Who: Lil Adam and Riley
What: A safe place to go.
Where: Riley's house
When: evening
Adam was in his mad zone. That meant that he was so mad that he just walked and didn't care. He walked around for a few hours before his feet found a semi-familiar path. Not that he'd walked there before, ridden there in a car though. Looking around, he finally noticed that he'd walked all the way to Riley's.
It was dark and cold and Adam was hungry. His belly gurgling loud at him as he stared at the house. Charlie was in there and he didn't want to go in, but his phone was dead and he was getting tired and cold. So, he sucked it up and went up to the door and knocked on it.
Riley had been coming down the stairs when he heard the knock, he was a bit surprised since he hadn’t expected anyone but he headed over to the door and opened it. Adam…he did not expect that one. “Hey Adam.” He said as he held the door open wider so the boy could come in. “It’s freezing out there, come inside.” Riley said as he smiled at him.
Adam almost left after knocking on the door, but Riley opened it before he could. He only had a hoodie on over a t-shirt and jeans, so even with his lycan heat, it was fuckin' cold. "Hey," he said softly, sniffling a bit from the angry cryin and a bit from it being cold. "Um. . . I got in a fight with Trever. . ." He said, nothing else. Like that would explain him walking as far as he did in the cold.
Riley nodded and shut the door. "Well that sucks, did you want to talk about it or just ignore it for now.?" He asked with an understanding look and then motioned him towards the kitchen, ignoring the sniffles unless Adam said something about it. "I was about to put leftovers from dinner away if you want some. You'd think I had two teenage boys around here instead of females." Riley walked into the kitchen and motioned to the counter with stools. "Have a seat."
Adam didn't want to intrude too much. He was nervous because it was Charlie's territory and he didn't really feel like getting in a fight with her. The full moon was the next night and he could do some real damage if provoked. He didn't really answer, nor did he take a seat. Standing there, shifting like he should be ready to run for some reason or another, he looked up at Riley for a moment before looking away.
He'd gotten better around men, but with everything feeling raw right then, he was doing what he usually did, Be ready to dodge or run. "I'm sorry for last time," he said softly, almost too soft.
Riley could feel the emotions swirling in Adam but again he said nothing. He wasn't going to poke into the kid's business out of the office if he didn't want him to...but he did come to his house so it was possible he could help.
He noticed that Adam didn't say anything or agree to food so he just stood there and waited for him to speak. When he did Riley smiled at him. "You didn't want to be here, I know that...but you were decent to Mara so that's all I care about. You're forgiven." Riley caught Adam's eye so he knew he meant it. "So you sure you don't want to eat? I made burgers, nice juicy, thick ones too." Teenage boys were always hungry right? Riley always had been.
"I. . ." He started to say something, but stopped. He was hungry, he hadn't eaten since noon and it was now evening. Adam was on the brink of starvation, or at least felt like it was. That didn't mean he was going to take the food though. "I think I should go. I'm sorry for coming in," he said, keeping his head down and eye contact with Riley at a minimal.
"Adam...you don't have to go and you don't need to be sorry. I don't mind you being here at all...And if you're curious. Charlie isn't here right now. It's just us and Mara who is upstairs. " Riley walked around the counter and sat on a stool. "Do you want to talk to me about it a little? You don't have to if you don't want to, you just look like you could use an ear to listen."
At that last bit, Adam nearly burst into tears. Someone listen to him? That'd be a first. "Trever's being a dick and not listening to me when he talks to me, then gets mad because I get mad that he's not listening and he just keeps dicking around and expects me to just forgive him and move on and-" Then came the tears as he kept going, slowly becoming unintelligible. "Then Uncle Jon says I have to just try harder because Trever won't, not can't, won't. I'm trying! I've got good grades! I don't pull stupid stuff every week and I work hard! All I get is 'try harder' and 'why are you so mad all the time?' That's it! I clean my room, do the chores and keep up with everything and I get shit!" He said, taking a moment as he started to get light headed from talking and crying so hard.
Riley hadn't expected the dam to burst like that but he took it in stride and he listed to everything the boy said, even when it became harder to decipher, but Riley was a shrink after all, he was pretty good at figuring it out when people cried and talked.
"it doesn't sound like either of them are listening to you very well." He said softly and then pulled out a stool. "Please sit before you fall down okay." Riley asked of him, worried to touch him because he knew the scared rabbit look from earlier real well from his own life.
Breathing hard and still crying, Adam sat on the stool. He was cold and tired and now he had a headache and a runny nose. His face was bright read and wet from his tears. "Nobody listens. A girl who used to be my friend only talks to me when she wants someone to 'ooo' and 'awe' at her or feel bad because she dated a dick head and then gets mad when I say all she talks about is herself and never asks how I'm doing or about anything in my life that's all anyone does! They just care about themselves because it's too hard to care about someone else! I hate it here! I hate it as much as I hate being home. The only difference is I had people on my side at home. Here, I'm on my own," he said, sobbing harder for a few moments before the hiccups started and he got even more upset at those.
