Shepherd Book wasn't one for alcohol, but he definitely saw the benefit of socialization with other travelers. It gave him a chance to interact with other people (and to keep an eye on Lucifer - whom he was slightly worried about). He sat at the bar with a nonalcoholic drink and waited to see who came by tonight.

It was always fortunate when she had Saturday evenings off. Although she was still learning about human customs, she was fond of sampling the alcohol at the lounge. The travelers were always changing. She sipped a blue drink and looked up when someone sat down next to her.

Illya couldn't help but think to himself that he hadn't drank this much alcohol in years. He was always either in training or on a mission and he had to keep his physical and mental capacities in top condition. Being on the ship though meant that there were no missions, and not much to do at all, really. Therefore, his drinking had become more frequent. He never got drunk - it was pretty hard to get a man his size drunk anyway - but he was much more apt to allow himself a drink now than he was before coming to the Enterprise.

He sat down next to a strange looking woman whom he knew was part of the crew. Some kind of alien. Worked in engineering. Illya nodded at her when she looked up at him, then ordered a vodka straight.

[ooc: I really wanted them to meet because I think they'd interact hilariously. Also I want her to introduce him to her angry music, because he needs that in his life.]

Jaylah looked at the person who sat next to her. She didn't recognize him, but that didn't mean much. She knew the crew, which was more important, and a hanful of travelers - mainly those in Engineering or who interacted with Kitty.

"I do not know you." She said plainly. "I am Jaylah."

"I am Illya," he replied simply enough. His vodka came and he took a sip before turning back to the other woman. "If you do not mind me asking, what is the name of your species?"

In that moment, Illya hoped to God that she actually was some type of alien species and not some form of evolved human.

"I do not know what the Terrans call us. And I never met anyone else of my species besides my family." She took a sip of her drink as she studied him.

"You are one of the travelers, yes? What do you do?"

That seemed kind of odd to Illya, that the only people like her that she would have ever met were her own family. In a way, that must make life kind of lonely. He could sort of relate.

"Here I work with security." That was where he had seen Jaylah, on his rounds. "Back home, I work for an organization in the Soviet Union called Komitet gosudarstvennoy bezopasnosti, or KGB in English. I am a spy."

That was weird for him to admit so freely here, as back home doing so to the wrong person could have easily cost him his life.

She knew well enough what a spy was. That had been covered at the Academy. But she didn't know anyone who would admit it. Weren't spies supposed to be secretive?

"If you are spy before how does Jim know he can trust you here?" she asked, taking another sip of her drink. "If you are admit to lying once, then you might be lying again."

This woman asked straightforward questions. Illya actually liked that. No bullshit to cut through. He downed a bit more of his vodka.

"I am not a spy here. The organization I worked for, I do not even think it exists in this time. I have no reason to lie." He swirled the clear liquid in his glass for a moment before posing this question. "If someone lies once, is that a reason to never trust him again?"

Carol and Jim
[info]torpedoed
2018-01-07 06:26 pm UTC (link)
Carol sat at the bar, nursing a beer. The past week, since Troi had come on board, the general mood on board the Enterprise had been tense. While she was probably supposed to be cooperating with him, she couldn't help but feel sorry for the travelers, who seemed to be worried about him and his intentions. Frankly, her own worries were in line with theirs. The travelers hadn't done anything wrong, and for the most part they were good people. She didn't want to see them subjected to needless interrogation.

She glanced up when she noticed someone sit down at the bar next to her, only to notice that it was Jim. There was a tiny flutter in her stomach that she fought down. Ugh. No need for that. Especially not after the tense way their last conversation ended.

"Captain," she said plainly.

Jim turned and grinned at Carol. "Dr. Marcus," he greeted, his smile widening. "Fancy meeting you here," he joked. "You know, the place where we all end up at some point or another." Though, and he regarded her curiously for a moment - "I am actually surprised to find you here. Isn't working until you fall asleep more your MO?"

Carol turned to him, a sharp look in her eye. "Really, Jim?" she said. "That's how you want to start off tonight?"

Was insulting her his way of flirting? Possibly. Better to not get any sort of hopes up though. Not that she really wanted him to flirt with her anyway. He'd made it clear that he was her superior officer and that he wasn't interested in her in that way. For some reason that made her feel hollow.

