Who: Harry Osborn & Tony Stark (MCU)
When: Tuesday, August 19
What: The police have reason to believe that Harry and his board were directly responsible for the illegal purchase and staged theft of weapons grade plutonium. They have taken him in for “questioning.” Harry calls the only person he knows who has relevant skills and probably didn’t assist in the effort frame him.
[ After being told that he can come in voluntarily or they can “do this the hard way,” a shaking Harry Osborn reluctantly agrees, but insists that he has to make a call first. Presumably because Harry is not under arrest, and the officer doesn’t want to take on the Osborn army of lawyers in a probable cause hearing without assembling the evidence, he allows it with an admonition to “make it quick.” There’s a moment of hesitation as Harry decides which number to dial. But he quickly locates Tony Stark on his favorites list, and raises the phone to his ear. It probably only rings for a few seconds, but it feels like an hour. He’s shaking, and you can hear the tremor in his voice. ] Tony? [The second that Stark heard Harry’s voice, he pulled up a screen, pressed a button and put a piece in his ear. I didn’t matter that the only other person in his lab was Bruce, this was obviously a conversation that was meant to be private. He shrugged off the concerned glance that Banner shot him and turned to face away from Bruce as he turned his attention to the call. He really didn’t want to be too concerned, certainly not right away. But Harry wasn’t one to call, and he knew there were just too many things that could go all too wrong for someone in Osborn’s position.] Hey, Hey, Harry. What’s going on? I don't— [ Harry, aware that there are several people in his immediate vicinity who might be listening to this phone call, lowers his voice, and takes an unsteady breath. ] The, uh-- the police just showed up at uh-- at my, um, where I live. They think this whole -- the thing with the plutonium, they think it was me. [ Deep breath. ] They’re taking me to the station. With them. I don't know what to do. [While Tony wasn’t completely surprised that the plutonium heist was catching up to Harry, given what he knew already, but the fact that they’d just walked right in to see Harry Osborn meant that the police department might have already beaten him to finding out exactly what was going on at OsCorp. Already, they knew that the company didn’t need and wasn’t registered to carry or purchase plutonium and that was a problem, but Tony knew that Harry didn’t have anything to do with it and he couldn’t quite understand why anyone would.] Okay. Don’t... don’t freak out. [The more Tony thought about it, the more he realised that honestly, there was no way that they could have gotten all the warrants necessary to find clear evidence of Osborn’s involvement. They had to have moved in response to some sort of tip off or proof that was handed over, which to Stark, meant that there was a good chance Harry might have been set up. But there was nothing he could do for him unless he could prove it.] Call your lawyer, have them meet you at the station. But -- But I’m going to take care of this, you know? You’re going to be fine, okay? Just -- I’ll fix it. [He didn’t know how, he certainly didn’t know what he was going to do, but Harry had been let down so many times by so many people that he’d depended on, there was just no way that he couldn’t do this for him.] I promise. Okay. Okay, thank you. I'm just-- I'm sorry. I'm sorry about all of this. But there's nobody I-- I didn't know who else to call. [ Breathless, possibly a whisper ] Maybe this is how they're trying to force me out. [ Harry swears under his breath. ] Can you-- this is weird, but I think they're going to get pissy if I keep making phone calls. Just, because you know him. Can you maybe tell Peter what's going on? I think that would maybe be better than... seeing it on the news, or anything. [Stark pinched the bridge of his nose. It made sense. It seemed pretty drastic to pin something like plutonium smuggling on the shoulders of anyone was pretty ridiculous, but to drop that on the shoulders of a kid was beyond despicable] Don’t you worry about that, I’ll make sure Peter knows. [He glanced over his shoulder at Bruce, who was obviously listening in on Stark’s half of the conversation and growing more and more concerned.] And I mean it when I say this is going to be okay. I’m not going to let anyone screw you like this. [ The gravity of the situation was such that Harry didn't even think to turn that into something sexual. Instead, he took another deep breath and nodded, not immediately considering that this would not be a reaction that Tony could observe. ] Okay. I'll call the the, uh— the guy at Paul Weiss. [ He knew Tony didn't owe him anything, much less his legal help. And he couldn't quite get a grasp on why Tony was so willing to go out of his way for him after he'd all but told Harry not to trust him. But he needed it. He needed it, so he decided not to look a gift horse in the mouth. ] I-- thank you. Really, thank you. [Tony shut his eyes, and wished for a second that he could go down to the police station and see Harry. To be there for him just for a few minutes so he knew he wasn’t alone, but he knew his time would be better spent elsewhere] You owe me one. |
