Who: Bren Gallagher & Athena Sargent
What: Helping move out his ex's stuff is definitely fair repayment for a miracle.
Where: Bren's apartment, New Haven, CT
When: Sunday, September 23; evening
Things with Hannah hadn't been good for a while, but Bren hadn't realized that they'd been so bad until she'd decided to dump all the things that were getting in the way of her having what she wanted in her life, and that included him. Not like Bren couldn't understand why he wasn't exactly the easiest boyfriend in the world to have... crazy god powers, tendency to piss off other people with crazy god powers for fun, hangups with sex that he hadn't even started to unravel since he'd gotten Ash in his head and a whole bunch of memories that weren't his own to deal with... yeah, there was a whole list of reasons why Bren was the worst boyfriend in the world, but he'd sort of thought that Hannah had known about those and signed up for it anyway because she liked him anyway.
He'd stalled actually taking care of getting everything she'd left in his apartment boxed up and mailed to her school, first because part of him thought that she'd realize that she could go to school and still have parts of her old life. He wasn't going to stop her from graduating. Bren thought it was great that she wanted to finish up what she'd started. She was just... he didn't know. He didn't know what Hannah was doing, none of it made sense, but he'd really thought that she'd figure it out and they'd be okay. He hadn't been able to see her future, after all. That meant that it was supposed to be tied up with his somehow. He'd thought that really meant something.
After that it was more that he'd just been too lazy to actually finish it up until she texted him again, an itemized list of everything that she needed from his apartment. It had included everything except her books about demonology, cryptozoology, any of those ology things that gave her all the information about the things that they were hunting. That was what'd really convinced Bren that she'd meant it when she said that she was out of hunting for good. There wasn't any other reason for Hannah to ever say she didn't want a book.
Freaky god powers or not, Bren had still stalled out when it came to packing Hannah's stuff up like a normal guy who hadn't gotten over getting dumped by his first real girlfriend. He could have just waved a hand and sent it all to her, but that wasn't what Hannah had asked for. She'd wanted her college life to come without any displays of anything supernatural and he guessed he should respect that even if it was making his life a giant pain in the ass. Lucky for him he had some favors he could call in. Well. One really big favor he could call in, which still counted.
"I figure clothes in this one," he told Athena while he pointed at a long, flat box. "Not many of those, just some hoodies she ditched here when it was colder and her backup stuff in case things got messy while we were hunting. Books are going to be the hardest part, she doesn't want all of them so we'll have to sort them instead of just dumping them all in a box and moving on."
He scrolled up the list that she'd texted him and stopped before he hit the ones before it, the ones where she'd been trying to break up with him and he'd been an idiot who'd taken way too long to figure out what 'I need to get my life back' meant.
