Carol raised an eyebrow at him. "Probably better to ask you than to ask a Fornaxian." She didn't want to insult them. Regardless of whatever it was, it tasted pretty good, so she put another few pieces on her plate. "How are you tonight, Lieutenant Reed?"

"You might get an answer," he pointed out, taking some of the hors d'oeuvres and popping on in his mouth.

"Oh, fine. Trip has had worse luck with desert environments than I have."

"What does that mean?" she asked. Carol herself wasn't too fond of deserts. She really was a British girl at heart. Give her some cool rain and she'd be happy.

"Near death experiences," he replied quickly. Although necessarily well-travelled thanks to being a navy brat, desert wasn't his scene either. He'd just never been nearly killed.

Carol raised her eyebrows and nodded. "I imagine that would make a person not want to go back," she said. Being in Starfleet was dangerous sometimes. All of the stuff with Khan had been frightening, particularly watching him kill her father with his bare hands.

"So he says, but he's made it here anyway," he pointed him out. "Bullheadedness gets you far in this game."

"I suppose he can simply keep to the urban areas and not go out into the more remote desert areas," Carol said. That way he'd be less likely to get lost and face death, if that was what had happened in the first place. Some of these desert planets were no joke.

He suppressed a sigh. "Don't worry about it, he's fine," he pointed out, not having wanted to make Trip seem like he needed rescuing, even hypothetically.
