Who. Sara Taft and Peter Flynn
What. After their head mates take them for a spin, Peter and Sara wake up to... much confusion and awkwardness.
Where. Ocean Beach, San Diego CA
When. Backdated to Thursday afternoon, April 14 2011
Warnings. Epic proportions of awkward, maybe cute and even a little sexy? WHO KNOWS. Also, pirate.

Sara's dreams had been strange ones. Bits and pieces of memories that weren't technically hers, but could have been. She and Will's lives were so closely entangled by now, sometimes she really wasn't sure which end was up. Which is why when she first opened her eyes and registered that the sounds she was hearing were waves crashing against the rocks, she wasn't immediately confused. Most nights she went to sleep on a pirate ship, she was used to going to sleep and waking up to the sound of waves crashing by now.

Then she realized what she was laying on wasn't her bed at all, but a blanket on a sandy beach, and that's when things started to get a little more confusing.

With a groggy groan, Sara squinted against the glaring sun light, attempting to prop herself up on her elbows and only partially managing it. Glaring sun light? With another look up at the sky she suddenly realized it was way past midday. Why the hell had she slept so late? She hadn't even drank anything the night before. She couldn't remember much of anything after posting to the boards and catching up with some old, more or less childhood friends. In fact, she didn't even remember going to sleep last night...

Her thoughts immediately took a sharp detour as realization set in, and then she looked down at herself. Fully naked and only covered by a thin blanket on top of her. "Ohhh fu-" There was another sound, the sound of a male voice mumbling in his sleep and she looked to her left. There was Peter Flynn in all his glory, sleeping soundly and just as clothes-less next to her. Sara started and flailed a little to the side with a sharp gasp as she yelled angrily at the voice in her head. "WILL!"

For the first time in a long time, Peter knew, even though he was far from conscious, that he was sleeping soundly. Usually his dreams were melancholy and somewhat tortured, causing him to wake up in a cold sweat by the end of the night, but now he was just... relaxed. Warm. Content, even. He hadn't felt like this in a long, long time. It was nice. If only he could stay like this forever...

But then a shout interrupted his slumber, and, without opening his eyes, he scrunched his face up in a petulant frown and rolled over on his side. It occurred to him that his mattress felt weird, like it was collapsing and reforming beneath him. Very weird. He'd have to get a new one. Once he managed to wake up. "Phnarl," he grumbled emphatically. "M'name's not Will. 'd sooner die."

... And then it hit him. Sara. Will. Elizabeth. The beach. Oh, god. The beach.

Peter's eyes flew open in terror, darting from the waves crashing on the beach to the thin blanket that was barely covering his bits and on over to Sara, who was far too close for comfort, and also completely naked. He let out a panicked shout and lurched backward, grabbing at the blanket and nearly wrenching it out of her hands in an attempt cover himself just a little more. Which meant that she was less covered. Oh, god. This was so bad. So bad.

"S-Sara? Oh, my g–" Peter choked on his words, barely able to breathe. "What the h – jesus! I was seven the last time I saw you! You were in pigtails!" He didn't know why, but he felt it was important he point that out. Hysterically, of course. Because this was so very not good. "Why, in God's name, why are we naked?!"

"HEY-" Sara protested when Peter, in his frenzied panic attack, nearly pulled the blanket clean off her. With a forceful yank back in her direction she managed to recover herself before she flashed him full frontal, though it came pretty close. Her cheeks actually flushed a little which was a miracle in and of itself, she never blushed. Then again, it wasn't often that she found herself lying naked next to a guy she'd known from the sandbox. Strangers, yes. This was a complete and utter disaster.

"What the hell do my pigtails have to do with it?!" Was the next fight she chose to pick, glaring over at Peter incredulously before she huffed loudly and rolled her eyes, brushing a piece of hair out of her face and trying to re-situate herself without completely de-robing. Peter was carrying on like a hysterical woman, there was no doubt in her mind now that he was the reincarnate of... Elizabeth. Oh god, Peter Flynn was the reincarnate of Elizabeth fucking Swann. For a moment Sara couldn't keep her jaw from dropping open as she gawked at him. Of all the people in the world.

