Who: Charlie and Candi
When: Tuesday morning
Where: his apartment
What: her sire is whispering not-so-sweet nothings into her ear
Note: done via AIM
Candi was moving quickly across campus faster than most, she had just woken up and needed to see Charlie. She ran up the stairs of his building and started knocking on his door, she had no idea if he was awake yet and she didn't care she would stay there until he did. She leaned on the door and glanced down at herself realizing she was still just wearing her pajamas, boy shorts and a thin tank top. "Way to go Candi," she mumbled to herself.
Charlie was sleeping, but he woke up quickly when he heard a pounding on his door. Well, Cassius' barking like mad was a big factor in Charlie's eyes opening as well. He hurried out of bed, pulling the sheet off as he did, because unlike Candi, he slept naked. He rushed to wrap it around his waist as he ran to the door and open it. The knocking was frantic, so it had to be an emergency. Candi was on the other side looking paler than she should. He looked around behind her to see if there was someone chasing her. "What's wrong?" he asked, blinking a bit to clear his eyes.
"You were sleeping...sorry but I had to talk to you...like now." she bit her lip and then hurried into his apartment. "I know I don’t know you very well but you understand.” She looked at him then and realized he was naked and all kinds of yummy under the sheet. "Um normally I would truly enjoy it but maybe you could put some pants on because you are really distracting right now." She said with a weak smile as she pulled the blanket off the couch and wrapped it around herself to cover up.
Okay, so it wasn't the sort of emergency that required he get a gun. Good to know. He nodded at her request and dragged his feet back to his bedroom to throw on some boxers and a USMC t-shirt. When Charlie was dressed, he and Cassius (who was following him around nervously) both returned to the living room, though he didn't stay there, because he needed some blood now that he was awake. "Do you want some?" he asked as he poured a bag into a coffee mug and put it in the microwave to warm.
Candi looked at the dog like he had just appeared, fuck she was in shock or at least really shaken. The blonde shoved her tousled hair out of her face and blinked at Charlie when he mentioned blood. She had forgotten to eat when she woke, she never did that. "Yes please, I...I forgot to eat before I came over." She should have been frustrated because she wasn't telling him yet, but part if her still wanted to put it off. Saying it out loud made it more real.
Charlie poured another mug full of blood and when the first one was done heating, he put the second mug in. He walked into the living room and handed the first warm beverage to Candi. "Here." Cassius followed and took time to sniff Candi carefully. He snorted as his head jerked back, then he leaned in to sniff her some more. "You must smell weird to him." Wasn't surprising given she'd been a lycan and was now a vampire. The scents were all jumbled up, and Cassius didn't know what to make of her.
"Thank you." she said softly as she took the mug from him, not even trying to flirt...so very unlike Candi. The older vampire looked at the dog and smiled a little at him. "Dogs have a hard time with me, I do seem to confuse them." she sipped the blood and nearly groaned as her body took it in and started to make her look more alive. Okay Candi it's like a band aid just rip it off, she thought to herself. "My sire was whispering in my dreams last night, Charlie.”
Charlie had headed back to the kitchen to get his own mug, because he didn't feel functional yet. He needed blood to wake up. He was walking back when Candi opened her mouth again. "What do you mean.. whispering?" he asked, his voice and face full of concern as he sat down on the edge of the coffee table facing her. Cassius put his head in Charlie's lap and sighed. He didn't like being up this early either.
Candi focused on the dog when Charlie started asking her what she meant. Candi sipped the blood again and then wiped her mouth. "I could hear him in my mind, he wanted me to know he could see me, get to me at anytime..that he could get to Jason at anytime...he's going to see if he can contact Jason like he's his sire since in a way he is." She frowned and then shook her head, “I won't let him try to call Jason.”
Charlie frowned and put down his mug. His hand went to Cassius' head, stroking the dog's fur as he thought. "We're gonna have to speed up our planning. If he comes to campus, we're all screwed. We have to get to him before then."
She set down the mug and hugged her legs to her chest. "He's old Charlie, and paranoid. I can walk in there but you...I'd need a good reason for you to be there. There's no sneaking up on him, he has too many guards." She pressed the heels if her hands into her closed eyes. "Once he's dead the guards will be free...they will be happy...but his current lover I don't know how he will react." She pressed her lips together and nodded. "He can't come here...”
Charlie shook his head. He'd already been working on a plan. "We won't need to sneak in if I manage to talk someone into helping us. She's a teleporter.. well, more than just that.. but it's one of her many useful talents. Actually, all her abilities will work to our advantage." He just didn't know what Peyton would ask for in return. They weren't friends, but she liked Ava, so maybe Ava could talk her into it.
