What? Huh. That's weird. No. Not me. Guess the thing glitched. Kinda surprising it doesn't happen more, really; disguising it as a book throws up all sorts of questions.

But, hey. Now we're talking (or, y'know, writing at each other, at least)... hi, I guess? Welcome to Paris. It's a shithole and anyway, so, now we've done the introductions thing I kinda always wanted to ask if the whole 'parsecs' thing is because you're actually really clever and wanted to check if the farmboy and the old dude would call you on using the wrong units or because there's a shortcut or because parsec doesn't mean the distance at which one astronomical unit subtends an angle of one arcsecond over in your string. Because one of those is shitty screenwriting and the other two are kinda badass.

Right, so, basically, we're living in a confirmed multiverse - we have to be, because if reality didn't already include everything that could ever possibly happen then us being here on Earth in 1830 trying to change history would cause some sort of catastrophic paradox. And that's got all sorts of exciting ramifications for maths and physics but they're really not relevant to the question you're asking.

Quantum theory calls those different realities Strings. The Agency are pulling people from a whole bunch of different Strings and dumping them in this one. And what's really interesting is the points at which these massively different strings intersect. Specific to you, Mr Solo, sir, the String you're from crops up in most of the Earth-based ones I've seen so far as a popular film franchise called Star Wars which, like, pretty much everyone has seen at least once.
