Who: Hades and Ma'at
What: Hades and Ma'at meet so he can show her his underworld.
Where: Woodlawn Cemetery
When: 11:30 am Sunday

He was still a mess when 11:30 rolled around but at least he didn't look it. Hades had difficulty, at times, controlling the amount of emotions that overwhelmed the Hayden part of the vessel but it was even harder when he felt those emotions too. The reunion with Persephone had been nothing short of heartbreaking but he had a job, not just at the morgue either. He had duties to the dead and he needed to share this part of it with someone who was claiming the same duties.

Ma'at wasn't the only one, he knew, but he hadn't felt quite as close to Pluto. So it was she he reached out to first and it was her he waited on now. He was standing in front of a random grave, arms folded and face voice of expression as he read the engraving.

"Fine," the kind of fine that meant he was not fine but it was clipped, short and sharp when he spoke it. He dropped his hands to his side when she hugged him then listlessly lifted one arm to curl around her before the other joined. Suddenly he was pulling her to him tight like he didn't want to let her go.

His eyes burned again and he cursed Hayden for these silly emotions.

She was quite used to his half hugs, the ones that seemed awkward and almost like they embarrassed him. It was nothing out of the usual until she found her herself crushed against his chest and then she was hugging him back. Her smile faltered and she was suddenly worried about him.

"What's wrong? Talk to me." She said, her voice soft as she wrapped her arms around his waist and looked up at him. "Did something happen?" She was completely confused by what she was sensing and how he was acting.

He refused to sob though and broke free from her completely as soon as she asked. He shook his head mutely and turned away from her, back of his hand drawn up against his mouth.

"You want to go there? I'll open the door, just follow me in," his voice was thick and scratchy, husky like he had been screaming. Hades crouched down like he had for Cronus, Index and middle finger held out as he used them to trace the outlines of an invisible door from ground up. As he did so the air seemed to thicken and an invisible portal opened up, darkening in the area he traced out with his hand.

"Come in," he stepped through. It was a large, mostly dark, cavern that seemed to be vaguely be the size of two football fields. There, not only fifty yards away, was there a pit that went down infinitely and it was filled with souls swirling around it aimless. Behind them, after the portal closed, in the distance was a bright light as if it was a cavern opening to some sort of field... and further, beyond the pit it was black and where it led he did not know. There were candles that lit the entire place all over the walls and two black, ornate chairs ten feet away from them.

Lucia let go but only for a little bit, she would get around to figuring it out. Hades was her friend, one of her only true friends and she wasn't going to see him hurting whether he liked to admit it or not.

She was nearly bouncing as she watched him open the door. The air thickened and her heart was pounding in anticipation. "Ohhh.." She reached out and grabbed the back of his shirt, following him into the dark cavernous area.

Most people would panic, the door closed behind them and she looked back. It was elation, her soul felt like flying as she walked into the dark. She had no fear only mind numbing joy as she closed her eyes and inhaled deeply. It was not her Underworld, not where she was used to going but it had the same feel. She was speechless as she moved ahead of him, trying to look at everything around her. She spun around and stared at Hades. "This is.. amazing, beautiful." Suddenly she didn't care about anything else. She looked up at him.

He sat in one of the chairs and stared moodily toward the pit of purgatory and despair. A hand was lifted to gesture to it.

"For the souls who don't deserve it," and then he gestured to the light in the distance behind her.

"The fields for those who do. It virtually looks like Central Park. Hayden's imagination melds with mine, there are some aspects of the old Elysian Fields but for now, it is what it is."

He looked exhausted, even more so when he propped his cheek up against his palm.

Ma'at spun around for a minute, eyes closed and just inhaled the way the air felt. She stopped and crossed the area toward Hades. She stopped in front of him and dropped to the ground in front of the ornate chair where he sat. She reached out to him and tugged on his arm, leaning forward until she was close enough that he couldn't ignore her.

"Hades. Tell me. There is nothing that we can't fix, what's wrong?" She reached for his hand, kneeling in front of him. She wanted him to talk to her, whatever it was it was serious.