Candi shook her head and touched his thigh. "Charlie I don't want to endanger anyone else, fuck I don't even want to put you in danger." She closed her eyes for a moment and then sighed. "I don’t want to but the truth is I'd risk anyone to keep Jason safe." She said quietly and then leaned back into the couch.
"Look, it will be her decision. I'm not going to put a gun to her head and demand she help us. And I still don't know if she'll say yes. So, let me at least ask. She's very powerful and more than capable of protecting herself.. even us. Trust me when I say you've never met another person like her. She's our best chance of killing your sire and protecting Jason."
Candi looked at Charlie for a moment and then nodded. "Alright if your friend helps we will have a plan, if not we will need a back up."
"The back up plan is more weapons," he said with a shrug and got up from the coffee table. Cassius was on his feet a fraction of a second later. He still appeared nervous. Perhaps he could sense what Charlie's brain was cooking up. "I need to know everything about this guy that you can tell me. Age, skill, any weaknesses.. all of it. The more I know about him, the better prepared we'll be."
Candi nodded when Charlie said more weapons. "A few grenades wouldn’t hurt either," she said with a sigh and then looked at Charlie. "Where do I even start with Wolfgang...he's...I don't think he's insane, just incredibly cruel." She shifted on the couch, letting the blanket pool around her waist. "Where do you want me to start?”
Charlie nearly choked. "Wolfgang?" Fucking hell, who was this guy? He hoped that was a name the vampire had picked for himself, because otherwise the guy's parents should be shot as well, even though they were probably already dead. "At the beginning. I need to know as much as possible about him."
Candi smirked at his reaction to her sire's name. "Yeah, he gave himself that name a long time ago apparently." She shrugged and then ran her hands through her hair. "He's never said how old he was but at least a few centuries under his belt, and I'd say more than five at least."
“Alright. So five hundred years or more. He's younger than my sire was. That gives me some confidence. Plus, I find it hard to believe that anyone was as crazy and murderous as Val." He could do this. He could take down Mister Amadeus. What an absurd name.
"Possibly, he could be more I don't know." She frowned at him. " Don't underestimate him please Charlie." She ran her tongue over her fangs, an old habit. "He's a sexual sadist, he likes to hurt people, he believes humans and shifters exist only to feed us.”
“No, I won't underestimate him. I know how cruel they can be." Charlie paused and thought. "Have you ever seen him fight?"
She nodded at his question. "I've seen him fight, he's vicious and likes to make it last as long as possible if he's winning so he can inflict the most pain." She shivered at the thought of him fighting. "I fought him when I turned, I couldn't move for days, he broke so many bones, let me heal wrong and then rebroke them to prove a point.”
"I need to know more about his fighting style. Is he a weapons guy.. good with his hands, feet, what? Think about what I've been teaching you. Tell me about his strengths and weaknesses." Charlie appreciated her description, but it wasn't overly helpful in figuring out the best way to attack the dude.
She nodded and took a breath out if habit. "He prefers hands, but he is good with knives, if he has to grab a weapon it will be knives first. You pull a gun he will have a gun. He's a good shot but not perfect." She chewed on her lip as she thought. "He's crazy fast, I mean we are fast but he's ridiculous, his biggest weakness is he thinks he's the big bad, he's cocky.”
Charlie nodded, letting all her words sink in. "Is there anything he loves? Anything we can use against him?" That was how you crippled an enemy. You destroyed what they treasured.
The blonde nodded quickly. "Matthew, he's his biggest weakness. He is the first person he ever turned because he had been in love with him in life, however Matthew hates him for doing it. So he's usually chained in the bedroom or living room, wherever Wolf is that day.”
“Then that's how we destroy your sire… and help Matthew at the same time. It won't be easy though, not without killing Matthew as well. I'm not a fan of bluffing, but I'm pretty good at it. You need to draw as detailed a map as possible of the lair. Can you do that?"
Candi nodded and frowned slightly. "If we have to kill Matthew we have to kill him...he wants to die, every time he gets free that's what he does, try to kill himself. And anyone that helps him immediately is executed no questions or explanations. So Matthew stopped asking us to help him, he didn't want others to die for him.”
Charlie shook his head. "No, I'm not looking to take out anyone as some sort of mercy killing. Wolfgang is the target. Matthew can kill himself if that's what he prefers, but I'd rather his blood not be on my hands if he hasn't done anything wrong."
