What. THE HUNGER GAMES.
Where. The Arena.
When. Sunday May 20th - Thursday May 24th 2012.
Warnings. Violence and a lot of death? The Capitol only needs one victor, etc.
Notes. The sub threads split up the events of the games by each day spent in the arena, so pay attention to which one you're tagging into.
The stage had been set. Thanks to the new Gamemakers this year, the Arena had been transformed into the most elaborate labyrinth that the districts of Panem (and the rest of the world) would ever see. The Cornucopia sits in the very center, the biggest open space in the outdoor labyrinth and surrounding the area are dozens of different pathways into the maze. Some dark, some reflecting the artificial daylight already shining from the Arena's sky well into the early morning. Apart from that, each path is completely identical to the one next to it, only the Gamemakers know that each path into the labyrinth provides a completely unique series of horrors. Quicksand, rabid mutts, man-eating plants, perilous dead ends, acid rain, never-ending paths that eventually drop you into bigger chambers with even worse fates than death. There are very few safe havens in this arena, though if you're lucky enough to find one they might even let you sleep through the night, just for the chance to wake you in the worst way possible. Survival provisions are few and far between out in the labyrinth, almost everything you'll need to live is in the Cornucopia. Oh, and the walls of the labyrinth are constantly moving while you're not looking.
The walls in the maze are made from nature, covered in leaves and tree roots that give it the appearance of being penetrable, but try to slash your way through it and you'll wish you hadn't. The walls might just come alive. They're durable and high off the ground, making it impossible to break down or climb over, but there's always a chance they'll lead you right into someone else's path. The areas considered chambers can be found throughout the labyrinth, one on each corner of the maze, depending on which pathway you chose in the beginning. There are a few paths in the maze that don't go anywhere except down. Each chamber is like a mini arena, each with its own challenges and perils. You'd be just as likely to find one with a lava pit as you would to find one with a cavern big enough for two and a river next to it, if the odds are ever in your favor.
At ten A.M. on Sunday, May 20th, the sun shone brightly over the entire labyrinth as all the tributes were led blindfolded in their street clothes (this year's gamemakers didn't care so much about uniforms) to their separate launch pads and transported directly into the center of the Arena. The gamemakers hand picked an excellent turn out, as both reincarnates and it seems a number of non-reincarnates were inducted into this special honor for the 76th Hunger Games. As every hopeful victor rose up from the ground, the booming voice overhead started counting down to each of their deaths as the blindfolds finally came off and the tributes started to shake.