"God forbid you have crew members who actually like their jobs."

How he was going to start off tonight? He raised an eyebrow. "Relax, Carol, I was teasing you. How much have you had to drink already tonight?" To be that defensive, to take offense to his teasing. He shrugged. "Honestly, I'm glad you like your job, I just think you would do it even better if you weren't overtaxing yourself." He motioned for a bartender and ordered himself a beer as well.

"Just this," she replied. She wasn't drunk, just irritated with him and how she felt about him, and was taking everything personally. "What else do I have to do except my job?" Carol asked before taking another drink. It's not like she had Leonard to worry about anymore. She didn't even have Napoleon to worry about, though she was glad that he was happy with his girl.

Carol brushed a piece of hair behind her ear and sighed. Being mad at him was childish. He hadn't done anything wrong, even if she hadn't perceived his comment as joking. "I'm sorry that I told you off when we first met."

He turned to the side and crossed an arm over her chest. "Everyone on this ship gets free time for a reason, Carol. You could spend some time in the holodeck, do some reading, meet up with friends, get to know the travelers, exercise in the rec room, should I go on?"

Carol rubbed her forehead between her eyes for a moment. "I do those things as well, Jim. I'm promise I'm not entirely a workaholic." She had friends, wasn't a total invalid. Honestly, the work made her happy though. It made her feel as though she was contributing to society, maybe helping to correct some of the horror that her father than inflicted upon it.

She glanced up, waiting to see if he would say anything about her apology. When he didn't, Carol furrowed her brow. "So.. apology not accepted or what?"

"Apology accepted," he told her, brushing it off. He might have been teasing her about it but he had otherwise put it mostly out of his mind. "I just want to make sure you aren't overdoing it, Carol, that's all."

What better place to start talking to the travelers, Commander Troi thought, than their regular gathering in the lounge. It was nicer than any rec room Declan was used to on board a starship, and he suspected that had something to do with Lucifer Morningstar, who he saw noted had been placed in charge as a manager. Not one to drink while working (and here on the Enterprise, Declan considered that he was always working), he ordered an ice water and made his way about the room.

"Ice water?" Lucifer asked, approaching the newest Starfleet member aboard the ship. "Don't tell me that you're one of those all work, no pleasure sorts, Commander?"

That would be a total waste, Lucifer thought, as he took in Declan's full appearance. "I could get you something else to drink?"

Declan turned and took in Lucifer, glancing up at him considering he was taller by a good few inches. He shook his head. "Of course not," he told him. "I know when there's a time and a place for both, especially pleasure. It's just that here, this mission and research is important, isn't it? One could argue life or death even, and considering that one of the lives is yours, I would think you'd want me to be working all the time." Which was also his way of declining a different drink.

Lucifer shrugged, and took a sip of his own drink. "No one should be working all the time," he mentioned. "It's simply not healthy, Commander."

As to his own life, he wasn't too concerned, given his own immortality. There were, however, people on this ship he cared about which was surprisingly unselfish of him to consider, and that caught him slightly off guard. "Life and death, huh? We're not all about to die are we? Though if we are, that would be even more reason to give into pleasure now."

Troi technically wasn't a traveler or crew member on the ship, thus he was outside the realms of Lucifer's self-imposed rules.

"Believe me, I know what's healthy and what isn't." He realized he had chosen the wrong wording. "Death probably wasn't the best word choice there. No one's going to die, no, but life here or life where you belong, I suppose, would be a better why of looking at it. Tell me, Mr. Morningstar, what do you miss from where you're from?"

"The Detective," Lucifer answered, not bothering to explain himself. "Maze is here, but Dr. Linda, Ms. Lopez, even Detective Douche." He shrugged. "I'm still back there, though, so it's almost the best of both worlds now, isn't it?"

After the latest round of departures Daisy had taken to drinking more than would be considered healthy again. She'd put her trust in her friends to keep her out of trouble but there was a part of her that just wanted to get into trouble. She wanted to do things that were stupid, she had lost more people and so she was doing what she could to not feel so helpless again. It wouldn't work but at least she'd have some fun or at least that was the plan.

She was sat at the bar with a rather large drink in front of her. She couldn't even remember what she'd ordered, she just knew it was strong and that was what she wanted right now.
