WHO: Carol Marcus and Howard Stark
WHEN: 226410.25
WHERE: Weaponry
SUMMARY: Giving Howard a tour of the weapons bay. Log challenge - prompt: I don't think so
WARNINGS: Probably none.

In Carol's opinion, this was probably a bad idea. Howard Stark, tinkerer extraordinaire, really did not need a tour of the weapons bay. While she had made it perfectly clear that he wasn't going to touch anything, she was still wary. He liked to experiment. Carol saw nothing wrong with experimentation, but when doing so with explosives, the experiment needed to take place in a controlled lab with the proper precautions. It certainly couldn't take place on a Starship. One mistake could mean blowing all of them out into the black.

Carol met him at the entrance, where he looked like a kid about to go into a candy shop. "Mr. Stark," she said with a half smile. "I hope this will be enlightening for you."

He got an eyeroll, but it was good-natured at least. Carol didn't dislike him. She just thought he was a bit ridiculous with his flirting. If he went too far, she'd kindly remind him that he had a girlfriend.

"The only rule is that you can't touch anything unless I tell you that it's alright. Understood?"

He would take the eyeroll. It was progress, at least. Howard knew he'd come on far too hot and heavy when he'd first arrived on the Enterprise and he was trying to make up for that and gain Carol's trust- that he knew what he was doing and could be trusted with the better toys.

He held his hands up for a moment, fingers splayed to show there was nothing in them. "You're the boss here. Completely understood."

Her lips quirked into a smile at that. In this area of the ship, she was the boss. Sometimes she forgot that. In any case, she was an expert, and while Howard was a genius for his time, Carol was pretty aware that these innovations were 300 years after his time. What he had worked with was archaic.

She led him over to the table where she did some more of the minute work. Carol was generally not an engineer, and usually designed and studied more than she actually built, though she was aware that building was part of the work.

"Here I've been working on wiring in one of the long range missiles," she said, indicating to what looked like a canister with the side cracked open. Dozens of wires of different colors were visible through the gap. "I don't work on anything live of course, at least not on the ship."

"Of course not, that would be incredibly dangerous." Live munitions in an enclosed space like this? That would be just asking for trouble. Even he wasn't stupid enough to take that sort of risk.

He leaned over to peer into the canister, trying to see the wiring harness while keeping his hands clasped behind his back. "When you say long range, how long are we talking here?" Because long range in his day meant a few hundred yards, and even then, it wasn't terribly accurate. He couldn't imagine that Carol's "long range" was the same.

Well, at least he wasn't crazy. That earned him some points. Carol might actually let him touch things later. Seeing him with his hands behind his back like a choirboy was very amusing to her.

"Interplanetary," she replied. "These are within 50 lightyears, but some are within 100. Are you familiar with global positioning technology?" It didn't exist in his time, but perhaps he'd done some reading.