After recovering, sort of, she managed to sit up straight and fix him with a withering stare. It only lasted for a split second before it softened into an almost amused grin as she surveyed the current state of herself and then him. "If you have to ask that question, Peter Flynn, you really haven't gotten any in awhile."

"Because!" Peter gave the blanket another yank, though she was hanging on so tightly to it now that really he only managed to pull himself back in her direction. "You used to have two of them, both of which I used to pull regularly! Now you have two.... other things whichIdon'treallywannathinkaboutbecauseIthinkImighthave – AUGH." Grimacing powerfully, Peter shut his eyes as tight as they would go, trying not to think about what probably happened between Will and Elizabeth once they'd taken over Sara and Peter's bodies respectively. The two of them were ridiculously predictable, at least as far as the consequences went. They simply did what they wanted in the name of "true love," consequences be damned. That was how Peter had gotten kicked out of the Navy, and now it was how he ended up sleeping with one of his best childhood friends. It wasn't fair. Fucking pirates.

With a groan, Peter shifted his position so that his head was in his hands and his elbows resting on his knees. He was still covered, but barely; there was a lot more open space between him and the blanket now, and he could feel the sea breeze in places he never really expected to. But even that wasn't enough to distract him from the complete catastrophe that was... this. Whatever this was. There couldn't possibly be a name for it.

He didn't see the look on her face when she made that last comment, but it only made him groan inwardly, closing his eyes in embarrassment. What she said was true, but that didn't mean he had to admit it. He'd been in a pit of self-loathing for a long time now, most of it Elizabeth's fault, and with self-loathing came self-isolation. He didn't socialize, didn't date, nothing. Since coming to the boards, he'd made two friends; once had since died, and the other wouldn't speak to him anymore. Not the greatest track record. Didn't really boost the self-esteem. But whatever had happened with Sara? That wasn't the way to fix it. If anything, he felt worse. That was a feat in and of itself.

"Do you think there's such a thing as mutual rape?" he finally mumbled, tone just as miserable as his body language. "Because I think we just invented it."

"Mutual rape?" Sara rolled her eyes and let out a laugh of disbelief, bring her knees up under the blanket so she could prop an elbow on one of them and rake a hand through her long hair. Laughing was really about the only way she knew how to cope with this sheer amount of awkward, which was more then she could say about Mr. Drama Queen to her left. With something between a grimace and a sneer, she glanced at him out of the corner of her eye as she scratched the back of her head. "Your flair for the dramatics suits each other."

She almost added a biting 'no wonder you're single' at the tail end of that but decided against it. Even if Peter was being remarkably immature for a guy that had just gotten lucky. Was he gay? With another casual side glance in his direction she sincerely hoped not. The guy had definitely grown and become man sized. If he wasn't being such a gigantic baby about all this, she might have said as much. As it were, all she wanted to do at this point in time was to find her clothes so this could be just the slightest bit less painfully awkward. That was all she asked.

Sara heaved a heavy sigh after another moment and dropped the hand in her hair to fall loosely at her side, finally taking a real look around at their surroundings and immediately noticing something... off. "Where the hell are our clothes?" With another frantic look around that might have given her whip lash, her fears were confirmed. Their clothes were nowhere to be seen. "Just for that, Will, I'm making you listen to Deathcab for the rest of the week," Sara snarled under her breath. Where she had been entirely amused just a few seconds ago, she was back to hating everything that was Will and Elizabeth Turner. Always had to fuck everything up, didn't they.

Upon the revelation that their clothes were gone, Peter gave up. He just gave up. At first, his head snapped up and he looked for them just as frantically as she did, but when it became very clear that there was nothing on the beach apart from them and a shitload of water, he let out another groan and flung himself back on the sand, hands gripping his head tightly, as if he could squeeze all the craziness out. Perfect. Just perfect.

"Somebody's going to see us. We'll be arrested. Charged with public indecency. They'll call my fa –" Peter didn't cut himself short so much as he simply couldn't finish his sentence. The prospect was horrifying. He hadn't tried to speak to his father since he'd told him, in no uncertain terms, that Peter was no son of his. If Peter's panicked worst case scenario came to pass and this was the first thing Commander Flynn heard about his only son in over a year... well, quite simply, Peter would rather die. Getting booted from the Navy was bad enough; his father would never forgive him for that, not ever. Becoming a common criminal wouldn't do him any favors, either. On the contrary, it would just prove that Peter was everything his father thought him to be: completely worthless. A failure. Well. Even if worst came to worst, at least they could agree on that.

