Warnings: Werewolf shenanigans?
Rowan felt a little guilty. A lot of things had factored into his decision not to tell Phoenix and Wyatt where he was going. What if it wasn't just a fluke, and the werewolf curse had actually been triggered somehow? What if his trust in Atticus had been misplaced, and the wolfsbane potion didn't do what it was supposed to? Rowan couldn't risk his friends getting hurt because of him, not again, no matter how well they'd both held their own against him the first time. Halloween could have been a lot worse, Wyatt and Phoenix were lucky to have not ended up werewolf food, but Rowan wasn't willing to gamble their well being again because he selfishly wanted his friends with him on the night of the full moon. Besides, Drei was excellent company. Rowan had grown pretty fond of the other man already, from the one night they'd shared a few drinks and the few conversations they'd had on the boards, so he didn't feel as if he was going to be entirely alone that night.
So, Rowan had left the apartment without telling Phoenix or Wyatt where he was going, knowing they would be just as aware of what tonight potentially was as Rowan had been. He couldn't risk them insisting on going with him, to wherever he was going, so he'd left a note and left before either of them could realize he was gone. It was better this way. Drei was a werewolf, he could handle Rowan if the worst happened, that he was sure of. What Rowan wasn't sure of was how well his friends could handle him a second go around with no wolfsbane to subdue his more animal instincts, and it wasn't a chance he was willing to take. James and Sirius had been able to hold their own against Remus as a full blown werewolf before, but that was them. This was different. If it turned out the wolfsbane potion that Atticus brewed was one hundred percent effective then Rowan would apologize to his friends the next day and move forward. If it wasn't? Well then it was a really good thing he'd stooped to lying to his friends about where he was going that night. Well, not technically lying. He'd told the truth about what he was doing in the note, he just hadn't told them face to face with the intent to not give them a chance to stop him. That wasn't really the same thing as lying, was it?
Half of him was still hoping that it was a fluke, that whatever had happened on Halloween to make him turn wasn't going to doom him to all future full moons for the rest of his life, but the logical part of Rowan already knew he was only holding onto false hopes. He couldn't explain it, but he... felt different. Almost like he could feel the wolf burrowed somewhere hidden underneath his skin. Remus knew that feeling well, so Rowan couldn't exactly ignore it. All the more reason to take every precaution tonight, and a few hours before sunset, he'd left the apartment to make the trek to his and Drei's meeting place. In the interest of keeping as far away from the general population as possible, they'd agreed to venture to a spot in the White Mountain National Forest up in Maine. It took an MTN trip, a car ride, and a long hike, but they eventually got there. Now, just before sunset, Rowan was started to get nervous, biting at his fingertips from where he was currently perched on a small boulder, awaiting the inevitable. Part of Rowan felt like he was being a little melodramatic, but before he could really get into an argument with himself, or Remus, a thought suddenly dawned on him. "What's yours like? The transformation, I mean. To my understanding there's many different kinds."
