On discovering I was in space. And, not actually stranded on a planet this time. I was actually quite excited. It does seem to be decidedly less fun when you can't explore the rest of the ship.

Still, now I've gotten over the shock. I should probably introduce myself. I'm Dr. Jemma Simmons. I specialise in Biochemistry. I already applied to join Sciences training. And, look forward to joining that properly once this crisis is over.

I don't suppose there is anything I could do to help with that, at all?

Starships are a new one on me, 21st Century, and all. So, I never intentionally got quite as far as all that. Until now, anyway.

It's nice to be able to go places though isn't it? I know I've done so much more than I would have if I'd just been stuck in the lab the whole time.

Intentionally? Sounds like a story there.

Though I do like a good lab too.

Not one I'd really care to relive. It was a traumatic experience.

You need a nice mix really, don't you?

A good mix is crucial. Though I had to adapt Starfleet technology to work in Cardassian systems with Bajoran modifications and that was [...] interesting.

I can only imagine. I've worked on some techology from other worlds. But, not to that extent.

For most species in our galaxy there was a general convergent evolution in both biology and technology. So with some adaptation most systems can interact and many species can interbreed.

It's always fun seeing how someone else came up with their solutions though.

Some of the technology I've come across is far far different. But then, those civilisations are much more advanced than our own. So much so, that some of their abilities almost seem like magic. But, you can say that about any sort of technology that is advanced enough.

There's a species that built a stable wormhole capable of taking you fifty thousand light years away in a few moments.

The Bajorans view them as prophets, as their gods. They exist outside of linear time, and had a hard time understanding how linear time even worked. To them, all time is happening at once.

Certainly could be magic to a lot of people, considering they've made more than one invasion fleet disappear.

Have you ever heard of the Norse Gods of Earth? In my world, these gods are actually a race called Asgardians. That have, unusual abilities. Including the ability to create illusions, or control the weather.

It's fascinating to see how such things can result in advanced races being worshipped.

I've seen it even with Starfleet. It's usually an accident of course. There are rules and regulations. But it happens sometimes.

And we have record of it happening on earth. The Greek and Roman gods, the Mayan god Kukulkan, numerous others.
