THE FUNERAL
Subject: Lord John Wexley IV's memorial.
Where: The Wexley family home.
Who: Daphne Wexley
Warnings: N/A
Open to: everyone who would have attended the funeral.

"...Lord John Oliver Wexley IV was buried today, but his spirit will live on in the rest of us... Amen.." finished the priest as he crossed the grave and then there was silence for a few moments. The first noise came from Lady Wexley, letting out a bellow of sobs that was obviously for show but no one would dare confront her about it. Daphne stood in between her brother, Johnny, and Daniel Perkins, trying her best to hold in any emotions that were fighting their way to the surface. Tears streamed down her face, but she made no noise, simply stared straight ahead and made eye contact with no one.

The party moved to the Wexley's family home where the guests were able to meet, discuss, and remember the passing of a very important man. Refreshments had been set up next to a rather large painting of John Wexley IV. Plenty of chairs and sofa's and places for people to sit and converse. Though, the object of the after party was to uplift the deceased and speak about him, but like any other party, everyone had their own objectives as to being there.

Daphne stood at the picture of her father, holding the glass of wine that Daniel had given her, not moving. She didn't to move, show emotion, talk, eat or drink. Knowing, though, that her mother was pretending to be completely beside herself, it was up to Daphne to be the hostess. Thank God for Johnny, though. He took up most of the duties himself.

"God bless you.. my.. you think you're allergic to something around here?" she looked around and saw some flowers, having them moved by one of the maids. "Perhaps that should be better for you," she smiled a little and bit her lip at the question about what happened to her first love. "Well.. he was arrested.. He was a Revolutionary, you see.. but he was from Boston.. Which was initially that attracted me to him.. but you didn't need to know that.." she was getting flustered and cleared her throat. "He was arrested and executed."

"Thank you so very much," Robert said, putting his handkerchief away with a little flourish. "Terrible allergy to flowers. So very sad. Always kept me from winning the hearts of my chosen maidens. No one wants a bouquet that includes the contents of their suitor's nostrils. Arrested was he? Are you sure he was executed?"

"That's terrible.. I am sure, though, you could have won their hearts another way without flowers being involved. Perhaps read them poetry or simply just woo them with pretty words," she suggested. It was hard to believe that this man had not snagged himself a woman. Talking about when Robert was arrested was strangly theraputic and she actually felt a weight lifted from her shoulders. She felt it was time to move on and the only way to do that was to talk about it, right? "Well, I wasn't there, if that's what you mean. But I was brought a list of Revolutionaries that had been captured and were executed at dawn. His name was on there."

"Are you sure about that?" Robert asked, feeling his way along. "REvolutionaries, you know, are now very much in favor- have been ever since Camille Desmoulins jumped up on a table and told us all the king planned to murder all of PAris. He's a celebrity now. It's hardly like the government could kill or imprison whoever they wanted after such a huge slap in the face with the takin gof the Bastille."

Would she be open to his newfound livliness?

Daphne wasn't in favor of the fact that Robert may be alive, not after 4 years of being out there - being someone like him and not seeing one sign that he was there. She had moved on, starting a new life and had found new love. And at any rate she was starting to get testy because of the trying day.

"I know about Camille Desmoulins, sir. I was there for 4 years and not once did I see a sign that he was alive. And if he was still alive, and he loved me the way he said he did, he would have found me. I know you didn't mean anything by suggesting he's still alive, but if he's dead, then he's still the romantic American I met in Paris. If he's alive then he's just a bloody great arse." Though her words were harsh, they were said with grace and emotion.
