The kitchen was a complete disaster. It only occurred to her after she'd gone to the market that she should have asked what he--Teddy, her son--liked to eat. Instead, she'd settled for some chicken and veg, a fairly safe combination for most guests. And hard to screw up, even for her. The last time she'd attempted it, Remus had said it was good. Hopefully his son would like it, too.
She paused to lean against the worktop, taking a few deep breaths. She'd seen a lot in her twenty-three years, and it took a lot to unsettle her. Even being badly wounded in the Department of Mysteries a few months back hadn't done this sort of number on her. She'd had days to mull over the idea, and yet she couldn't reconcile herself to it. Married to Remus. A son. Dead in only a couple of years. And then another thought had started to work its way into her head--what if being in this place meant she'd have the chance to change things?
Shaking her head, she tossed the last of the vegetables into a dish and stirred a bit. She couldn't start thinking that way, because it would drive her mad. Besides, he would be here soon, and she didn't want him to see just how nervous she was. It wasn't fair.