Somehow, though, lying back down managed to stop his panic attack in its tracks. After a minute he calmed down, though his mind was still racing, going through every possible scenario in his head, each one of them worst than the last. "Ugh. This is a disaster." Merely stating a fact. Instead of alarmed now, he was just resigned, voice low and monotone. Whatever this was, there was no escaping it. "I'm so sorry, Sara. I think this was her idea, and I just... I'm so sorry. I'd make it up to you, but I'm sure you never want to see me again. Probably for the best. This is all my fault."

Sara was mostly content to just let him keep freaking out until he winded down, sighing to herself and going back to running fingers through her hair. It was the only thing that ever really calmed her down, something she vaguely remembered her mom doing when she was a kid. Now it was just a nervous habit she'd picked up when she was in her teens, but it did the trick. Sara just wasn't the type to ever lose her cool, not the way Will was prone to, and she was especially thankful for that now. If she and Peter were both freaking out about this, nothing would ever get solved. Sure their clothes were gone, but the situation could still be worse. Probably.

"What?" Sara's attention veered sharply back to Peter when he apologized to her and she looked over at him sideways, her face screwed up in confusion. "Don't be stupid, Peter. Even if this was her idea he was in on it too, so that doesn't make this your fault or mine."

He looked tortured, which made it even harder to joke about this so she just exhaled and tightened the blanket around her so it didn't fall off her as a gentle breeze blew over the sand around them. Then she very tentatively reached over and put her hand over his wrist, giving it a comforting squeeze as she tried to smile. "I can't say I thought this was how I was going to be seeing you after a million years but what makes you think I don't wanna see you?"

Peter's first instinct was to say, "Why would you?" – but for the first time in a long time, he decided to keep that thought to himself. For once, something was holding him back from pointing out just how pathetic he was. Maybe it was that hand on his wrist. He hadn't been expecting something like that. If anything, it gave him a little perspective. Sara was taking all this... pretty well, considering. Sure, this was awkward as hell, but she was still composed – comforting, even. Now that he realized it, it was actually kind of embarrassing. Peter Flynn really had no business being around people. Ever. He'd gotten really bad at it.

"I don't know," he shrugged into the sand, considerably calmer than before. He was even breathing normally now. Definite progress. "This doesn't really seem like the kind of... I mean, we don't even know what we did last night. Wouldn't it be easier to just... move on and forget this ever happened?"

Even as he said it, Peter knew that was impossible. It wasn't like Sara was a stranger; he knew her – knew her well enough that he recognized her instantly over the boards even though he hadn't seen her since they were kids. Not only that, but she was Will. As fateful and ironic as that was, staying in touch with her would be non-negotiable from now on. Elizabeth had been fairly unobtrusive since that first week when she'd singlehandedly ruined his life, but if there was one thing she was ever going to stand firm about, it would undoubtedly be Will. Now that she'd found him, she wouldn't lose him again. And even more than that: she wouldn't let Peter lose the one friend he had left. If she let him handle this his way, Sara would already be gone. On some level, both of them knew Elizabeth was in the right here; they simply... disagreed with her methods. Very suddenly, Peter sympathized wholeheartedly with every single man unfortunate enough to be a part of Elizabeth's life. She was too clever for all of them. No wonder they were all so crazy.

Giving his head a self-reflective shake, Peter rolled his eyes and shifted to a more relaxed position. He was basically sprawled out on the sand now, looking for all the world like he'd just collapsed after a long swim. In a way, he had. His life was quickly becoming just as unpredictable as the sea. "You know what? Forget I said anything. Just... yeah. Forget it."

Well, that seemed to do the trick. At least he wasn't breaking down into hysterics anymore, so Sara breathed a sincere sigh of relief as her posture sagged. Her lips pursed into her trade mark crooked smile as she leaned forward a little in an almost conspiratory fashion, knowing she wasn't really helping the situation any by doing that but he was already proving himself far too fun to mess with. "Judging by our currently very naked state, I'm pretty sure we did it. Own it, Pete, naive doesn't look good on you."

