Toil OOC

Hi everyone!

Time both flew and dragged thanks to real world events during Toil, but it's hard to believe for me we're already at our closing date. As of this post Toil is officially closed, although the IC comm will remain open for the month of June for any epilogues people wish to write.

Thank you to everyone who brought their amazing characters and wrote with us! I personally had a lot of fun making people sad and getting my heart broken so I hope you all did as well! Thanks again for all the memories and lines, your inclusiveness and willingness to be positive throughout everything. You're all fantastic and I'm lucky to have gotten to write with everyone!

Also a big thank you to the demi-mod team for all you did and aided with — I absolutely couldn't have done it without you.

I'm sure I'll get to play with the lot of you again, so until I'm back at it with the torture ideas, be safe and keep well!

Hi everyone!

First off let me thank you all and state one more time how absolutely amazing this was. The sheer amount of brilliant writing that was put out continues to astound me! For the record, we had over 110 logs submitted for this in the 10 days we had to write the battle — and we still had events going on in the game the last two weeks. Thank you so much for making this a great success! Additionally a huge thank you to the demi mods for doing the plotting, formatting, and coordination of the BoH!

This post below the cut will give you some important dates going forward relating to Azkaban, muggleborns, DMLE interviews, and such! We don't expect any other mod-driven plots during the final two weeks so please use this time to wrap things up for your characters as you see fit and drop us an email if you need any help with anything, or have questions!

In the comments below there's some headings for people to state what their injuries are, whether their characters need to be found, and such! Characters with 1-4s are likely healed on the spot and can return home tonight. Characters with 5-6s will be in Mungo's for a night or three, and 7s depending solely on the injury. That's a loose framework, you can do what you'd like!

POSTING WILL OPEN AGAIN SATURDAY MORNING, NORTH AMERICAN TIME. This is just to give people more time to read the battle without worrying about people posting entries that possibly contain spoilers. Thank you so much for your patience!

As we're getting towards crunch time I'm just checking in with respect to the DA going to the Room of Requirement! Obviously, not every DA character needs to go especially if they've flown under the radar well or canon dictates they don't (Terry, for instance, is in the Great Hall the day the battle starts).

We're leaving this up to players to decide how their character gets to the point of going to the RoR -- is it an interrogation (Hannah will be going to the Room later this week after hers)? A bad detention? They've just broken? A knight jumped them? There are a lot of possibilities! If I can do anything or you need the Carrows to help facilitate your plot please let me know via an email to the mod account just so our team is on the same page.

after curfew tonight, a few members of the DA (seamus, terry, both patils, lavender, and anyone else who wants to join just say so in the comments!!) went to challenge the stocks in the great hall. they set it on fire using a lot of [complicated fire charms that seamus and padma taught them] and WATCHED IT ALIGHT while cackling satisfactorily (jk... unless?) and eventually the stocks exploded!

when everyone comes down to breakfast, they will find nothing but scorch marks and the smell of smoke~ in place of the stocks. YW HOGWARTS!!!

As the Carrows’ hold on Hogwarts grows tighter, we’re also approaching the battle, which as a reminder will take place on May 15/16. In the coming week, we’ll be posting a few entries to facilitate the planning process.

Before that, we want to share the timeline we’ve compiled for the battle which can be found here and use this post as a jumping off point to get people thinking about what they’d like to do. This is not the post to sign up for anything though! Those posts are forthcoming. But if you’re looking at this timeline and you’re stumped now is the time to reach out to one of us!

Hi all! Tracey Pansy came up with the idea of framing suspected DA members with fake evidence etc etc! Now that the Knights are going to be cracking down, please comment here if you're interested in having your character framed! It doesn't have to happen right away and it could be an impetus for getting your character to the Room!

As of dinner today the Carrows have put a spell on the Great Hall. All food will disappear when been taking out of this. Additionally anyone who is aware of where the kitchens are will find it locked down so there will be no entry, and all of the house elves are too terrified to speak to anyone.

Hi everyone! Just a couple things:

-Sunday night there's going to be a detention IC/OOC! However, I need to know who all has detention since there were a lot tossed out, but not dropped on the SA page. If you could comment here with who your characters gave detention to that would aid me greatly.

-Pcal coming tomorrow or Monday, but for the record there's a DADA IC/OOC on Monday which will be for the first Cruciatus lesson (this is not known ICly, but just as a head's up).

-Please make sure to check out Bronte's Neville post in the OOC comm just below this one if your Knight is able to crack down on Neville.

