Cannonball, don't pay no mind, Though you're gentle, though you're kind
Who: Court & Portia (and anyone who happens to show up)
What: A promise kept
When: The evening of Unification Day
Where: Glynn's cemetery
Status: Ongoing
It had been a hell of a day. He'd tweaked the noses of half the Cloves in the town, if not fully shocked the other half. There'd been a terrorist attack, he'd finally had a chance to talk to Viola about more than pleasantries, but under the worst possible circumstances. But none of that mattered.
That morning Court had made a promise. There were two wreaths for the fallen in the Glynn's cemetery and he said he would lay them on Unification Day. My birthday turned into such an abomination... Inwardly, he shook his head, but he couldn't afford such a rueful gesture now. Court walked along the path where he'd run into the Rosier gardener the previous night, wondering if he'd be there again. He wondered if anyone would be there, but none of that mattered either.
Raymonde ran alongside him exploring, but the hound kept looking over, his bright eyes acutely aware that something was wrong with his master. Court had traded his uniform for a simple black suit. He carried both wreaths, black-white-blue for Clovenne and pink-gold-green-blue for Aurelle, in one arm, limping along with his simple black cane in the other. He could have been a mourner in any of a dozen countries, save for the scabbarded saber that hung at his left hip. With the attack that morning, he wasn't taking chances.
He reached the end of the path and the small clearing that fronted on the cemetery gates and then paused, looking for anyone else around.
