Welcome to the Saturday night on Risa

This evening, join your fellow travelers and crew for a private bonfire on the beach on Risa. Meet new arrivals, catch up with those you haven't seen in a few days, try a new drink, or just enjoy the spectacular weather.

Carol laughed. Danny did seem like an attractive guy, though she didn't think about him like that. She thought that the man sitting next to her was better looking.

She cracked open the cap of her beer and took a sip. "Yeah, I think I might," she replied. "Practicing again might help me get better. Honestly, I probably need to work on my center of gravity and take some measurements of the board. Then I'll be able to calculate the best place to stand."

Physics could come in handy in a sport like this.

"Ah, so you're going about it the smarter way," the brunette said, laughing. "I've been facing it with the philosophies, 'Hope for the best, expect the worst' and 'Try and try again.'" In the spirit of learning a new skill set, Solo tended to just throw himself into it and hope to catch on. Overthinking it hadn't lent any help to him.

Leaning back, he raised his beer to his lips and took another swig, though he found he was at the end of the bottle already. What was that? The second one for him now? He planted it down in the sand next to him and leaned back on his palms.

Peering over at Carol from under long eyelashes, he asked, "Any other plans for tonight?"

“No point in having a doctorate in physics if I don’t use it,” she said. Generally she calculated the blast impact of torpedoes, but basic physics ought to keep her on the board more often. Just a bit of calculation would probably have a big pay off.

Carol actually blushed a little at the way he asked about her other plans. “None in particular,” she replied with a shrug. “If you do, I can go find Jim or Uhura.” She didn’t want to take up his time if there was someone else he wanted to be with.

"Gorgeous and intelligent, you're a double threat, aren't you?" He never got beyond his undergraduate education, but that didn't stop him from admiring people who went beyond it. If his life had turned out differently, he might have continued his own education.

Watching the pretty way her face pinked up, he grinned. "No, sweetheart, I don't have any other plans. I was hoping to make some with you, though." He had no idea what her current romantic situation was, but that didn't stop him from trying.

Carol laughed a bit nervously. She wasn’t great at flirting, even if she did get a lot of men - and some women - who flirted with her. She always felt awkward, despite being conventionally pretty. Being a female scientist meant that she was more comfortable in a lab, working on fuses and wiring.

“May I ask you something that might be rather personal?” Carol waited for him to nod before continuing. “If there was a woman who was interested in you, and she wanted to sleep with you, is there any reason that you wouldn’t?”

Maybe asking another man about her situation would help clear some things up.

He was used to people easily falling for his charms and agreeing to dates, so he was caught a bit off guard by the nervousness and question. But he entertained it because he was curious now and Carol had been very nice since he had met her. If he could help her figure something out, he was more than willing to, since it came at no real cost to him.

"Well, if it would ruin a friendship or if there were other people involved, I'd certainly hesitate." And now thoughts of Gaby and Illya came to mind and their particular situation. It was eerie how this was a question he had to consider in his own life. "I'd want to be absolutely sure that if things don't go according to plan, that there was still a friendship or whatever the prior relationship was, to fall back on because chances are you didn't start off immediately as romantic interests."

She nodded at all of that, understanding what he meant, of course. Her situation was slightly different though. “What about if you were seeing someone, even if it was kind of casual, but you weren’t seeing anyone else? What reason do you think you might have for not having sex with that person - if you’ve got one.”

Men in this century were more aware of their feelings, but it was still very few men who would turn down a willing partner, especially in the form of a beautiful blonde coworker.

"It might mean you might not want to be exclusive with someone. Now sex doesn't mean exclusivity, but it does complicate things unless you've talked it out beforehand. Until you're on the same page, I wouldn't try having sex with anyone, regardless of whether it was casual or exclusive." He had a few firm rules and one was that he didn't get between the sheets with anyone unless they both knew what they were getting into.

"It could also mean that they're not sure about whether they want to continue the relationship or not, and not having sex makes for a cleaner break if they decide to not continue forward. It could lend to why it's casual, but honestly? It could be anything. You'd have to talk to the person involved to get a better idea," Napoleon said, smiling gently at her. "It's better than asking someone who doesn't have the same intimate knowledge the man in question might."

Carol exhaled slowly, gazing at the fire for a moment before nodding at Napoleon's words. Of course he was right in that she needed to take to Leonard. She was just kind of worried about the answer that she might get. In her mind, it would probably end up leading to them breaking off whatever they had.

"Yeah," she replied. "I think you answered my question anyway though. I guess men do actually turn down sex from time to time." Carol smiled slightly.

	"I hope I was able to help," Napoleon said, nodding at her. "And hopefully you'll be able to figure out what's going on with you and your beau. The uncertainty is always the hardest to deal with." Carol knew that Leonard could be, at best, cranky and didn't always make the best impression on people, so it was interesting to see other peoples' reactions when she mentioned that she and he were dating. 	Carol laughed a little. "Yeah, that's him. I know how to pick them, don't I?" She had seen behind all of his grumpiness though. There was a really great guy there. There was no denying that the doctor was a good looking example of a human being, but he didn't know if he could put up with all that grumpiness. More power to Carol if she could. 	Her laugh was even louder at that. "Yeah, well... I guess I do. He's sweet to me. The only problem is whether or not he actually wants a relationship." His divorce had been ugly, but Carol would like to think that she was different from his ex-wife. She thought maybe that Leonard was ready to try again, but perhaps she was wrong.
