WHO: Betty Ross and Bruce Banner
WHEN: recently
WHERE: his room
WHAT: they meet... again and again and again
WARNINGS: none, maybe mentions of violence bc of Hulk
STATUS: comm, in progress

______________

Betty sat next to Bruce on his bed. They were at the end, sitting as far away from each other as you can at the end of a one-person bed. She had on slip-on shoes, and she kept slipping her left foot in and out of the shoe. She fiddled with her fingernails.

"They told me I was here before. I'm... I'm sorry. Did we make progress?"

She was nervous. She never stopped looking for him. She was on to something, with one of her father's subordinates, Talbot, feeding her information. She was going to board a plane and search the jungle if she had to.

Besides that, she was a skipped record. Not only had she been here before, but he was from another time. He didn't know about the Civil War between the Iron Man and Capsicle.

She didn't get it. She likely never would. "I'm not in charge of you, but there are times I'm not in charge of me, either. Don't you realize what it would do to me if anything happened to you?" Sighing, he shook his head. His beautiful and brave, not to mention stubborn, Betty wasn't likely to let him off that easily.

Still, she'd squeezed his hand and it was more comfort than she knew. "No," he admitted, smiling a bit sheepishly. "And I've spoken to the Enterprise staff. They all know and we have some backup plans in place." Frankly, as volatile as things had gotten between he and Natasha, he'd rather save a lullaby as a last resort. He wasn't entirely certain the Other Guy would be receptive at the moment.

"He recognizes me now. You saved me when my father was being careless trying to capture you." Betty stared down the Hulk with no fear. She knew Bruce was in there, and that he would remember her.

"Backup plans? Well, I'm here now, that's something, right? I can keep you calm and if you do break out, I can talk you down."

"He recognized you once," Bruce argued, though there was no real fight in his voice. "That doesn't mean it will happen every time. Believe me, I'd like it to." The Other Guy didn't hurt people He liked. He'd even gone out of his way to save lives. Maybe there was still some hope to be had.

"That doesn't always work," Bruce pointed out calmly. "But yes. You being here will help immensely." She'd been following him since he'd left. That didn't mean she knew him. Either one of him.

"I talked you down from it once. And if you tell me some of your triggers-- well I already know you pretty well, but things have changed over the years," she didn't mean to sound rude, but it kind of did. "I can help you stay away from them. It'll be like babysitting only ... not? Wow, that sounds bad. It wouldn't be like babysitting."
