If anyone asked him what kind of man he was, he would simply say he was the kind of man who took the money that was offered to him and didn’t ask any questions. That’s what he was doing today, why he was standing outside on the steps of the Agency building in London, preparing to make his move. Walk in there unnoticed, they’d said. Well, he didn’t have a damn invisibility cloak or any superpowers that enabled him to go unseen, if he’d had the latter, he wouldn’t be the one entrusted with this mission. He would be one of the ones who were being targeted.
He hadn’t asked any questions when he’d been called in for this job, but that wasn’t the kind of job this was. Senator Scott was a very public figure, after all, and for obvious reasons he couldn’t be linked to this. He would probably be suspected, but suspicions could be thwarted. People would think it was a government conspiracy, a team of mad scientists or some bio terrorist group, or even an average citizen taking the law into his own hands, as long as it wasn't actually traced back to Senator Scott. That meant whoever took this job was expendable, but he was alright with that. He’d been assured that his family would be well looked after, as long as he stayed silent, and he’d never had a problem doing that. It was a small price to pay to make sure the people he loved stayed safe, and these abominations got what they deserved.
By now it was late enough in the morning that the place was already buzzing with activity, the building filling up with people - not people, he reminded himself, reincarnates. Reincarnates weren’t people anymore, that’s what the news and people like Senator Scott kept saying. That’s what made him feel better about doing this. He was performing a patriotic service that his family and his countrymen would be proud of him for back home. This was his purpose. This was his legacy. If the only good thing he ever did in his life was help rid the world of reincarnates, then so be it.
The security to get past the front desk was a joke. All he needed was the I.D. of a reincarnate with his picture plastered on it instead and they barely thought twice when he said he was traveling. After weeks of research and talking to the right people - reincarnates who hated what they were as much as the rest of the world did - he was able to ascertain what he needed to get into the place itself and how he could get to this 'MTN system' reincarnates loved to use so much (it had been surprisingly easy to obtain blueprints of the building's layout). It was there that he was going to commit this crime, at the central point of all reincarnate communications: the London Agency.
"Sorry - excuse me," the man muttered apologetically as he accidentally crashed shoulders with someone walking down the hall in the opposite direction. The person was in a hurry, probably someone who worked here, and barely stopped to accept his apology before hurrying along down the hall, in a rush to get somewhere. Soon that wouldn't matter. He pulled his baseball cap down further over his eyes and kept going, until he finally reached his destination. With hands trembling in anticipation, he waited in a small line of people until it was his turn to step into the MTN. But instead, he pulled out a small vial from his pocket and opened the top of it to the surprise of those around him. Before they could stop him, he tossed it into the opening. People screamed, some of them started coughing violently, a few immediately developing bloody noses, and as someone with a security badge tackled him to the ground, he smiled at the sound of handcuffs snapping into place.
His mission was complete.