Then, as if she hadn't just said to her oldest of old childhood friends that they'd just had sex last night she laughed and flopped back down on her back onto the ground, making sure she was still mostly covered as she wriggled a dent into the sand to get comfortable. She could practically feel Will rolling his eyes in the back of her head but hey, he started this, she was just taking control of it now. This was totally his fault, his and Elizabeth's, but something told her they weren't too mad about it.

"Look, it's not a big deal. Look around you, we're in a secluded cove. Chances are no one's gonna come out here so all we gotta do is wait for it to get dark in a couple hours. Then we can use these blankets to find our clothes and get the hell out of here." She bunched her fists around the edges of the blanket against her chest and looked up at the sky as she talked, pausing for a moment before turning her head to the side and raising a delicate brow at him. "Would you rather we forgot about this?" Her tone was perfectly casual but if she was being honest with herself, she would have been a little hurt if Peter would rather choose to ignore her after this.

Peter couldn't help but laugh at that, even if he did blush a little. He wasn't a prude – far from it, in fact. Before Elizabeth came along, he had quite the reputation. A womanizer if there every was one. But she had come along, and she'd changed just about everything, up to and including how he treated women. She wasn't a prude either, but she didn't approve of his casual attitude toward love and sex, or the way he seemed to think that the two were mutually exclusive. Since Elizabeth's arrival, he hadn't had sex with a single girl. She wanted him to wait until he found someone who was right for both of them. Up until today, it had honestly never occurred to him that she was waiting for Will. Really, he was pretty lucky Will had turned out to be Sara. At least she wasn't an old man. That was definitely a plus.

"A couple hours?" Peter repeated, glancing over at her in disbelief. "What in the world are we going to do for a couple of..." Peter trailed off, a million and one answers to his unfinished question passing through his head. Most of them terrifying, or reminiscent of Will and Elizabeth's adventures the night before. Surprisingly, that only made him laugh again. "You know what, on second thought, never mind. They might get ideas." Another laugh. God, he was a regular clown now, wasn't he? How... weird. This was all very weird. At least he'd given up trying to make any sense out of everything. In the long run, definitely the right move for his sanity.

Her question caught him by surprise, though, and cut his laughter short. He peered over at her curiously, raising an eyebrow to unintentionally match hers. This was what he remembered about her. Sara had never been an shy kid, but her insecurities tended to show just when she was trying to hide them the hardest. It was a good thing he didn't feel the need to lie to her. The truth was exactly what she wanted to hear, and exactly what he felt. For Peter, that was something of a rarity, and for once, he intended to enjoy it while it lasted it.

Reaching one hand over to hers, he didn't quite make a move to hold it – still too soon for that – but he did touch his thumb to her forefinger and caressed it very gently. When he answered, he held her gaze unhesitantly. Funny how the truth made him so bold. "No. No, I don't think I would. You?"

It was funny, how much time could pass between two people and how quickly it came to feel like no time had passed at all. Granted, the last time they'd seen each other had been when they were both children, but still. In some ways Peter really hadn't changed at all and neither had she. Though in some other ways it was very clear they both had changed, and changed a lot. Definitely not in a bad way either. What she was seeing in front of her was the boy she'd grown up with and become a man.

She liked it. Actually, she liked him, which was a foreign notion in and of itself. Sara had never been the type to really get tied down, usually after a one-nighter she was quick to grab her clothes and get the hell out of dodge. Well, barring the fact that she couldn't grab her clothes right now even if she wanted to, when she met his gaze she had this gut feeling like she'd gladly stay put as long as he wanted her to. That was weird. She couldn't tell if that was Will or her or some mixture of the two, but she was content not to question it for now.

The way he looked at her made her feel even more naked then she already was but she found it impossible to look away, only biting her lip through a grin as she felt his thumb on her finger. She reciprocated, extending her middle finger to brush over his thumb before throwing caution to the wind and raising herself half up to lean over and plant a firm kiss to his lips. Yeah, she had definitely never been a shy kid. Always been the girl who went after what she wanted, and Peter had always been the boy with the nicest sandbox in her eyes.

"Good. I wouldn't either," she said as she leaned back on her elbow and propped her head up on her hand to flash him a knowing smile. They were Will and Elizabeth after all. Maybe this was fate's nice way of handing them something nice and prepackaged. She was willing to give it a shot.
