Welcome to the Deck 5 Lounge

Poe rather enjoyed these gatherings now. It was a chance to meet new people and take his mind off of the things happening at the moment, such as Kylo Ren and Vadar arriving. It was certainly a different life and he certainly missed the missions and flying. However now he was undertaking pilot training here it gave him a little more focus.

Getting a drink he moved to the window and smiled as he looked out at the stars, he would never get tired of that view. They may be different stars but they were beautiful nonetheless.

As always, the first place Jaina went after she got a drink was to stand by the window. Even though they were on a starship and she still had the entire universe in front of her, it wasn't the same. She missed flying, she missed her squadron, she missed being among the stars, simply looking at them wasn't enough.

She'd been standing there for a few moments, sipping her drink, when she felt someon approach and she looked up. Jaina knew who Poe was, she'd seen him around but they'd never spoken. From what she knew of him, she figured that if anyone could understand how she felt about not flying, it would be him. "Hi," she said with a smile. "the view never gets old does it?"

Poe looked at the woman when she spoke and smiled, "Nope never does" he agreed pausing for a moment before adding, "I have to admit I miss being out there, it's an amazing feeling. I've not found much that beats it"

Flying was so much a part of Poe that he knew if he didn't get out there at some point he really would go crazy. He needed to fly like others needed to eat, it was an essential ingredient in what made him. His mother had ensured that.

She well understood the sentiment. Flying was as natural as breathing to her, perhaps even more so. "I've found that sometimes flying is the only thing in my life that makes sense," she said softly and then glanced at her companion. "somethng tells me you know how that feels too." It didn't take her Jedi senses to tell her that, she recognized the look in his eyes. She'd certainly seen it in the mirror often enough.

"I'm Jaina Solo," she said. "I didn't even think to tell you my name. I ahould probably warn you though that I could talk about flying for hours so be prepared." Jaina similed.

"I definitely know how that feels" Poe told her, there was nothing as incredible as being part of the vastness that was space. Everything was just incredible out there and Poe felt connected to it every time he flew.

"Oh, you're Leia's daughter? The one from a different timeline" he felt he somehow should have known that. "I'm Poe Dameron and honestly I wouldn't mind listening to you for hours and I can't imagine a better subject"

"That's me. In my world, my parents are still together and my mom does liason work for the government so that's a little different although I could easily imagine her being a general." Jaina laughed. Her mother had run a Rebellion when she was a teenager, been Head of STate when Jaina was a baby and then helped with the refugees during the way with the Yuuzhan Vong. The fact that she was a general in another timline wasn't much of a stretch.

It took a moment for the name to sink in and when it did, Jaina raised an eyebrow. "You're Poe Dameron? Rey is one of my roommates. She told me her story, about who her parents are." Jaina took a sip of her drink, trying to figure out what to say but then she looked at Poe an rasied her glass. "but you and I aren't related in any timeline so you can tell me some of your flying adventures and I can tell you some of mine and it won't be weird or illegal."

"She makes an incredible general" Poe told her, there was a little hero worship there he couldn't deny it. He has a lot of respect for Leia, which hadn't dimmed even after finding out about her affair with his father. She was still a woman after all and he'd thought of her as a mother figure anyway she just now happened to be the actual mother of his half-sister. His family tree had just gotten a lot more complicated.

"Not being weird or illegal sounds good to me" he grinned at her, "It's getting harder to keep track of who is related to who around here. Another reason I like flying, it hardly ever throws up too many complications"

Jaina laughed. "Yes it is a little hard to keep track, isn't it? Although at least the version of my mother here looks like the mother I remember at home so that's not so strange. We're still working through the whole getting to know each other thing. Now my Uncle Luke? Looks completely different and from what I understand he's been living alone for some time. I haven't had the chance to talk to him very much since I've been here." The idea of her uncle living such a solitary life bothered Jaina. It was completely different from the Luke she knew who was a man who had been without a family for many years and would never dream of disappearing without a word to any of them.

"Have you looked into any of the classes they offer about flying their ships?" she asked. "I didn't even know they existed until my dad mentioned them. He got caught in a lift on his way back from class during the Red Alert. I think I might look into that."

Poe was generally an easy going guy but all this talk of alternate realities and timelines gave him a headache so he tried not to think about it too much. "Yeah, disappeared in my time line a long time ago. Leia's been looking for him ever since really" There had been numerous missions he'd been sent on because it might lead to a clue about where Luke had gone.

"Yeah, I'm signed up to learn. I figure it shouldn't take too long to fly whatever they have here" he smiled at her, "Maybe we'll end up learning together"

She could easily imagine that. The mother she knew souldn't have stopped looking until she found him and it seemed that the two versions of Leia had that in common. Jaina was more than happy to talk about flying when he mentioned the two of them learning together and she grinned at his words.

"I think that would be fun although I might be able to outfly you, you have no idea," she took a sip of her drink, watching him over the edge of the glass. He was cute, she'd noticed that when he'd walked up to her and she had a feeling he ewas a damn good pilot. "This could be fun."

She laughed and raised an eyebrow at him. "Yep. I never make a claim that I can't back up. And I was the youngest person ever asked to join Rogue Squadron when I was sixteen so that's not too shabby."

Jaina clinked her glass to his. "To fun," she repeated. "Now all we have to do is figure out how to fly those shuttles down in the landing bay and see what we can do."

"Well I enjoy a challenge," she said, her eyes dancing. "and I believe that you'll be one too. This is going to be fun as soon as we can figure out how we're going to manage it without Captain Kirk throwing us in the brig." Although it might be worth it to be able to fly for a bit even if they didn't get very far.

"Anything?" she said. "Define anything. What all have you flown. You've got me curious."

"A TIE fighter? Really?" Jaina's ears perked up. "I've flown a modified TIE that was built for racing but not one that was equipped for battle. Since we're from two different timelines and the Empire wasn't around anymore, I'm betting that the TIEs you've got are probably different from ours."

She would love to actually see what some of the ships in Poe's world looked liked but that was impossible. Hearing him talk about them was good enough though. She would take what she could get.

"Probably. They can move I'll tell you that. It's got incredible acceleration and manoeuvrability, if the pilots were half decent I'd be worried but thankfully they aren't anywhere near the level of skill we have" Poe said honestly, a few TIE fighters in the hands of the resistance could certainly do some damage.

He told her about the controls and the differences between them and the X Wing he usually piloted. Poe was very much enjoying the chance to speak pilot and have somebody not only listen but actually enjoy listening.

"Well you know there was always a joke that the Stormtroopers couldn't hit anything," she laughed. "I never faced a TIE and the one I flew was modified but I'd love to see one that was in prime working condition." She was sure she could fly it, she could fly anything after all. She got that from her father.

"The strangest thing I ever had to fight was a Coral Skipper. The Yuuzhan Vong had them and they were essentially living ships. The Vong don't believe in technology, all their weapons are natural, living things. The ships are grown from a certain type of coral and the pilots are part of that." she shuddered. "They can adapt really fast and they have no presence in the Force. I figured out that they were using gravity wells to fight us and we couldn't see them coming until they hit us, that was the only way we were able to beat them."
