Lady Gwendolyn hid her smile behind her hand, shoulders shaking slightly with laughter. After a moment, she was perfectly composed again and could pour out a cup of tea with only a lingering smile.
"I highly applaud your wit and your audacity, sir," Lady Gwendolyn murmured, stirring in sugar and handing over the cup. "You grow more intriguing by the minute. Would you care for some trifle or a tea cake? I believe we have scones still, if Mr. Burke did not get to them first."