Candi shrugged and stretched her kegs out in front of herself. "I just meant if you had no choice, not to do it just because. He's a decent being he's never hurt anyone but Wolf."
"If he turns out to be a casualty, then.." Charlie sighed. This was going to be messy. He could hardly believe he was plotting the death of another person, but Wolfgang needed to be destroyed. Killing him would save a lot of people.
She rubbed her hand over her stomach, worrying about what they were doing and if Charlie would get hurt...they would save a lot of people by killing Wolf but all she cared about was Jason. "He's turned a fourteen year old into a vampire before he sent me away" she said softly.
Charlie frowned. "Ava is going to help me track down Peyton. As soon as I know if she's on board, we'll finalize our plans. The sooner we take him out, the better. Maybe the kid he turned could come here."
"Ava is your ex wife right? Is she going to be okay with this?" she asked curiously and then shrugged at his mention of the boy. "Maybe but he would be very damaged, the young ones don't fair very well.”
Charlie sighed and shook his head. "No, she's not okay with it, but she's not screaming at me for it anymore. She barged in to bitch, but I managed to calm her down, and she agreed to find Peyton." He was impressed that Ava had caved. She must have done so out of worry over his safety. "He's going to need help adjusting. This would be the place for him."
"Fuck Charlie I'm messing with your life, I'm sure she wants to rip me apart." She rubbed her hand over her face and tugged on her hair. This would be the place for him but who would take care of him?
"I offered, didn't I?" he asked. Yeah, this was a big undertaking, but Charlie felt it needed to be done. He had a responsibility to Cassie. "Just help me keep my promise to Ava. I told her I wouldn't get myself killed."
"yYu did but...fuck I don't want you to get hurt, I like you, a lot and I just don't want to think about it." Candi nodded at his words. "I will do everything I can for you to come back alive I swear."
“If I don't.." Charlie paused, because he knew it was a possibility, despite his promise. "Can you at least make sure my body makes it back? It's in my will. I wanna be buried next to my mom."
"I will do as you ask but that won't happen," she said firmly. "You are not going to the final death Charlie." She got up and started pacing, her fear all used up. "We need to find out if he's tried to contact Jason...he will try at some point. I would ask him but he prob won't talk to me." she said sadly.
“Do you want me to ask him?" Charlie didn't mind, even though his last chat with Jason hadn't gone all that well. But this was important, and Jason needed to know it. Maybe it would be better to ask Cassie.
"I want to ask him but that's just a stupid idea." She nodded and then stopped and looked at Charlie. "Yes please you ask him, as few people involved as possible.”
Charlie nodded. "I'll talk to him about it. Is there anything you don't want me to say to him?" Charlie didn't want to overstep his bounds.
"No you can tell him whatever you need to." She said softly and then flopped back onto the couch. "Thank you for talking to me, this really helped me. I'm sure it's a hard spot to be in, being nice to me and trying to be friends with Jason.”
“Cassie tried convincing me not to be friends with you, but she was willing to settle for me simply not fucking you." He shrugged. "Compromise and all. I told her I'd already put a no fucking policy in place."
Candi laughed and shook her head. "A no fucking policy how lovely." She licked her lips and looked down at herself, she didn't care if she didn’t sleep with Charlie, he would be just another guy, but it would upset Jason so she was hands off.
"You should go back to bed," he told her, grabbing his mug from the coffee table and finishing it off before taking it to the kitchen sink to rinse and then putting it in the dishwasher.
She nodded and started to get up. "You're right. I probably should. Sorry for my appearance I don't normally walk around in my pjs."
Charlie shook his head and wore a polite smile. "It's no problem. I don't wear pajamas," he said with a chuckle. "Well, not anymore. I did when Maggie was living with me. But now that it's just me, I don't see the point."
"So I noticed and I was in no state of mind to appreciate it, such a shame." She said with a grin and started for the door. "You know Charlie, whoever ends up with you will be a very lucky woman, I want you to know that." She leaned in and kissed his cheek before opening the door.
Charlie shrugged. "I'm not sure anyone will end up with me, but thanks." He let her kiss his cheek, but didn't offer any affection in return. It would be a bad idea. They were strictly friends. No benefits. "I'll talk to Jason later today."
"Someone will Charlie, you're too good a man to be alone forever." The kiss hadn't meant anything but a thank you, a show of affection but in a sisterly way...not something she did often.
Charlie didn't say anything more on the matter. He had his doubts. Besides, he had more things to worry about than whether he was truly a good man, or if he'd ever find someone else to love. "Later, Candi," he told her, waiting until she was heading down the stairs before shutting the door.
