[Alana Bloom]
So it’s Tuesday,
We had an Avengers meeting last night. It was about the emergence of all these individuals all over the place with powers. I’m still wondering if it’s not just a temporary thing, I mean, stuff like this has been temporary in the past, even if it hasn’t been as far reaching. Maybe the Tesseract is playing at something new. I mean, it’s capable of bending and reshaping reality, possibly of making things real that aren’t -- but this -- if these changes are permanent, they worry me because we’re not equipped. We’re just not equipped.
There is no way that militaries globally are going to move in on this, that governments are going to make their own decisions, and while maybe the Avengers have some influence here, maybe they can help people to some degree here -- our association with SHIELD hasn’t been forgotten, and it’s still pretty fresh in everyone’s mind that SHIELD was the Black Lagoon and HYDRA the Nazi Death Cult Creature lurking in it’s depths.
But I don’t want these people to have to suffer for mistakes thatmy fatherSHIELD made, I don’t want them to have no where to turn that isn’t scary, and I don’t want them to think that we -- the Avengers, the Network of Refugees, that any of us are going to want something besides to help them.
Which, I mean, which gets me thinking. I’ve had this idea to build a new Center, a rehabilitation centre, you know? With low-income apartments. I thought refugees to be involved with the build and organisation -- try and get them out in public in ways that weren’t responses to protests -- but giving back to the community in ways that it gave to them -- even though, I mean -- even though it was less the community that gave the refugees anything and more “me”, I really believe in, I guess paying it forward? Which is a terrible movie, by the way.
The refugees -- you -- it’s pretty clear at this point aren’t temporary. Potts Tower has been operating since 2012 and like, not a lot has changed. Refugees have been SHIELD agents, Avengers, small business owners -- they’ve helped people out more times than I think anyone realises but they haven’t been doing it in ways that we can point to -- in ways that say these people care because of the way that SHIELD and, well, superheroes operate I guess.
But if we build this, if we showcase the refugees and maybe even some of their... abilities... it might not only help boost the refugee approval rating and be good PR, but it might also help these people -- these people who are waking up with new abilities every day -- seek us out. It might be the first step in showing those people -- indirectly -- that we’re the safe place I want us to be.

Does that make me a good person though? I mean, does building a rehabilitation centre to help the people of this city, but doing it for reasons other than “there aren’t enough places in this city for people to get the care they need” make me an asshole? Does spinning charity into good public relationships make me some kind of soulless kretin?
If people are helped, does it even matter that I’m a soulless kretin?
