RP: Essay after essay
Date & Time: 19 November 1998 | Afternoon.
Post Type: RP.
Open To: Private.
Character(s): Ron Weasley, Hermione Granger.
Location: Braeburn Common Room.
Summary: School work has Ron a bit frazzled.

Ron felt right exhausted, even more run down than he usually did he‘d wager.

The redhead was currently searching through his trunk recklessly, knees digging into the stone floor of the Braeburn Gryffindor boy’s dorm. He was looking for a certain parchment that had a bunch of Charms notes scribbled (to the point of being indecipherable) onto it. There was a sizeable essay, one of two, due and though he hadn’t procrastinated as long as he typically did--- he had wasted enough time to warrant a mild panic. Feels like that’s all he’s been doing lately really, standing on the edge of a freak out over the large amount of coursework. Learning spell after spell, writing essay after essay and just trying to keep himself afloat and his head above water. Couldn’t for the life of him remember the last time he gotten a break. Played a game of wizard’s chess, went for a fly. Hell, he couldn’t even remember the last time he had seen Harry or Hermione. It’s probably been months if not longer.

Actually, he had seen both of them at breakfast just that morning but it only proved his point that all this school work was starting to turn him into a loon.

It took another minute before he finally found the parchment in question, grabbing it roughly and lifting it into the air, right in front of his face as a made satisfied noise along the lines of ‘aha!’ but more of a grunt than anything else. Ron got to his feet swiftly, moving to grab the rest of his study supplies (two books, few more pieces of parchment and his quill) off the bed before heading towards the door and pushing out into the staircase. The plan was pretty simple: he was going to give himself two hours before he wanted to have at least his introduction and a bit more done. Maybe half way through with the whole thing if his brain could pull it together long enough to focus but Ron wasn’t really betting on that to be happen. At least not today anyway, not with how he was currently feeling.

Things tucked under one of his arms, his pace was quick, making sure to hit each step on the way down. When he got to the bottom he paused in the doorway, blue eyes searching the area for a second or two. The Common Room was thankfully empty of people, noise, and distraction which was going to make this essay mess a bit easier. Ron decided against a table in favor of one of the brown couches near the fireplace because he always said and always would that he worked better the more comfortable he was. It was just a fact, really. Dropping down against the plush cushions, he began to get himself all situated. Setting his quill and the parchment down on the table in front of him along with one of the books, he took the other one and leaned into the corner of the couch, against the back and arm.

He had two hours to make some progress and that’s exactly what he was going to do. Ron opened the book, turned to the specified chapter and began to read.

Ron could feel one corner of his mouth twitch upwards as he rolled his eyes, responding in a tone that suggested this was exactly the answer he expected from her. “Yeah, yeah-- I know. Had to try and all that, wouldn‘t be me if I didn‘t.” Despite the major change in their relationship, Ron wanted to keep to their traditions which included him trying to weasel out of school work and her refusing to assist him in such endeavors. He knew that the day she did an assignment for him would never come, it was just as simple as that but that wouldn’t ever stop him from trying.

“Suppose we better get back to work then. I’ll move over to where your stuff is so I can keep an eye on ya`. Make sure you’re not messing about and neglecting your studies.” He joked, giving her knee a faint squeeze before gently (way more so than when he tugged her into his lap) shifted her around so that she was able to stand up. Once she did, the tall redhead followed in fashion and got to his feet, leaning over to grab his book and parchments before cutting the distance between him and the table with Hermione’s things laid out.

“What were you getting at again?” Ron asked, running a finger a long the spine of one of Hermione’s books after setting down his own things and taking a seat. Blue eyes shifted to Hermione. “Transfiguration was it?”

"I resent the implication I'm incapable of staying on task, Ronald!" she teased straight back. Some people seemed to imagine that she lacked a sense of humour or couldn't take a joke, but it wasn't true and she particularly enjoyed the sorts of running jokes she had with her friends. When Ron moved her again she was relieved that it happened rather slower, although she had been about to question him about the sudden squeezing of her knee. She noticed the tiny little brushes of his hands, and as long as they didn't go too far she rather enjoyed them.

"Thank you," she acknowledged as he moved her to where she could stand up again. She brushed herself down slightly as she stood, pushing her hair back over her shoulders. She moved back to her table and sat in the chair she'd vacated earlier.

She nodded, unrolling her scroll ready for note-taking. "Yes, I want to plan out the latest assignment and make notes from this book before I work on my Arithmancy calculations. I'll work on the essay after that. Which Charms essay are you working on?" she asked, there were two outstanding at the moment, with different completion dates. One was rather nearer to being due than the other, it was also the one she thought was more complicated.

Sitting there, Ron watched intently as Hermione took her seat across from him and began to unroll a stroll. He could already see the concentration on her face as she got into her eminent learning frame of mind. It was a look he could probably identify from great distances at this point. “Oy, just thinking about all that work is giving me a headache. I can’t even remember what we’re doing in Transfig right now.” He commented as he sat back in his chair, hands lifting to rub at his temples for a few seconds. “Hopefully not anything too important.”

He grabbed his book off the table when she asked him which Charms essay he was working on, flipping it open and searching for the right page. “Uh, whichever is due first? I know it was like, something about something.” Ron added helpfully at the end while his brows furrowed slightly, looking his usual lost. He had only read a paragraph in by the time that Hermione had showed up and since then, well he’s basically forgotten most (all) the information.

Once he had gotten back to where he was suppose to be in the book, he held it in one hand, using the other hand to rub at the small knot in the back of his neck. “The effects and uses of the disillusionment charm? Is that one of them due or am I on the wrong chapter?”

Hermione deflated slightly with a sigh and looked up from her own book. "It's all important, Ron," she pointed out. "You know that we could be examined on any of the syllabus, obviously there are the things which regularly come up, but any of the syllabus could be a part of the exams," she said, falling into an almost lecturing tone.

She wasn't surprised when he said he was writing the one which was due first, she'd had to do more preparation than usual for that one herself. "No, that's the one due later. The one due next is the one comparing the effects of at least three mood altering charms and assessing how to safely use them." Whilst cheering charms had been part of the OWL syllabus there were a whole class of mood-altering charms, several of which were strictly in NEWT territory because of the serious side effects if they were performed incorrectly.

"It's eighteen inches too, so depending which ones you choose you might have to use more charms, obviously with some of them having less effects and problems." She gave Ron a rueful smile, it gave him a lot of work to do before the essay was due, but it was certainly still doable. Turning back to her book she quickly found the contents page and identified the chapter she needed for her own essay and turned to it.
