While the rest of the world around her was bundled up in heavy coats and scarves and hats, America kept her denim jacket unbuttoned as she weaved through the crowd of people in the streets. A crowd of people that seemed much bigger in number, and she found herself shuffling awkwardly rather than actually walking. Ugh. This was why she normally kicked portals everywhere. And she probably could have gotten wherever she wanted to sooner but, no. Today, she had decided to walk. Though, really, in order to kick her way around, she’d need to know a specific destination and today, she had none of that in mind. Walking around, she’d found herself at the Bryant Park holiday shop, looked around for something interesting, came up empty-handed and had decided to walk around to the front of the New York library. When there was finally an opening in that narrow passageway down the sidewalk to the front of the library, America hopped through it and towards the steps. She could have opened a portal to go back home but with the crowd this big, she didn’t want to have anyone step inside her apartment with her. “Hey,” she said, approaching a familiar blond sitting at the steps. “This seat next to you taken?” |
