WHO: The Devil and Lady Mary
WHEN: 226403.26, morning
WHERE: Her room, D-18
SUMMARY: The logical conclusion of this. Mary wakes up with Lucifer in her bed. All hell probably breaks loose.
WARNINGS: None really

It was a good thing that there was no natural sunlight on board the Enterprise, though there was a light in the room that grew stronger as the sleep cycle came to an end. Mary was groggy and she could feel a migraine brewing in her temple. The light was too bright. She moaned and rolled over.

She snuggled into the warm mass next to her, the fact that there shouldn't be a warm mass there not even dawning on her. It felt good to be cuddled up against it. Mary was still too tired to think straight and she didn't want to open her eyes because of that damn light, so for now she was content to lie quietly.

Somewhere, in the middle of the night, Lucifer had found a way to get out of his shirt as having an unexpected companion in an unexpected bed was definitely a warmer experience than normal. So now he was resting comfortably when Mary stirred. He grinned, expecting a reaction in three... two... one...

Or not. Instead she merely snuggled up closer to him. Boring. Lucifer was eager to get the fireworks started. "Morning, Sunshine!" he said cheerfully. "Even if there's no sun to be found." She stirred again, and he started his countdown over.

That voice. Something was not right about the sound of it. It took Mary only a moment more before her eyes shot open and she scrambled away from him.

"Lucifer!" To her, with the sheet covering his lower half, it looked like he was naked. The shock of him in her bed was only eclipsed by the horror that they might have...

"Oh God!" She cried. "No. No!" Looking down at herself, she was relieved to find herself dressed in her underwear, though still felt quite confused.

"Would you please leave him out of this particular conversation," Lucifer sighed, sitting up slightly. He glanced at Mary, and then laughed at the expression on her face. "Oh bloody hell, you really think I was going to take advantage of you while you were drunk?"

"You are the Devil!" She said to him, meaning that in so many ways. Mary tried to move to get out of bed, but then realized that she was in her underwear and clutched the sheet to her chest. Pieces of the night before were starting to fit back together for her. Lots of gin. Him asking her a very personal question that she felt compelled to answer. Giggling. Him bringing her back here. Details were still hazy.

"Why did you stay here with me?" Being this angry was not doing wonderful things for her migraine.

"I am," he agreed, "And I stayed here because you fell asleep on me, all the while talking about how wonderful and dreamy Captain Kirk is. So thank you, for that," he teased.

Mary furrowed her brow at him as she scooted to the edge of the bed, trying to put space between them. "What are you talking about?" Even as she said it, it was coming back in bits and pieces. Oh God, she had talked about Kirk. Mary could feel her cheeks burning.

"Oh just how you declared at the lounge that you wanted to see the captain and wasn't he handsome?" Lucifer teased, but he could tell from sudden crimsoning of her face that she remembered.

"Relax," he said. "I got you out of there, brought you back here, and you even told me I was kind of handsome too as sort of a consolation prize for being here but not being the captain."

"Just because I said he was handsome didn't mean I wanted him in my bed," she shot back. "Or you for that matter." How completely mortifying. Apparently she had cuddled with him during the night. That was how she was when she got drunk. Why she had she let herself get drunk in public? Everyone must think she was some sort of lush now.

"Oh, you most definitely wanted me in your bed last night," Lucifer replied. He flashed her a smile, before turning in the other direction, searching for his shirt. In doing so, he left his back exposed, his scars plainly visible. Where was that bloody shirt? Oh. There it was. Somehow near the foot of the bed, forcing him to stretch to reach it.

"Whatever I said while drunk doesn't count," she said vehemently, not knowing whether to scream at him or cry. Mary was so angry at him, even if any ruination of her reputation was her own doing. How could a man be simultaneously infuriating and likeable?

When he reached to get his shirt, Mary couldn't help but notice the scars on his back. "What happened to your back?" She asked, curiosity getting the best of her.

"On the contrary, there's a reason they call alcohol liquid courage," Lucifer replied. But he tensed, if only slightly, as she asked about his scars.

Keeping his back turned toward her, he answered, "That's where I had Maze cut off my wings. When I decided once and for all I was done being my father's pawn. When I was done being the devil." He might still refer to himself as such, but that was his identity for so long how could he not?

Quickly pulling his shirt on, he turned back toward Mary. "I burned them, later on, severing my ties to hell."

"Oh," she said quietly. That was sobering. Mary went through such a range of emotions with this man. She could literally hate him one minute and then feel sorry for him the next. How did the detective put up with him?

Sometimes she still couldn't tell if he was trying to repent or if he truly liked riling her up. Did he really have good motives at heart?

Mary sat up slowly, letting the sheet fall down to her waist. She wrapped her arms around Lucifer's chest from behind and rested her head on his shoulder. As much as she hated to admit it, he was good for cuddling.

Now it was Lucifer's turn to be confused. "What's this for?" he asked, turning his head back toward her. He thought she'd been upset with him, after all

Mary sighed deeply. "I hate you sometimes. You're brash and arrogant and you try to get me to do things I shouldn't. But you've been... a friend to me. A really good one." She didn't really have friends back home except for her brother in law Tom, and her maid Anna - but could she really be a friend if she was hired help? "I'm sorry for... whatever you've gone through and I see that you're trying to be a different person."

He could have left her at the lounge to do God knows what but he was kind enough to make sure that she got to her room safely, even if he vastly overstayed his welcome.

She gave another sigh. "And it hurts to admit it, but you're very nice to cuddle."

Lucifer laughed. "You realize you're cuddling the devil?" he teased.

His voice grew more serious. "I wouldn't say I'm trying to be a different person. I'm just trying to be my own person and not the monster my father thought I was, thus wanted me to be."

"Shut up," she said, and laid her head back on his shoulder. "That's a good thing. I cannot say I relate directly, but I do know what it's like to want to be your own person." Mary had to remake herself after Matthew's death, and she thought that she had done a pretty good job of it. She'd come out stronger on the other side.

Lucifer nodded. He believed her when she said that, because he could see it in her. "You said last night that sometimes all people see are your looks. You're far more than that to me," he mentioned. He'd told her as much before, but it bore repeating.

"Thank you," she said quietly. Mary shifted so that she was in front of him and embraced him again, wanting a proper hug. She buried her face in his neck and breathed him in, trying to ignore the pounding in her head. "I don't usually touch other people like this."

Lucifer smirked at that. "Neither do I." He briefly considered mentioning that he was even less inclined to once realizing he was a stand-in for someone else, but managed to stop himself. Progress was measured in small steps.

Mary didn't necessarily see him as a stand-in for Jim. She didn't even know what she felt for Jim other than an initial attraction. This affection was hers, even if it felt very odd. But his arms were warm and she found that she didn't give a damn.

"It's quite lovely," she said, then sighed. "Alright, now get the hell out of my bed so I can go back to sleep."

Chuckling, Lucifer carefully climbed out of the bed and found his blazer. "Right," he said. "Drink some more water and check the replicator for the space age equivalent of ibuprofen."

He paused in the doorway, "You should be able to just sleep it off though," he mentioned, before exiting. That had been an odd night.

No goodbye, but Mary was still exhausted and in pain, so it didn't really matter. She was ready to get back to sleep as soon as possible. Whatever fallout from this would be dealt with later. Mary just hoped to God she hadn't made a fool of herself in front of anyone but Lucifer.