"I found her," he whispered, allowing his hand to be drawn into her grasp. She was warm, like Juniper had been, but she didn't give off that impossibly intoxicating scent of a thousand wildflower in bloom. Ma'at smelled like spice and the desert to him. She smelled exotic.

He kept his gaze averted but made a grimace as he tried to hold back whatever emotions he was processing.

"And I let her go."

"You did?!" Her gaze lifted, a small smile that was quickly dashed by his averted gaze and his tone. "Hades." Ma'at spoke softly, asking him to look at her. "Emotions are not a mortal entrapment, we feel them just like they do. It is not weak to show those emotions. It does not make you any less in my eyes to show that you feel something. It makes you more."

She squeezed his hand lightly and smoothed her thumb along his. "Tell me. What do you mean you let her go? Did she remember you? Did she want you to let her go?" She wanted to hug him again, damn his wife for not understanding what she had. Everyday she wished for what he was giving Persephone. Love, undying and unconditional. Monogamy.

"I told her who I was and proved it, drew her out of the vessel and.. and then I told her she was no longer bound to me and free to go. Free to see her mother and enjoy spring and winter how she wanted and.. she kept saying I was leaving her, then I kissed her and she kissed me and then Juniper pushed back to the front and.. and..." he hated these emotions. He felt like a silly child, just a little boy who found out Santa wasn't real or something.

Hayden snatched his and back and stood up, stepping around her so he could pace.

"It doesn't matter, Juniper hates me and what I am, I am sure of it. This is for her, I did it for her!"

Ma'at moved to sit on the edge of his chair that he had just vacated. It felt wrong to sit there but she did it anyway. She watched him pace in the semi darkness of the cavern. "Hades." Her tone was calming. "Is she kept saying you were leaving her.. Maybe she wanted you to stay?"

She gave him a few minutes, a few minutes to think before she eased off of the chair to move toward him. "Are you sure this is what you need to do? Maybe.." She reached out for him but hesitated enough that he could evade her touch if he wanted. "Maybe this vessel, maybe this Persephone will love you back? Maybe she is alone and scared and you are her husband." Her heart ached for him.

He allowed her touch, which was the one comfort he had at that moment. There was something about Ma'at and Lucia that the god and vessel liked enough to feel comfortable, even when they were at their worst. Her words sank in sure enough but he wouldn't budge from what he thought was right, if not heartbreaking.

"She only wanted it because... because she may not have known she could find others now. Once she finds her mother, she would want me no longer. I am not holding my breath for her love, and I love her too much to force her to stay with me."

Hades turned to Ma'at, eyes glistening with tears that refused to fall. He gripped her hand tight.

"I should have never stolen her away."

Ma'at held onto his hand and took a step toward him at the look in his eyes. She reached a hand up to his cheek and smoothed a hand over his skin. "You did what you thought would keep her with you. You made a mistake, you need to give her time to remember." Ma'at met his gaze and her heart went out to him. He was a noble and proud man who adored his wife. He was letting her go to please her. Ma'at was insanely jealous of the devotion Persephone had from her husband.

"Listen to me. It's not the end. If she is as good as you say, she will come back. How can she stay away?" Ma'at decided that she was going to talk to this Juniper and get to the bottom of what was hurting her friend. Ma'at was basically cooing to him, her tone was gentle as she stroked her thumb along his cheek. "She is a fool." She said it softly and squeezed his hand tight. She was definitely going to help him figure out his relationship.

Hades did not shy from her touch but it was difficult to maintain composure when she touched him in that way. He couldn't remember the last time a female did caress him like that. The Baron had been kind but the Baron meant it only to awaken within Hades a new passion... and he had acted out of passion when he spoke to Persephone.

"She is not a fool," he whispered, drawing her hand down from his cheek. "She has never been happy with me, my love has always been toxic and selfish."

He would not argue this any further. Hades drew away from her and turned, gestured into the distance where the cavern extended for what seemed forever.

"I think you may come here anytime you wish but this realm seems to spread out like it had before in our world. At first, I entered by opening a closet and finding it extended into this realm. And then I realized it was by using my power to open up portals as we used to in order to travel from the mortal realms to our godly ones."
