WHO: Peggy Carter & Kate Beckett
WHEN: Earlier this week.
WHERE: A bar on Yorktown.
SUMMARY: Drinks & conversation.
WARNINGS: None as of yet.

Peggy was very glad for the opportunity to slip away from her duties and worrying about how all of the travelers were doing and who might come in next. She even left her PADD back on board the Enterprise, trusting in her new recruits to take care of any issues that came up. And then she met Kate Beckett near a bar on the station so that the two of them could find a quiet corner, order a glass of wine, and chat.

Once she had a glass of wine in hand - a sparkling pink wine that the waitress who had taken their drinks orders had recommended when Peggy asked for something both fruity and dry. It was apparently from a planet called Risa, which Peggy had read about in her research but hadn't given much thought to. A pleasure planet or something. She took a sip and smiled across at Kate. "How's Mr. Castle settling in? He seems very - excitable - every time I talk to him."

Peggy sometimes wondered if someone with a better knowledge of all of these fictional universes would be better off heading up the liaison program and integrating people to their new futures here. But at the same time, she thought maybe that would be too overwhelming. "Yes, I read a few science fiction novels," she said. "And yet it was still a little out of my realm of possibilities."

She nodded. "Yes. As are a few others. At least now I can take a break now and again."

"Did you really?" Kate asked, clearly amused and interested to hear about this. "Anything particular?"

Knowing what she did of history, Kate figured it would be about 15 years beyond Peggy's time when the idea of some of the stuff presented in novels could seem possible. The space race, Neil Armstrong walking on the moon, none of that had happened yet - and while Kate had missed that, she did remember the Challenger explosion and how all the adults in her world had been horrified. Of course, being a child, she hadn't understood what it all meant until later.

"They really shouldn't have expected you to take it all on by yourself in the first place," she said, "That's a tough task for anyone."

"Jules Verne, H.G. Wells, the, well, classics, I suppose you could call them." Peggy ran her fingertip along the edge of the table and shook her head slightly. "Books that seemed so foreign and otherworldly. And then I end up here, and this is more otherwordly than anything I've ever read." She smiled.

"Well, no one was doing anything about the new arrivals, were they? And there was no crew assigned the task either. Someone had to step up. I don't mind. It'd rather be busy than not."