Hey all! With the Carrows ramping things up at Neville, and asking the Knights to do the same (to the point where he has to run to the room soon) I'd love to work stuff out with Knights to have them do things to/at/around/catch him doing something/whatever him. Whether that be logs, or just working out something they've done that either party could talk about, or whatever, I'd love to get it on screen in some way! So if you have a Knight and would like to have them put pressure on Neville in whatever way please comment or email or @ me so we can plot stuff out. Thank you!!

Hi. Just some Gregoria shenanigans today to report.

In the halls today in the morning Gregoria cursed Parvati's face pretty badly so that it was oozing stinging pus from her pores. This was pretty terrible! There was a rumour mill of course (but maybe it was broken telephone by then so who knows what was heard).

Then, at dinner today, Gregoria's eyebrows started to grow. And grow. And grow, and didn't stop until they were massive and she had trouble holding her head up. It was embarrassing and she had to go to the hospital wing in a rage. No one claimed responsibility!

Hi! Here's the plot calendar for the first two weeks of April. Thanks for your patience! We're going to do it in two week intervals just to help us adapt as necessary given all that's going on.

Here's a couple more timing notes:

The Spring Fling Dance has been moved back one week to April 18th. Pretend it's always been there! This is because we extended April/the game.

We anticipate planning and the start of battle logging to begin the May 1st weekend, two weeks out.

The game will end at the end of May giving two weeks to tie up loose ends. The comms will remain open for epilogues.

Just a quick note that the McHavelock Knockturn party was tonight! For those that were invited, Tommy and Hugh's dad was out but their siblings (Flo, Rory and Lucy) were also partying, and various Knockturn siblings were also invited! The McHavelock offices and dad's room was locked, but otherwise they had free reign of the house. Drinks were free until 11.

Also they forgot that it was Mandy's birthday yesterday so Tommy made a late announcement that this was actually Mandy's birthday party and presented her with a single cupcake. You're welcome Mandy!

quick q! does anyone want draco to remember seeing their name on the da list from fifth year? he saw it but i don't think he had the time to memorize every name on it lol. but if that's something you'd be interested in lmk! he'll probably try and use it as leverage after easter.

Hi!

Tonight the DA will strike out against the purist spy paintings and any eyes they see. At [ time ] after midnight, a coordinated, quick strike happens. The portraits are burned in a bonfire on the front lawn, and everyone is back in their dorms ASAP before the Carrows and Knights and everyone else can stir to mount a proper reaction. Due to increased locking measures after the Muggle Studies mural earlier in March, the Carrows classrooms can't be entered so alas, Cantankerus Nott and the Carrow Kid portraits will remain.

If the Gryffindors want to destroy Elizabeth Burke at the portrait hole, Ginny will stay back to let them back in. Imogen and Cal will be tasked with opening the door all Thursday for Gryffindors until a replacement portrait can be found (after Easter).

At breakfast the next morning Carrows are visibly pissed, but McGonagall, Flitwick, and Sprout seem more amused than they have in a long time. Seems the DA might have inspired the three beloved professors!

Just a note - thanks for your patience on the plot cal. It's in the works, it's just been a week and continues to be one. For general knowledge, Harry's Malfoy Manor thing will happen on Sunday night. Some of the retaliation will begin on Monday night (Ginny & the Weasleys getting run off).

Hi guys! Just a quick note here since it came up recently, and for information purposes going forward! Among Death Eater children we see the Knights of Walpurgis name as it relates to the origins of the DEs as not common knowledge except for those with close connections to the originals such as Dick and Theodore. Gregoria for instance has no idea!

This is just a note that the Patils' oldest sister (Diya, who is beautiful) has an engagement party this Sunday afternoon (April 5)!! It's just been mentioned a few times in game but lol we forget to mention it until now.. anyways it's at the Patils' house, the catering is organized by their mum, and the dress code is whatever you wear to an engagement party. The Patils WILL be in increasingly outrageously dressy clothes.

All pureblood families would've been invited, even purists, and prominent purist families who aren't PBs are also invited thx to their annoying purist brother Amrit. The most important thing about this is that Diya is marrying... a HALFBLOOD (Josiah Stebbins unless that's a name that's already been taken by an NPC!!) and it's very scandalous (to Amrit, to other purebloods prob) but they're ~IN LOVE~ so Parvati WILL kick your head off if you make a fuss about it.

Just some notes on timing here based on the results of the temperature check. Once again thank you for all the feedback and understanding through this stressful time!

Easter will stay the same as originally scheduled. That's going home this Friday, April 3rd, and returning on Tuesday April 7th.

The Battle of Hogwarts will move back two weeks to May 15th/16th. This will allow us to roll things out a little more slowly in April and give people more room between IC/OOCs.