[
Riley pulled the box of tissues over to Adam and then listened to him as he continued on. He felt for the boy, a lot. They had a lot in common from when Riley was around his age. "People tend to be selfish Adam, even ones that love you sometimes." He frowned slightly when the boy started to say how much he hated it here. "I'm on your side Adam, you're not on your own I promise." Riley wasn't Adam's age and they couldn't hang out really but he was always there for him if he needed him. "How about I get you some water okay?" Riley got up and grabbed a bottle out of the fridge and put it in front of Adam, he could drink if he wanted or not it wouldn't bother Riley either way.
Calming down a bit, he took the tissues, a few at a time, and started to clean himself up. Blowing his nose and wiping his eyes. Soft little cat like mews of a sad kitten came through as well. A recent addition with his lycanthropy. Calming down more, he took the water offered and drank it slowly at first before gulping it down, dehydrated after crying it all out. Putting the empty bottle back on the counter, he sat there quietly, tired and hungry now. "Can. . . Can I have some of the left overs please?" He asked quietly.
Riley got up and wet a cloth, ringing it out and handing it to Adam so he could wipe his face. He gently stroked his hair before sitting down again. He waited for the boy to speak and when he asked for food Riley smiled at him. "Absolutely. Do you want some of the home fries too?" He asked as he grabbed the container out of the fridge with the burgers and strips of bacon. "You want cheese and bacon on it?" Riley asked as he threw the bun in the toaster oven to warm up.
"Yes, please," he said, nodding to it all. Adam was starving and that's all that he really was thinking about right then. Afterwards. . . He didn't know. Maybe ask to call his Uncle Jon or see if he could stay the night here on the couch or something. He really didn't know right because the smell of it all was making him lose his train of thought.
Riley heated up a couple burgers, in case Adam wanted two, and then loaded one up and gave it to him along with fries he had heated up as well. Riley walked over to the fridge and grabbed him a pop and then put a container of cupcakes down for when he was done. "Eat your fill man, there's plenty." Riley sat back on his own stool and ate a piece of bacon, thinking about asking Rez if it was okay for Adam to sleep there, it might be good for him to not see them tonight.
There was little talking besides a 'Thank you' tossed to Riley before Adam dug in, annihilating everything that was set out for him, well half the cupcakes anyways so Mara would have some. It took a total of twenty minutes before Adam was done and full and very sleepy from the sobbing and the walking. Putting everything neatly in the sink, because he didn't know how Riley did the dishes, he stood there a moment before yawning. It was getting late. He looked at the microwave and it said 8:30. That's how long he'd been gone? He knew it was about four when he started to talk to Trever, but he didn't know it's been fourish hours. Pulling his hoodie tighter, he shifted for a few moments before looking at the counter top. "I should probably call Uncle Jon," he said softly.
Riley smiled as Adam ate, typical teenage boy, although he was pretty sure the kid was starving. Now he was way more sated and exhausted that was for sure. He waited patiently for Adam to say what he wanted to do and riley nodded. "I think you should, and ask him if you can sleep here if you want. I have a guest room you can sleep in, has it's own tv and everything too if you just want to watch movies for awhile. Or I can take you home if you like."
It was weird enough taking food and crying in front of the guy, even if he was his shrink. He didn't think he'd stick around for the night. "Uncle Jon's probably wondering where I am. I should call him to let him know," Adam said.
"Yeah you should go call him, there's a phone over there." riley motioned to over by the table before getting up and starting to put the leftovers away again. He wouldn't be offended if Adam went home, it might make him uncomfortable to sleep at Riley's and he understood that. If Rez didn't know Riley so well he wouldn't have suggested it.
"Thanks," he said as he walked over to it and picked it up, dialing Uncle Jon's phone number. It rang twice before he picked up. It was a few moments of saying 'Yes I'm fine. No, I'm at Riley's.' Hanging up, the teen came back in, yawning again, wanting to curl up with something for comfort.
Riley nodded and snapped the lids on the food and started putting it away in the fridge. By the time he was done so was Adam. "Is he coming to get you?" Riley asked and smiled at Adam's yawn. "Want to sit on the couch? It's way more comfortable." He said as he motioned out of the kitchen and into a living room with a huge couch.
Adam nodded when Riley asked about his ride. "Sure," he said, when the couch was offered. It was getting hard to stay standing up on his feet as they were starting to get more and more sore from the excursion of his day. Going into the living room, he sat on the couch a moment before pulling his feet up and curling up on the couch. It wasn't even a minute before he was passed out cold, softly little snores coming from his sleeping form.
Riley smiled at Adam when he fell asleep on the couch. He settled himself in an armchair and started reading the book he had left there, waiting for Rez to come pick up his nephew.
