of 'would you like something to be', to which she giggled, lightly tapped him with her fan. "You must be kind to me, Monsieur, or else I shall have to have my dear English cousin after you."
Mademoiselle Marine raised worried eyes to the gentleman on her left. "I really do not know what I should do," she sighed. "This game, it is too strange." The man smiled and pressed closer to her to suggest a strategy and she smiled as if he'd done her a great favor. His clothes were long since askew and he recklessly shoved another handful of chips to the pot as Marine whispered her admiration for him.
"Oh, Dominique, these Englishmen do play so earnestly!" she laughed. She glanced at Paddy. They had already taken enough tonight to make them all happy for a while, but this set had Delia's attention and the man next to her was whispering about diamonds in her hair... she didn't thinke she had diamonds there but maybe he wanted to put them in? She knew she had a new set of diamond earrings, and lord only knew how much new jewelry Delia had after a night to their own devices.
On the other hand, she had no idea what time it was. The night was mostly lost in a haze of laughter, cards and alcohol. If it was even the same night. She and Delia had been known to lose track of time... "Oh, our dear cousin. Percy, I am ever so grateful you introduced us to your charming friends." She smiled at the man next to her again. He leaned over to Paddy with his own grin and slurred something about school chums and good stars and keeping hidden cousins about more often. Mary took the opportunity to touch her right hand to her mask. Card count said they could win this if they wanted.
