Mary never thought she would feel out of place at a social function, but this was so far from what she was used to that it made her feel a little uncomfortable. Incidentally, she ended up missing Howard. He naturally had a way of making her feel confident and beautiful.

She was dressed up that night in a gown that the recalled her time period. The Fornaxians seemed interested in it because it was so different from what most of the Starfleet members wore. At least it gave her a chance to talk to them. Mary found them to be an interesting and cultured people.

After dinner, she lingered by the dance floor. She'd always loved dancing, though coming here without an official partner meant that she was stuck looking for one. Would any of these men from the future even know how to dance properly? Somehow she doubted it, but she was still hopeful to try.