So we're still processing the feedback we received on our temperature check survey, which we've really appreciated. Thank you so much!

One of pieces of feedback that has really stuck out to us is how we've been handling pairings. We'll be providing pairings for dueling club going forward. If there's ever a pairing you'd like to see for your characters for that, please don't hestiate to let us know. Dueling club is always on Tuesday night so please let us know by Monday at the latest, but keep in mind that pairings for that will always be chosen by the Carrows.

If you would like a pairing for DADA class, we're going to be screening comments on this post so comment below with whichever characters you need one for and how they've been doing/behaving in class. This will help us match your characters more efficiently. We'll be posting a seating chart for this class at some point in the coming week. We can also do the same for Muggle Studies if that's something you guys would be interested in!

All that said, we really appreciate your understanding during this strange time for all of us. We know that for some of us, fictionalized hardship can be a comfort during times like these and we really hope to provide that for you. However, we also understand the importance of needing to take a step back when things get to be too much. If there's anything we can provide in the game, even if it's just a meme or a round of log bingo (which we do have planned!), please let us know.

HI EVERYONE! Given that we didn't have an IC/OOC for the start of learning Imperius, I thought it would be good to do a quick ooc plotting post to establish a baseline for what happened! Did your character cry the whole time and fake trying to do it? Was your character ~surprisingly competent~ in a suspicious way that you want other people to have noticed? Did they try but just find it hard because it's super hard dark magic? Anything in between? Use this to let us all know and then have your characters gossip about it!

Lunch time today was when Amycus announced Dueling Club was mandatory for 7th years and they had to be at the meeting tonight. He didn't answer any questions from anyone if there were any. :)

No IC/OOC today since a ton just happened. In a short summary: Imperius Curse practice began on rats. The spell is extremely tough so if you don't have experience with it, it takes a lot of work and an earnest desire to control the animal.

Little Al and Little Amy provided daycare services and could be seen reading stories to the dolls located alongside the room -- and insulting the muggleborn ones.

Tonight at dinner two things will happen. One, detention notices:

Reporting to Amycus in DADA Class at 7 - Hannah, Susan, Terry, Michael, Seamus, Neville, Parvati, Ginny.
Reporting to Alecto in MS Class at 7 - Xander, Padma, Lavender, Megan, Allie, Liliwen, Hugh, and Winnie.

However the most important news is that Ernie is in a stockade on the dais where the professors sit. They've stuck his badge back on him for the whole time he's in there, and in fake blood have written "Blood traitor" across his forehead. No one is allowed to speak to him, sit with him, or approach him. Filch will be making sure of this, so simply don't try because it won't end well for anyone. He'll be in there overnight and well past lunch tomorrow, too. Happy evening everyone! :)

At breakfast today Alecto announced that Mr Bradley's presentation today is mandatory attendance. Yw! :)

Hi! In order to ramp up to the upcoming DA purge of the purist paintings we're putting this message up if you want to have your character (or a 6th year sibling) snitched on for inappropriate (ie, pro-muggle, anti-purist) conversations. We're just trying to make it a little more of a pressing issue! Please just drop us a line here about who got busted talking freely around a purist spy portrait. Thank you!

First time offenders won't face the worst punishments or anything, much like how they've been tailored in the past. And on that note, the detention groups will run on Sunday evening.

Hi friends, there's a canon plot point coming up for Michael and I wanted to extend the opportunity for others to get involved. It's about a month away, but if you have a 1st to 3rd year NPC that you would like to end up chained up and rescued by Michael mid-next month, please let me know here! We'd like to organise a little build-up. The only caveat is that the NPC will have to be inspired to take a stand against the Carrows.

Hi, everyone! As discussed at the last DA meeting, Thursday night, Rionach (with the help of Lavender and Parvati) painted a mural in the Muggle Studies classroom for today's (Friday's) class.

They were successful! They cracked the lock on the classroom door and, per Abby, the students were treated to:

The mural is enormous, taking up almost the entire wall of the classroom, painted in vivid colors that can't be missed. In fat, bright green letters, at the top of the mural are the words, "YOUR BLOOD IS NOT YOUR WORTH." Beneath those words are dozens of hands raising lit wands, a bit like at Dumbledore's funeral, and among those lit wands are various other phrases: YOU MATTER, YOU ARE STRONGER THAN YOU REALIZE, YOU ARE CAPABLE OF GREAT THINGS, and in the center, DON'T BELIEVE THEIR LIES. At the very bottom, in bright orange, are the words "DUMBLEDORE'S ARMY: STILL RECRUITING."

