Time was meaningless to her while she was in here, but if Ariana had to guess, it had been over a week since she and Mark had been brought in. Since... No. She shuddered, not ready to think about everything that had happened to her before they'd made it here. Before Charlie Archer had found them huddling in that dank motel and took them to the clinic, both of the Scott's ready to pass out from fever. That had been the first thing to happen, a fever so persistent that Ariana was afraid her head was going to overheat and explode. Next came the chills and the never ending coughs. She went to sleep and woke up in cold sweats. Every day was the same. Every day, until Xander came to see her.
She'd become weirdly sensitive to light, so whenever she first opened her eyes she saw nothing but blurred figures and bright white ceiling. Her entire body ached and she would groan, turning over and preparing to go back to sleep, but not the day she saw Xander next to her bedside. Actually, at the time she hadn't immediately recognized him. While her eyes were still adjusting he was more like a human shaped blob outlined in this very shiny-like aura. For a second she irrationally freaked out and thought she'd died, but then her vision came into focus and she recognized him. If anything, it was a comfort to know that even in her current condition, she could still tell the difference between reality and a dream. This wasn't a dream. He was really here.
And he never left. The first few days after he started coming to see her, she hadn't been able to say much. It was too painful to talk, her throat was so raw from the coughing. On this particularly day, when she woke up suddenly from a fever dream, Ariana glanced over to see Xander sitting by her bed and she smiled. Or tried to, anyway. Her lips were so cracked and chapped that all she managed was a friendly grimace, lifting her chin and trying to speak over the clinic's general chaos practically booming in the background outside of her room. "... Hey."