Lavender and Parvati were on hand to provide portrait distraction (They talked one of the portraits into drawing the Nott portrait out of the classroom by telling him they saw Theodore and Daphne making out. The other portraits prevented him from returning too soon), lookouts, and help when Rionach needed it!

Hi! Here's some basic information for the Knights. This will start on TUESDAY MARCH 10TH (moved back one day so it's not the same as a DADA IC/OOC) with the first group of students the Carrows will offer membership to. Please note that there are a lot of candidates for this, and it's inevitable that not everyone is going to be in the first grouping. This doesn't mean that the Carrows dislike your character or anything, we're just trying to space it out a little for ease. It will become much more extensive fairly quickly. This also allows Knights to recommend others for it, or people asking outright, or starting to feel like they're not at the head of the pack and need to try harder. The first group will be Araminta, Dalia, Domino, Draco, Evangeline, Gregoria, Nic, Theodore, and Tracey — they'll receive a journal entry on Tuesday to come visit the Carrows.

We're OOCly moving Easter to the first weekend of April. This is to stop it from cutting April in half and making it difficult narratively.

Hi! Today at dinner or thereabouts people would receive notices of their punishments for having items taken from the dorm raids. Since some of it depended on the Prefects, yes, there are definitely people that luckily got off! And also the Carrows are definitely playing favourites too, sorry!

Detention Saturday Night w/ Amycus: Seamus Finnigan, Michael Corner, Terry Boot, Tommy McHavelock. These were for having muggle items, but like with others etc it's severity will depend on lots of factors such as whether they're a repeat offender, how much they had, etc.

Detention Saturday Night w/ Filch: Hugh McHavelock, Winnie Fortescue, Gilbert Ollivander, Lee Bradley, Liliwen Bode. This was for all other contraband (drugs, porn, etc). It will be much more of a normal punishment.

Dick Avery will have his parents written about his muggle items.

Imogen Llewellyn and Darwin Pucey will get a lecture from Alecto on the journals whenever I (Michelle) post it this week.

The Slytherins for all other contraband didn't get punished and all things were returned to them thx to Araminta's request. Happy Carrowarts!

Hi! We have several announcements before we get to adds tonight!

Wizarding currency is a mess. We’ve made it so that 1 Galleon = 100 USD, 1 Sickle = 10 USD, 1 Knut = 1 USD. Yes, this is now base ten, and we did it because canon prices for things are all over the place so feel free to keep the price for a book or something realistic. You can still use “[ price ]” for things if you’d like!

Most students will not have/use galleons given their value. They also have wizarding debit cards from Gringotts, and can use a phone app to make purchases.

Given this, Hermione did not make Dumbledore’s Army enchanted galleons. She made them a Galleon App for their phones that functioned much like the coins did. With the internet shut-off they can’t contact the users in the outside world (Fred/George, Angelina, Cho, etc.)

Fourths will be available soon. Holds will open for them on Feb. 23rd, and the first adds will be March 1st. If you’re looking to apply for a fourth please email the mod account with your concept. We expect fourths to be different from the rest of your cast, and generally fill some of the game needs.

With that, the Wanted/Unwanted page (linked on the mod journal main nav) is now active. Feel free to post requests for your character’s lines on the page as well (ie, looking for a cousin).

CHARACTER INTRODUCTIONS

Due to a lot of chatter in the outside world about what's going on at Hogwarts the Carrows are cracking down. Here's what that means:

Starting Wednesday morning at 5 AM students will wake up to find that their Winternet doesn't work. Sending hexts to people outside the castle will fail, and they will simply not receive anything from people outside of the castle. Winternet sites such as Woogle will not load. Because it's ~Magic~, you can still hext people at Hogwarts so hexts to classmates are all good!

All parents/guardians etc. will be informed by the school on Wednesday that they are experiencing problems with their Winternet and the issue hasn't been determined. However, they can still contact students via owl post as always. :)

The Carrows, by use of magic, will be intercepting all owls. They will be magically altering letters that are unfavourable to them/the school/the agenda. What does that mean? If someone wrote 'I really hate Muggle Studies, it's full of propaganda!" it would be changed still looking like the sender's hand writing, to read something like such as 'I'm starting to really enjoy Muggle Studies'.

This means that the replies your characters will be receiving may not make sense to what they initially wrote. We encourage people to play with that! No one will know the Carrows are doing this at present, but it'll likely become more apparent as time goes on.

We have posted an owl dropbox for you to post letters. We'll post them for you in game with some coding to see what the changed wording was, and what it originally said. You don't have to do this, but if you're ever unsure if something would get out or not please don't hesitate to ask! They are not currently checking incoming mail, however.
